I took my 2010 Jetta tdi in to have the ecm reprogrammed per the notice I received from volkswagon that said the egr might not be read properly. The next day my check engine light came on. I called the dealership and today I had them look at it. They are advising me that my diesel particulate filter is cracked and has been for a while and needs to be replaced. The light only came on after the reprogramming. Volkswagon knew about an issue with the ecm and now I am stuck paying almost $2000. 00 to get it fixed. There are a lot of other people having the same issue.
Car is throwing p0401 fault code for egr valve insufficient flow. Dealer states the diesel particulate filter is cracked. According to data, vw's emissions scandal shows 40% more pollutants spewing into air. This is causing excess emission part failures. Dealer wants $2500+ for repairs. According to vw forums, there are many cases of egr and dpf failures. Contacted vw and they will not assist. My car is due for smog 10/22/2015 and is not passing.
My car keeps throwing a p0401 code egr insufficient flow. The dealer told me its might be a cracked dpf filter. After looking on vw forums about the problem its going to be around a $3000 fix. Since the car is not a "clean diesel" as advertised the system is getting clogged due to the fact the car computer fake software.
While driving home from work, about 30 minutes into a 40 minute drive, driving about 30 mph, in 16 degree f weather, my vehicle, a diesel with a 6 speed manual transmission suddenly stalled. I was able to engage the clutch, go to a lower gear, release the clutch and re-start the engine. With the engine bucking and hesitating, I was able to drive the rest of the way home. The next morning, the vehicle would not start. I had it towed to a vw repair shop where they found a completely blocked intercooler, full of ice. Doing some research, I have found that vw has a TSB to correct intercooler icing, which involves replacing the original factory unit with a new intercooler design. As I looked on vw forums, I found that many drivers have had similar unpredictable failure due to intercooler icing. When I requested vw correct this design flaw at their expense, they refused, claiming the vehicle is off warranty. I would like NHTSA to look into this, as I feel vw needs to either make a safety recall, or correct the problem on any car on which it occurs. This problem strikes me as similar to the recent gm ignition key failure issue. Thank you for your consideration.
At 60,000 miles we noticed a decrease in acceleration and gas mileage in 2010, vw Jetta tdi. The dealer said they fixed the issues, but we only saw a slight improvement in the vehicles performance. In between the 60,000 miles and now 113,000 the car has been diagnosed to have the egr valve, dpf filter, all sensors,. Nox and sox burners to be replaced at a total cost of $10,000 dollars. When we purchased the vehicle the dealership said that the dpf filter would only cost us $1000 dollars to replace, try $4000 just for it. We have taken very good care of the care and feel that vw has misrepresented themselves in the vaule of the vehicle and the upfront repairs. The radio, all doors actuators and trans have been repaired on this car. It has been a money pit.
The car abruptly decelerated from 65 to 35 mph on a major interstate as the engine went into 'limp mode'. The sudden deceleration caused swerving and I had to pull over to the curb in order to avoid an accident. The coil/check engine light turned on and car hesitated as it drove. This is the third incident that this car has had with the exhaust problem causing engine to force deceleration and abrupt stopping even stalling. The system this time diagnosed a defective exhaust control module/flap. The previous emissions issue while the car was under warranty involved defective egr valves. Problem seems to show up every 10-15k miles on this diesel model.
Egr valve: check engine light came on, code p0401 for egr valve. Dealer said they tested it and it was "sticking". Not covered under emissions warranty. Failed at 45k miles. Vw part number is 03l-131-501-k. $700 repair.
This vehicle has experienced continual problems with engine shuddering and stalling. Mostly, while in 2nd , 3rd or 4th gear, early on into a trip the engine will suddenly decelerate and in some case stall out completely. It is as if there is a sudden loss in fuel getting to the engine. This started soon after purchasing the car. It has been into the dealership numerous (6 or 7) times for this warranty issue, including extended stay periods of seven and ten days. First they faulted my fuel, then they replaced the fuel pump, then they have done other work and replaced components, but claim they can not make the car fail as I have reported. They claim to have alerted vw and had a vw technical advisers look at this car. They refuse to do any additional warranty work on the car for this issue since they can not diagnose it. I have kept a log of these failures since my last servicing. Between 10/22/2010 to 3/12/2011 this vehicle has had 19 of these failure events. They usually occur when the outside air temperature is above 32 degrees fahrenheit. The vehicle is still under warranty (28,500 miles on the odometer). I am finding other owners experiencing similar problems. Please help.
My vw Jetta tdi stalled while coming to a stop sign after the clutch was depressed. It did this occasionally during the first year of ownership. After a year of ownership and a dozen or so incidents, the car started to stall multiple times during a one half-hour commute. Twice recently, once on my way to work and once on my way back, the car stalled two and three times respectively. It even stalled on the highway going 65 mph when the clutch was depressed. Usually, it stalls when coming to a red light or stop sign when the clutch is depressed in order to take the car out of gear. At 12000 miles, the engine light came on and off a few times and then remained on. The diesel particulate filter and egr valve were replaced which is highly unusual for a car with such low mileage. Also, after my 20000 mile service the engine light went on again and the dealer replaced the #4 exhaust gas temperature sensor. Before the 20k service I had called the dealer the day I stalled 3 times and reported my engine light went on. I went to the dealer a few days later, Thursday, for the service and the light had gone out by then. The dealer said there was a software update for the ecm to be done in addition to the regular service. I left the dealer after the 20k service only to have my engine light go on again and the car stall again. So I went back to the dealer and that is when they changed the #4 exhaust gas temperature sensor. It did not sound to me like a proper fix for this problem as I believe it could be either an electronic glitch with the ecm or other electrical components or some fuel system problem whereby fuel flow is interrupted when going from load to no load scenarios, I. E. Clutch engaged. Anyhow, I stalled again two miles from the dealer from which I had driven. The dealer says they can't duplicate it or find any codes related to it. They will call vw again.
