I am unable to open the gas filler flap to fill my gas tank with gas. The filler flap usually opens using the central locking system in car or the key pod. Neither activates the filler flap now. This is a serious safety issue which Volkswagen does not have a solution for.
Incident occurred when approaching an intersection. Engine died as if the car ran out of fuel. Tried to restart the car but the car would not turnover. It would only crank. Acted like it ran out of fuel but there was half a tank of fuel.
Pulled away from stop sign into traffic. Engine quit as if fuel was cut off. Coasted to side of roadway. Car would not restart though it did crank. About a third of a tank of fuel, 80k service was two weeks ago. Car had to be towed to shop.
Vehicle stopped running after an audible ding, and a check engine message appeared on the dashboard display. Was able to restart with difficulty and proceeded about one block when the vehicle running stopped again. Vehicle could not be restarted and was pushed into a service station nearby. An attendant checked the vehicle computer and found low fuel pressure. We were then towed to a vw dealer. Dealer claims there is gasoline in the fuel tank. We have 4 months of fueling receipts showing diesel pump was used, last one two weeks prior to incident. The fuel tank at time of incident was at 1/4. Prior to the incident, there were no symptoms of performance problems.
My wife was trying to merge onto a busy highway and the motor died. She was able to coast to the breakdown lane. I feel this could have been a deadly had it happened in front of a loaded gasoline tanker truck or someplace where there was no breakdown lane or in the high speed lane. This should be a safety recall that vw should take seriously.
The vehicle stalled in traffic. The vehicle would not restart. It had to be towed to a vw dealer. The vw dealer told me the pump disintegrated and sent metal fines through the fuel rail clogging the fuel injectors. The dealer claims it was due to the diesel fuel being contaminated. I have documentation that only diesel fuel was in the tank (fuel receipts). The dealer did not do a lab analysis on my fuel. They said it didn't smell right.
