Car shut off while turning left. Display says check starting system. Car restarted.
While driving the please “check starter system” error and “ignition switch error” popped up and the dashboard died , ac died, no brake lights, no speedometer but the car kept running. There is no check engine light. I live in texas where temperature is 105+ which could be the reason. This only happens if my car is sitting in the sun for hours, verses me driving it in the morning and then throughout the day. This is dangerous because I was on a busy highway, and should be a recall.
My vw Jetta 2019 car just stopped twice with “check starter system” error and failed to turn on right in the middle of the road which might have lead to some serious accident. Once on a light the steering and brakes both got locked and all the electrics (dash, radio etc) shut off and so had to somehow safely get on the side of the road and had to use the handbrake abruptly to stop the car which was a difficult situation. Tried turning on the engine again but it kept on giving me “check ignition” switch and “starter system” errors and all the electrical parts turned off including the engine. It could have been a fatal accident and calls for serious service negligence on vw part. I see so many complaints in different forums for the same ignition switch and electrical failure on 2019 vw Jetta models but never a recall from vw to fix the issue. That’s a big lapse in safety issue and Volkswagen should be sued for neglecting such life threatening damages which might lead to severe consequences like a fatal accident if car stops with no proper warning beforehand.
My car started fine, but turned off in the middle of my drive. I live in las vegas, nv so the extreme heat and a faulty car is very dangerous. There has been many issues with the ignition switch on the 2019 Jettas. Unfortunately the switch is on backorder.
Left my work parking lot and my Jetta said there was an ignition problem and “starter system failure”. Then all electronics systems went dark but the engine kept running, until I came to a stoplight and stopped. I pulled over and turned it off. Then restarted. This is very dangerous.
As I was driving the vehicle the car just randomly shut off. It turned off the air conditioning and wiper blades as it was raining. It said to check starter system or ignition system or something like that. I recently had the software update recall done at the dealer also had a new battery installed by the dealer between two days. Also said something about checking the key battery. It has happened on two separate occasions this week alone.
Only on days where I leave my car in the direct heat under the sun for a few hours I go to get in and start and it starts up at first and then the dashboard displays "check starter system" soon after all the electrical work in the car shuts down and doesn't turn on again until the car cools down or when the sun goes down. I live in phoenix where it's hot everyday so this issue is happening frequently with my vehicle.
When interior gets hot, check starter system message displays and all gauges, air conditioning system, infotainment system and all associated systems become inoperable. This becomes especially dangerous as it will happen while driving.
A minute after starting my car sitting in a hot parking lot, the entire car and engine shut off. A message popped up saying “please check starter system”. I looked this up and seems to be an extremely common issues with 2019 Jettas, and everyone has had issues with getting it fixed. Mechanics have said there’s “no issue” with the car because it won’t shut off every time. Some even had their cars shut off on the highway. My car has about 25,000 miles and is in great shape. I’m terrified to drive it for safety reasons, and I don’t have money to take it in anywhere. I’m so disappointed there has not been a recall on this common, extremely dangerous issue. There were no prior warning lights or signs.
Car stalled and turned off after a red light turned green and pressed on the gas pedal. Error message popped error: start-stop system. The red triangle with exclamation point symbol appeared. The check engine light has been on since. I had to immediately put my hazard lights on, put the car in park, press the start button to turn on again. It happened again immediately afterwards when the red light turned green again. Thankfully I was able to pull over safely. Will be sending the car to vw dealership tomorrow to be serviced to diagnose issue.
The purge valve and hose assembly for the evap system has failed and is leaking gas fumes into the cabin.
The contact owns a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power with an unknown warning light illuminated and an unknown message displayed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.
Jan 2023-check engine light for oil came on-just had oil change November 21, 2022 and only went 3000 miles. No oil in engine so it was topped off at a local volkswagon satellite and inspected for leaks no leaks found. Mid Feb 2023 had to put 2 quarts oil in car and high pitch noise/humming coming from car when driving. Mar 2023 went to vw dealership and explained noise and oil. They said noise was bad wheel bearings and it was ok to drive until backorder came in to replace. Was told the oil consumption is normal for vw despite us telling them it’s not normal consumption and they told us to read the owners manual. They couldn’t find leak, they topped it off and sent us on our way. April, may 2023 humming noise louder and a creaky, clanking, cricket chirp noise began and gear shifting became delayed. Made an appoint with vw dealership for June 2023 for wheel bearings to be replaced and told them about oil (we had to put 2 quarts in June)and new noise, and shifting. Wheel bearings are replaced, noise continued and they replaced front axle, different noise continued and now they are replacing transmission. They said they were going to prep car for oil consumption test but do not have my car back from the shop to drive it to determine the cause. Called sales to get quote on extended warranty as mine is about to expire in about 8000 miles. I was “told it is not an inexpensive car to warranty and was quoted $5749. 00 for a 4 yr 60k warranty (it’s in an email I have) my worry is “what else is going to break or even possibly hurt or kill my daughter”. This was her graduation present to get her through college and on her feet with a job. She attended undergrad out of state and now attending her graduate school out of state. 97% of her miles 62-64k are highway miles. She has kept up with all service requirements for her vehicle and has never been in an accident (carfax). All her records are in her car and can upload once we get her car back. Car is at sheehey vw.
Vehicle caught fire while putting car in reverse. Car exploded from engine, no check engine light. I could have died, the fire almost burned down a building. The fire department was called and the front of the car was melted. My arm was injured and I had to get a new cast for my broken wrist. Car was towed by city officials as a hazard.
I was driving on a active snowing highway at 7pm when an alert appeared on the dashboard to “check starter system” and “pull vehicle over…”. During this time im on the highway going about 6mph and everything electrical turned off including my headlights and windshield wipers turned off. I was able to activate my hazards and pull off the highway but due to the snow and everything electrical cutting off my windows fogged up and almost caused me to crash into a semi-truck. I have googled this issue and it seems to be very common for this specific vehicle.
I bought the car October 1 2022 around October 15th it shut off without and warning while crossing over a intersection on November 19th I was on i95 north and it shut off again with no warning I got to the side of the highway and it started I got about a mile up the highway and it shut off a 3rd time this time it said error stop/start.
When going fast real quick the car start to smell like something is burning. My right light isn’t working right.
The vehicle steering has been off and alignment when driving. My gas gauge has been off constantly, since I've owned the vehicle. I documented this many times and reported this to the dealership under warranty and Volkswagen care.
On Jun 4, while driving on southwards on hw17 the steering became unresponsive. Eventually, the car, with four passengers, hit the curb. The vehicle is yet to be inspected by dealership, vw representative or repair shop person. I plan to take the car to repair shop, when they open on Monday, Jun 6. The car engine malfunction light had turned on.
Had a 2019 Jetta 1. 4 turbo and kept hearing the same grinding noise over and over that everyone says. I couldn’t determine if it was coming from the transmission or torque converter or something else. I took it to the vw dealership twice and both times they claimed they couldn’t hear anything and kept my car all day long without calling me or anything. They also said it was normal. I know quite a bit about cars and that’s not normal. It’s kinda like the dealership didn’t want to help. They kept saying it’s still under warranty, so we are documenting it. Ok, I get that, but that’s not helping me at all. They are not worried about it because it’s not their car. Got to the point I finally got fed up with it and sold it. I traded a perfectly good car in to have a newer one only to have problems. It’s gone now of course, but I will never get my other perfectly good car back. Not pleased with Volkswagen and will never buy another one.
Car started making a weird noise after service. It sounded like a tractor trailer idling next to me. Brought the car up to the dealership and determined it was due to a faulty engine. Luckily I didn’t avoid the sound since there was metal shavings in my oil pan which could have caused a complete engine failure. Car only had 27k miles on at the time.
Issue: 2019 vw Jetta, the problem first occurred at 46,000 miles and has occurred approximately 8 times while in operation both when at a full stop and in motion at speeds from 10 to 50mph. When this happens all electronics shut off, dashboard goes blank, to include turn signals, side and front warning indicators, head lights and brake lights. This appears to happen in elevated outside temperatures. The vehicle will still drive, however without any electronics, lights etc. Vehicle starts up again with full electronics after stopping and restarting engine, usually takes two or three attempts. This has put my safety and drivers around me at risk of accident. I took the vehicle to the vw dealership, they did not observe the problem to my knowledge but said diagnostics indicated the original battery was malfunctioning and needed replacement, which I had done, not by vw. After battery replacement and recoding of electronics according to vw specifications, same issue occurred again two days later. Dashboard warning message, “please check starter system” appears when this failure happens. Also states pull over immediately and address problem. Research online indicates this is a common problem in vw’s and appears to be an electrical switch problem. See attached vw dealership docs.
The hill start assist is dangerous. Unlike most hill start assists, the one in this car doesn’t let go when you release the clutch, it waits about 2-3 seconds every time. I’ve had several incidents with this but just recently I was starting on a not very steep hill and forgot about the fact I have to compensate for this system, and tried to start normally and stalled. Thankfully the person behind me was my friend and was paying attention, but people don’t usually expect a car to sit there not moving once the brake lights go off, and then shudder to a stop because it has just stalled, and is possible for rear end collisions, as well as other more dangerous ones to happen depending on the situation. The system is working as designed; I’ve heard many complaints from other people that theirs does the same thing. It is dangerous as it doesn’t let you move for 2-3 seconds even if you really need to in an emergency situation.
Whenever the outside temperature reached 85 degrees fahrenheit or higher, all computer systems and electrical functions would shut off. If I was driving at the time, the engine would continue to run, but I wouldn't be able to use even the most basic functions -- blinkers, hazard lights, radio, air conditioning -- and all the gauges on the dashboard -- speedometer, gas gauge, etc. -- would stop working, creating a dangerous driving experience. If the car was already parked, or I came to a stop, the ignition would flutter and then shut off as soon as it was put into gear. And only start working again after the car had cooled down, oftentimes by having to dump cold water on the vehicle, or by parking it in the shade for an extended period of time.
Bought car new March 2020. Back cover of driver side mirror came off in April 2020. January 15, 2021 while driving on interstate at 70 mph. The car began to jerk and sputter. Every attempt to accelerate would cause the car to jerk more. After exiting the interstate I was able to drive 25 mph to nearest dealership. I was told cylinder 1 was dead and others are misfiring. I have since been told that something broke off and was sucked into cylinder 1 damaging cylinder 1. I have been waiting for a new engine since January. I have been repeatedly told it is on back order with no eta. It is now 2/22/21.
I have a 2019 vw Jetta gli bought new from vw dealer. When you first start the car in the morning or after its been sitting, basically cold, it idles very rough. The whole car vibrates and shakes. After the car warms up this goes away. The ride of the car feels like there is no suspension. You feel every bump in the road. I have never gotten motion sick from a vehicle while driving. This car gives me motion sickness every time I drive it. I have had others drive the car and report the say thing. I have had passengers in the car and they can't believe how hard the ride is. I have tried all the modes eco, normal, sport and they all have a horrible ride quality. The worst thing is I was driving the car home after work and while sitting at a red light the a/c stopped blowing cold air. After coming off the red light I started smelling fuel coming from the a/c system. The a/c system was on max a/c with the recirc on, so was not on fresh air. Pulled over, opened the hood and saw fire coming from between the engine and firewall on the passenger side. I dropped the hood and the fire ball shot out the side passenger side right behind the passenger front tire. The side and under carriage of the car was on fire and is burnt up. I contacted the dealer they said to drive it in and they will take a look at it. Drive it in???? after it was on fire???.
Factory defect.
The contact owns a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the turbo was making an abnormal loud mechanical grinding sound. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken three times to the local dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle was working as designed. Additionally, the contact was informed that the wastegate turbo had a lot of play and the wind was causing the abnormal sound. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 600.
Bought 2019 Jetta in sept. 2018. Jetta se, habanero orange. Currently has 39,500 miles on it. Had been complaining to the service department ever since my first oil change (roughly 5000 miles). I change the oil every 5000, and every time I asked about it, they refused to acknowledge the issue. No recall. However, at 39,000 miles my car began "hard-shifting" and would get stuck/locked in gear at slow traffic speeds (20-40mph). It would then slam into gear, and I would continue on my way. Took the car into Volkswagen, requested to see the foreman to replicate my issue. Talked to vw customer care in order to open a case. Replicated the issue with the foreman, and they took my car for inspection and repair. They found as follows: - burnt transmission fluid - metal shavings in the transmission fluid - metal shavings in the oil - metal shavings in the oil cooler. Car felt very unsafe for regular use. Car would not drive correctly. Being stuck in gear requires me to pull the vehicle over during freeway driving. Would not allow me to accelerate correctly. Happened during slow speeds, roughly 25-40mph, also, while speeding up to roughly 60mph.
I took a car brand new 2019 after 5k miles light on display please check oil level I went dealership and they told me when you lights its on stop here and we fuel it quarter oil. . . So now I see dealership every 5 k mile and every 10k mile when I change oil. . . No body care this is disrespect for costumer never buy Volkswagen.
The vehicle has a high pitched whine coming from the engine area under acceleration. Dealer can not find issue and fix. Vw has sent engineer out twice so far.
Low level oil it has problem with oil vw cannot fixes.
I was waiting for a parking space and was placing the car in reverse to give more room for the person to back up and the car would not move. I put the car in drive and again the car would not move. I placed the car in park then back in reverse and the car would not move. I again put the car in park, turned the engine off, restarted the car put the car in reverse and the car went in reverse. . This happened to me twice. The other incident was I was reversing out of a parking spot and the vehicle brakes jammed on. . I checked for vehicles/people prior to backing up and there were no vehicles/pedestrians present but the brakes engaged anyway. The second time this occurred I was traveling at 40 mph and the brakes jammed on again for no apparent reason. I called the dealership and they said they had heard about this "phantom" braking" but didn't know why and as far as the vehicle not moving, just shutting down they said that they received an email saying that there is an issue with the computer chip and I am still waiting to hear the outcome.
I purchased a 2019 vw Jetta se automatic with 38 miles on October 11, 2019 one month later as I was driving in traffic on the freeway to working heard and felt a grinding, sounding like it carne from the engine. I didn't want to jump to conclusions so I continued driving but it sounds a bit louder so I took it to the dealer and they told me 4 days later the sound is normal. I'm not comfortable though. I read up on this and there's a class action suit for similar issue. Now I'm afraid for my safety. I traded in my chevy tahoe and that was a great vehicle. I have a warranty and I just want it fixed. Feels like I'm getting the brush off.
My car lost oil every 7k mile ,I bought for brand new , I went in dealership mamy many time and they inspected my car and results are we cannot fix this problems to many cars vw 2019 has this problem so my car lost 500gr on 1000 k mile , they just refill oil , I never heart that to put oil on top doest since. I have paper and everything but no body care.
