6 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

Grinding sound at lower speeds when shifting up. Automatic 8 speed r-line. Sound tends not to happen when the car is in "sport mode". Vw dealerships say they don't hear anything but everyone I know does and everyone on line has the issue too. Vw not acknowledging it's a known issue. This happens up to 40 or so mines or when shifting. Concerning noise.

7 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/13/2019

I purchased a new Jetta 2019 on 05. 31. 2019 and started noticing a transmission noise (scraping or scratching noise when shifting gears at low speed) soon after. First appt to dealer on 06. 13. 19 and they kept the vehicle for 4 days. On 06. 17. 19 service manager told me that vehicle's noise is normal. I made an appt and another dealer for 06. 19. 19 (today). Dealer acknowledge sound however they are unable to cover transmission noise because vw USA issued "technical service bulletin / tech tip" on 04. 18. 19 (transaction no. 205788/4) recommending "no further repairs". Now customers are left to deal with abnormal transmission sounds when driving and unable to fix them under warranty. Keeping in mind that I purchase this vehicle because of the 7 year / 72k miles warranty. I can honestly share with you that this has been the worse purchase I've made.

8 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Automatic transmission. Grinding noise and vibration when shift gear at low speed.

9 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/29/2018

My vehicle, like many out there has a grinding or scraping noise emitted during upshifting at less than highway speed. During the noise, the car has a small loss of power. It sounds as though the transmission is coming apart. It happens in all modes but is more evident in eco mode. The dealer is playing dumb pretending like it is not an issue and even said they have not heard of it before. The car came out of service with no improvement.

14 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/22/2013

At approx 80-90k I started hearing a clattering noise from the engine and extra noise when idling. Also, the car has a hard time shifting (automatic trans). After taking the car to a mechanic, I was told that it's the dsg dmf coming apart and rattling. After doing some research, I find it's a common problem. It started happening shortly after my car went out of cpo warranty, which expired at 74k. I didn't really pay that much attention to it until it got worse. This is a 06 tdi mkv with auto dsg, brm engine. Also experiencing difficulties with soot in fuel filter, likely due to faulty seal in fuel injectors under cam shaft. Once again, common problem according to mechanics and online forums on this model. There's a recall on the dmf for this model in australia, needs to have one for us.

15 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/21/2012

Hi, so my 2005. 5 2. 5l Volkswagen Jetta started making noises upon acceleration and the engine would shift quite heavily during idling. The check engine light went on and I took the car to dealership. Apparently, there is an issue with the timing chains of the engine. Never missed a maintenance, after only 68,000 miles it doesn't seem okay that timing chains are already affected. After looking at a few forums online, it seems that this is a very common problem for Volkswagen Jettas from that time. Please investigate! thank you.

16 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/11/2011

2009 Volkswagen Jetta tdi at 53,000 miles my radiator went out due to a design flaw were a clamp rubbed a hole in the radiator. Vw would not cover under factory warranty, at 68,000 miles the alignment went out in the automobile, and finnally at 72,000 miles I noticed my transmission making a hard shift and a delay shift when taking off, I inquired about it twice at the dealer ship and was advise nothing was wrong. Then at 94,000 miles I started hearing a loud noise from my motor it is the dual mass cluch flywheel has gone out. The dealership wants $3000. 00 to fix. I called vw of America, the vp I talked to, said just because the part was recalled in australia and canada it doesn't mean anything to them.

17 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/05/2010

We recently bought a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta (the newer design also coincided 2005. 5) from a private individual in March 2010. We noticed there was a slight problem with shifting gears that continued to get worse. In June 2010 we took the car to a local Volkswagen dealer and discussed the problem. They told us it sounded like the dual mass flywheel was the problem. That there was 2 different manufacturers that make the flywheels and they no longer use one of the manufacturers due to defects and problems with the flywheels they made. They said it was a known problem that the flywheels were bad and would need replaced way before they were suppose to. Even though the problem was known by Volkswagen they refused to fix replace the defective part. They said we could continue to drive it and but would continue to get worse and end up tearing up alot of other stuff if it did. We looked online and found many other people having this same problem, though no recall. We also read where if the flywheel locked up/came apart while driving it could lockup the entire car. We did come across where the flywheel had been recalled in europe. The car was drove till November 2010 when it had gotten to the point where it would downshift on hills and when you would try to get up speed to merge onto the interstate it would not shift to the next gear( but the rpms were normal) and was forced to merge onto the interstate at a very slow and unsafe speed. The engine also had a very loud chatter noise. We decided to have it fixed and replaced the flywheel assy & mount bolts and had to have the transmission fluid flushed and refilled and a new filter put in. Totaling $1423. 00. The new flywheel was not the same as the original one. It now runs great. Shifts perfectly and smoothly.

18 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 04/18/2010

2. 0t engine with dsg triptronic transmission. I've noticed, this occurs when the car has been driven for about an hour (give or take) and it happens in stop and go traffic. This occurs usually during a stop light/stop sign or stop and go traffic. As you have come to a complete stop and release the brake pedal to start moving (in other words no pedal being pressed) the car tends shift/jerk before you press the accelerator. In many occasions, you need to slam the brakes so the car doesn't launch itself to hit a car/traffic in front of you. This "acceleration/launch/trans jerk" last about 1-3 seconds at that point you hear some "metal clunk or some type of metal hitting noise". In one instance, the car's shift indicator went blank and the car didn't respond in highway traffic. Pulled to the side, and car was normal again. There is serious accident potential with this problem. I see there are a lot of complaints with this transmission from other owners (from seeing complaints on this website) including a neighbor 2006 Jetta with dsg transmission & friend who has a 2007 gti with a 2. 0t engine & dsg trans-both have same problem. I really hope someone does and finally look into this problem and help us consumers and most importantly, before someone becomes hurt. Car is currently at dealer, however, they say they can't find nothing wrong with it.

19 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/19/2009

Hi I boughtmy 06 tdi Jetta 2 yrs ago it had 39,800 miles on it and now I see why it was traded in at 40,000 it needs a 560. 00 service that I was not told about. My fault for not reading the whole manual . I was told by dealer that the dsg would need to be serviced at 100,000 miles and it would be good. I brought the car in for clattering noise several times and was told it was normal the car hesitated often and shifted poorly but since it was at the dealer I figured it was normal. The clatter got worse and by this time it was about due for its 100000 mile service but before I could get it in one day driving home from work it soulded like a bucket or bolts feel out from my car the clatter became severe and soon after the car left me sit on the side of the highway. I describe the problem and clatter noise to the dealer and all of a sudden they knew the problem exactly. They tell me its probably the clutches and it can't be rebuilt and then the service manager at young vw laughing a little tells me that I missed two services on the tranny when I bought the car with 39800 and then the car was brought in several times and no one ever told me their might be a problem until now the car sits and I need 5000. 00 dollars to fix it. This transmission is a piece of !@#$%. I don't know how many times I almost got side swiped trying to pull out into traffic quickly from a dead stop.

20 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/16/2009

On February 16th while running errands I pulled through a drive through for lunch, car was running and sounded just fine, after pulling away I heard a loud "shrieking" noise and then a clunk, the car lost power and made a grinding noise, I immediately pulled into the adjacent parking lot and shut the car off, I waited a few minutes then restarted the car it started just fine but seemed to be idling a little rough, I shifted car into drive and lightly pressed the accelerator the grinding noise was present so I put the car back in park and shut off the engine, called aaa and had the car towed to the dealership. The dealership then called me later that afternoon and informed me that the dual mass flywheel had separated and would need to be replaced, they quoted me $1800 for the repair. I was informed that they had the part in stock and I approved the repair. The car just had 64,381 miles and I though it was odd that this failure occurred, I did some research on the internet and discovered that this is a "known" failure. Since the warranty "just" expired I had to pay for the repair. I contacted vw0fa and they took the information but did state the warranty expired, I understand that but it appears that this issue has been reported numerous times and this needs to be investigated! I had just exited the interstate before this happened, what would have been the outcome if I stayed on the freeway at 60mph and this component failed?.

21 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/01/2008

I drive a 2008 vw Jetta wolfsburg edition equipped with the dsg (direct shift gearbox) transmission. After driving the car for about 1000 miles I started to noticed very harsh 2 to 1 downshifts and surging while in drive. By the harsh downshift I mean when slowing down coming to a stop when the gearbox would shift from 2nd gear down into 1st gear I would always experience a loud metallic "clunk" noise. In regards to the surging while in drive I mean when at a dead stop and you give even/slight pedal pressure on the accelerator the car would surge forward over and over again like you were stepping on the gas and then letting off. This characteristic was very prevalent on an incline. The vw dealership I work with diagnosed the problem as a faulty mechatronics unit which controls the functions of the complex dsg transmission. It was replaced at 5000 miles. After driving with the new mechatronics unit installed for roughly 6000 more miles I started to now experience the same surging issues but when the car was in reverse. I also noticed that the rpm's would always drop like the engine was going to stall everytime I would shift into drive from park. And lastly when starting from a stop, applying even accelerator pedal pressure, the car would always "jump" off the line. Brought it into the vw dealership again and they ended up replacing the whole transmission. After the new dsg transmission has been installed the car drives very smooth now with no surging and no harsh 2 to 1 downshifts. The new trans only has 300 miles on it currently but I hope the same issues do not occur again.

22 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/27/2005

The reason for the late post is that I just discovered this site. I purchased my 2005 vw Jetta brand new in 2005. It had 61 miles on it. I had the car for about 5 months when it was shifting very hard and nearly snapping my neck. I took the vehicle to the vw dealership over 30 times within a years time and they continued to tell me nothing was wrong. They kept the car and drove it and it of course it would not happen while they drove it. They actually told me I was driving the car incorrectly (what that means I don't know). I was unaware of the lemon law at the time. The car continued to shift extremely hard. Finally after it went back for the 30th time I demanded that they keep the car and drive it until it happened. Finally after 2 weeks (they actually gave me a loaner) the mechanic called me stating that it nearly snapped his neck and that they would put in a new transmission (rebuilt mind you). After getting it back about 2 weeks later the car would not go in reverse and was making the worst noise ever but I continued to drive it to the dealership. They had to replace the transmission once again (another rebuilt transmission). The other issue I had was the locks on the car. Some of the doors lock with the key fob while the back doors don't work with the fob or the switch on the door panel. This is frusturating when you have childreen and need to lock and unlock the car and get them in and out.

24 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/02/2004

While driving the engine began to make a loud noise. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer who found that the motor mounts were broken and caused the engine to fall to the ground. The dealer replaced the engine, engine block, timing belt and the lower shield. Also at 59,000 the manual transmission had to be replaced because the consumer could not shift into reverse.

25 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/07/2002

Beginning three years ago the owner noticed that when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, the car would jerk and jolt. After 2nd gear the shifting was fine. When shifting into reverse there was also a jerk and jolt. The first time the owner noticed it was in town on a main road. The problem is intermittent but frequent. Dealer evaluated the vehicle and they test drove it and found the condition normal. Then last Thursday July 7 2005 the vehicle made a loud mechanical noise like a grinding sound when shifting from 1st to 2nd, also when shifting into reverse. Then the owner contacted a mechanic and they test drove it, and then they reported it is a seriuos problem with transmission. Then the dealer instructed owner to bring it back to dealership. It is now 2000 miles past warranty. Dealer advises that there is a broken part in the transmission that has become lodged. The transmission needs to be replaced according to dealer at a cost of $4,500. Onwer contacted vw of America and they reported since it is past warranty, there is nothing they can do to help with the repair cost. Owner sent a fax to dealer stating that he needs documentation of what is exactly wrong with the vehicle. The return fax stated that there is no way to determine what the exact problem unless the transmission is taken apart. So owner wonders what did dealership tell the Volkswagen company . The vehicle is being taken to a mechanic. The dealer left a message that there is a tow truck there to pick up the vehicle but the dealership has dented the underside of the vehicle and it needs to be returned to dealership. The vehicle is now at the transmission shop.

28 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/29/2001

Automatic transmission makes high pitch sound on acceleration/ automatic transmission shifts erratic/ vehicle did not proceed forward on acceleration in drive position, remained idle. When attempting to put the car in park to verify if engine had shut off, shift handle locked up in the neutral position. After about 1 minute, free from neutral and put back into park position when shifting into drive, car jumped forward. / vehicle experienced difficulty in reaching speeds of 60 to 70 miles per hour. Brought car in for inspection. Other complaint was drivers seat moved too much. Dealer to replace with new seat harnest. Dealer attempting to replace transmission with new. I talked to vw assistant service manager and is telling me that they are not sure they have the right transmission. Also admits that engine gears for transmission were faulty is the reason for the high pitch noise coming from engine compartment. I wish to exchange my vehicle with another. Can you help me do this?.
