7 Transmission Failure problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/18/2019

My 2013 vw Jetta hybrid has 68000 miles on it and it keeps stalling while driving. Multiple times it stopped on freeway. There is a recall from vw and reason for recall is mechatronics unit failure. The failure of mechatronics unit causes low transmission oil and clutch slippage both of which can cause damage to the vehicle transmission. Vw service says there is some internal oil leak and problem is not of mechatronic unit and I have to pay for replacing transmission. Iam not provided with any specific details on the transmission failure. They say, "it's an internal failure", "its unrelated to the mechatronics", and "there are cracks on transmission". They have also said that they will not repair the mechatronics unit without me replacing the transmission because the mechatronics unit would have been damaged because of damaged transmission. There are so many problems with my vw. Vw service is not giving clear picture. When there is recall and my vehicle VIN shows that it has mechatronic recall why iam asked to pay for transmission? vw service is refusing to repair my vehicle for the recall mechatronic unit and they ask me to pay for replacing the transmission.

12 Transmission Failure problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/05/2018

A few months back an error came up on my dash saying "hybrid workshop. " I called the dealership and they said it was regular for my car to say that at about 68k and that I would soon need a hybrid systems check. That light went off the very next day so I didn't stress it. Soon after my car began acting funny when coming to complete stops, the vehicle would jolt back into motion causing a hard breaking motion to occur. Soon after my transmission failed as I was parking. I was in reverse and the car suddenly stopped reversing and began to rev loudly before jumping back into reverse and then back to revving. After transmission failure, I brought it to the dealer and the dealership said it may be my mechatronics unit, after taking the mechatronics unit out they determined it was indeed the transmission. I've read of a recall for this very same problem hundreds of times online after searching it, yet my VIN isn't connected to any recalls on vws website.

16 Transmission Failure problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/16/2013

Our Jetta experienced a "false neutral" problem back in December, 2013. (95,000 miles) I did some research and found that it could be due to a low voltage condition. I checked the electrical system and found the alternator to be faulty. I replaced it and kept driving the car. Everything seemed fine until mid January, 2014 when we experienced another fn event. We were able to switch the car off and then back on and the condition went away. I called our local vw dealer and scheduled an appointment for a diagnostic. The results of this test came back and they said we needed a new mechatronics unit (this controls the transmission) at a cost of $2300. 00 I am familiar with these cars and also familiar with the fact that vw has already investigated this issue in later year cars. This investigation (NHTSA action# pe09035) resulted in a recall campaign (NHTSA# 09v333000) where vw replaced defective mechatronics units and extended the warranty on the affected units to 10yrs/100,000 miles. Less than 24 hours after receiving this diagnosis, the transmission completely locked up while driving down the road, luckily it was at an intersection and the speed was less than 15mph. I had the car towed back to the vw dealer, the transmission must now be replaced ($6,000. 00) I content that this is the same or nearly the same issue addressed in the previous campaign and that vw did not find the root cause of the mechatronics and subsequent transmission failure. A new investigation needs to be opened to address this problem, it is a safety issue which has already been addressed for some of their vehicles. Vw needs to be made to address it for all dsg equipped vehicles, especially ones manufactured before the previously investigated lot. I contacted vwoa and even though my vehicle is still within the mileage range of the warranty extension they will not offer any assistance in the repairs.

17 Transmission Failure problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/08/2012

We just bought a new 2013 volkswagon Jetta sports wagon with diesel tdi engine and dsg transmission. Driving the car home from the dealer the transmission failed at 110 miles on the odometer. It has been towed to the dealer and they tell me that the mechatronic unit has failed. The symptom of the failure was that the transmission seemed to shift into nuetral with no notice and the car had severally reduced power available (less than 10 mph). Research on the internet shows that volkwagon has had problems with this before. It seems very serious to me to have something like this fail on a brand new vehicle.

18 Transmission Failure problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/14/2012

The car developed a rattle around 80000 miles, after searches on the internet I was sure the dual mass flywheel (dmf)was failing. I took the car to the dealer today and they confirmed it was the dmf. They also confirmed this is a common problem and volks refuses to do anything if car is out of warranty. Other countries are already making volks recall theses cars and replace the dmf. The cost of this repair is $1800. This problem affects about 30% of cars and can cause transmission failure which will lead to another $4200 dollar repair. I would really like to get help in getting volks to help with this repair.

20 Transmission Failure problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/02/2010

There are acknowledged transmission failures in the 2003-2008 vw Jettas. They hard shift from 1/2 and 2/3. This causes the vehicle to be unpredictable during acceleration, especially during merging which is extremely dangerous. Vw sent notices of "warranty extensions" to 7 years or 100,000 miles. However, this does not cover a majority of effected vehicles. 2003's would already be over 7 years old and an average mileage. Owner-[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

21 Transmission Failure problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/16/2009

2006 vw Jetta tdi w/ 14,000 miles approaching a yield, the clutch was depressed. The clutch stuck to the floor of the vehicle causing the vehicle to loose all transmission function. The vehicle coasted to the side of the road and was towed to the dealer. It has been identified that some sachs clutch components have a developmental (friction material) flaw which cause premature clutch disc wear. The dealer determined the transmission failure was due to driver error. Friction material flaw on clutch plate or pressure plate which leads to burnt, shredded, or missing clutch plate material on clutch plate. This should be covered by my warranty. Especially since there is only 14,000 miles. This problem has been reported by hundreds of 06 tdi owners and vw continues to accept responsibility for their flawed equipment.

22 Transmission Failure problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/10/2009

23 Transmission Failure problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/10/2009

Make: Volkswagen model: Jetta sportwagen year: 2009 drivetrain: tdi transmission: dsg issue: while decelerating, and under normal driving conditions, the dsg transmission downshifts into neutral. Detail: the p-r-n-d-s letters on the multifunction display begin to flash. The failure mileage was 11,000 and the current mileage was 15,500.

25 Transmission Failure problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/29/2008

Premature automatic transmission failure on a 2002 vw Jetta tdi diesel. First time it failed and locked the front wheels on Jan 2003 at 15,500 miles. The vw dealer failed to diagnose or acknowledge a problem when the car was beginning to exhibit difficulty shifting into reverse - 30 days before the transmission locked up while I was passing another vehicle, resulting in a near miss head-on collision. Transmission replaced under warranty. On sept 29, 2008, 89,400 miles, the transmission began exhibiting the same problems as previously described. A local transmission shop, duckett's automotive, reported that premature automatic transmission failure at 50,000 miles or less is common with tdi Jettas. They report that there is no service bulletin or after-market fix to what they describe as a defectively designed auto transmission. The specific site of failure are the bearings in the planetary gear. The result, $3200. 00 repair and rebuild. Two transmissions in less than 100,000 miles, and the expectation of premature failure of this repair as well.

26 Transmission Failure problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/15/2008

I have a 2003 vw Jetta tdi. I have always had it serviced on time and have kept it well maintained, I have 78,000 miles on it. The speed sensor in the transmission has failed and Volkswagen refuses to fix it. I worry because the doors not lock correctly because of this and I am not aware at the speed I travel because the gauges have failed. My biggest worry is that if I were to have an accident the airbags would not work because the car does not know how fast it is going. If this were a normal item like breaks, tires or something that has normal wear and tear I would understand but its not. It is a mechanical problem what I vital function of the car. I really feel that vw should cover the cost or at least split it with me. What do I need to do?.

27 Transmission Failure problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/15/2008

This is in regard to tiptronic transmission failure at 77,000 miles. After the vehicle was fully paid off and 17k miles after warranty had expired. While I was driving vehicle would stay in 1st and 2nd gear and give a big jolt when going into 3rd and 4th while still cold, only after engine would heat up without any stops would it perform sub par. Previous to this I had have no complaints. Dealer quoted $5600 to rebuild transmission and independent shop $2500. I was informed I had a worn clutch and in 2008 I rebuild the transmission and continued having the same issue. After thousands of dollars spent on this vehicle on April 12 of 2012 I sent it the junkyard. I will follow up and send more hard copies documents to NHTSA as I have my entire service records from 2003 - 2012 to submitt. There are 100's of other american car owners with tiptronic transmission experiencing same issues and its apparent that it is faulty manufacturing. I'm attaching several pdf documents with articles and other similar costumer complaints. I have all my service records and will submit hard copies separately however wanted to get the complaint started here. The year of my vehicle was never included but its obvious this issue has been happening longer then previous recalls.

31 Transmission Failure problem of the 1999 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/23/2004

I was driving up 24 north, driving approximately 70 miles per hour. While in the fast lane, my ability to accelerate just stopped. My engine continued to run, however, my car would not move. Fortunately, I was not driving on this highway during rush hour so I was able to coast over to the break down lane. Volkswagen diagnosed that the transmission failed in my car. My concern is that there were absolutely no warning signs or indications that this part was going to fail. Had I been on this highway during a busier time of the day, my car could have caused a serious accident due to the faulty part.

Failure Date: 02/01/2004

2001 vw Jetta vr6 transmission fails to shift smoothly from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd gear. Engine rpms spike/surge before engaging next highest gear, at which point the gear is slammed into as the rpms are too high to engage the gear properly. Have taken the vehicle to two different vw dealers two different times (four visits total) and dealers say they cannot duplicate the problem or that they reset the shifting points in the fuzzy logic. Independent transmission shop calls for replacement of the valve body, all electronics and hard components in valve body for a cost of $3425. Vw of America refuses to acknowledge a problem exits unless diagnosed by a vw dealer and will not pay for diagnosis by a third party mechanic. 35 Transmission Failure problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/20/2002

Transmission failure while passing another vehicle at highway speed. The automatic transmission began upshifting and downshifting by itself, causing the engine to redline and nearly stranding our vehicle in the lane with oncoming traffic. The transmission then locked the wheels, rendering the car immobile. This occurred on 01/20/03. One month prior to this incident I reported to vw that I was having problems with my transmission not shifting into reverse from park-this occurred twice on the same day. On 12/19/03 vw inspected my transmission. A written report from vw service was given to me they found no problems. Currently vw is replacing my transmission, theyre not admitting the possibility of engine damage. The service manager carel told me,1/21/03,that they have no way of knowing if the new replacement transmission might fail like the first. My concern is that I might not be as lucky next time. I could be rear ended or hit head-on if my wheels lock up again spontaneously.
