I was traveling down the highway this afternoon going 70 mph. All of a sudden, my mother and I heard a loud boom, it sounded like a gunshot. Glass from the sunroof suddenly covered us, the front seating area and the back seat. We were the only car in the highway, there was no evidence of any external object being thrown at my vehicle and the sunroof glass s pushed up, indicating that the explosion happened from inside the vehicle. I've read of several instances of this happening and feel this is a real safety hazard. Lucky, I didn't lose control and we were just shaken up, but this issue needs to be addressed. All of my windows were up, the sunroof was closed, there's no reason for something like this to happen on a car that isn't even two years old.

Last year I was driving home from school one night it was cold out so I turned on my heated seat. My seat started to get very hot in an isolated area so I turned it remembering the recall I received in the mail. The recall stated that the heating element in the seat could be faulty and the seat could catch fire. I called my dealership and they expressed to me that the recall was expired! what how could some thing that could cause injury have an expiration date? well after that I no longer used the seat but one day my son who wanted the car to be warm for his mother started it and turned on both heated seats by the time I went out to the car it was filled with smoke and a hole burned through my seat. Another issue I have is I got a recall on my sun roof saying it causes the drivers side back and front floor to flood. When it did I took it in to my dealer they "fixed it", well last week it poured terrible the next day I went out to my vehicle to find 4 inches of water on the floor of my drivers side back seat. Today 09/18/2012 I took it in to my dealer to be repaired and they wanted to charge me $100 for diagnostic fee. This is outrageous I have a child and to have water sit in between the metal of the car floor and the carpet I am disgusted!!! it smells so bad I had to sprinkle baking soda on the floor to keep the smell at bay. The water is still squishing between the carpet and the metal and it is supposed to storm again today!!! I am completely fed up with Volkswagen!.

The failure mileage was approximately 7,000.

Sun roof drain clogs!!! no direction in manual for cleaning nor warning that it can happen. I found nearly three inches of water in the floor and water all over the interior fuse block. My concern is fire related. Corrosion can lead to high impedence connections and after water intrusion I have no idea how safe my electrical system is. This is the second or third incident and I finally found out what was causing the problem by doing research on the internet. Many others have experienced this problem and it appears that the design of the outlet nipple is the issue.

My sun roof exploded in my 2007 Volkswagen Jetta. There were no outside influences(rock) that could have caused this to happen. The sun roof was not made of safety glass and shattered into small pieces all over me and the inside of my car. There were small slivers everywhere. It was a very loud bang, which caused me to swerve. I was luck to not get any in my eyes, or I didn't have my kids in the car. I stopped at the dealership and they said it must have been a rock or something, and the Volkswagen rep who was at the dealership didn't even come out to speak with me, or look at the car. I was told to settle it with my insurance. I called Volkswagen directly, and was told that they could not do anything other than to suggest I go to my insurance. I explained the extreme safety hazard, and they just said sorry"we can't do anything at this point" case number 100150276. I reporting this because I believe this is a serious safety hazard, and could cause serious injury, or death. I looked online, and other have report the same thing happening to them, sun roof closed, and all of the sudden a loud pop, then glass everywhere, with no vehicles around.

The vehicle was also repaired under the recall 09v164000, power train driveline, driveshaft and had the sunroof drained due to water leakage. The sun roof opened by itself the pop up portion while driving. It happened numerous times. I had to turn the knob to open it then turn the knob to close it and then it closed.

The contact owns a 2002 vw Jetta. Whenever therewas heavy rain, the water came through the sun roof. The water damaged the floor of the vehicle and caused mold under the carpet cushion. This failure occurred on two occasions. The current and failure mileage was 86,000.
Over the weekend the inside of my car filled with rain water. It was a puddle on the bottom of my car. I dried it out with the help of my father. I took it to the local vw dealership and they told me it's not covered as part of my warranty. They said that they know it's the sunroof causing the leak without even looking at it. I asked if has anything to do with the front passenger window I recently had repaired and they said no. They had a bunch of people come in with the same problem and they are all due to the sunroof causing a leak. They said it's not covered under the warranty because it's maintenance when I had no idea this is a problem and vw is very well aware the problem. I'm not sure if this is the type of complaint you handle but I feel that Volkswagen is getting away with a faulty problem with the sunroof and this should be recalled and they absorb the price.

On Feb. 14, 2006, I was driving 65 mph on freeway, experienced loud explosion-type noise - after coming to reality and out of shock realized sunroof was blown out - and I was covered in glass - first reaction was to believe that I had been shot with gun or that something was thrown from overpass - after police investigation, photographs by dealership and dozens of eyewitnesses viewing the remaining out glass of the sunroof (that was still attached but shattered) was pointed in an upward position towards sky - not into vehicle as if it imploded from the interior to exterior - everyone determined that it had not been struck by anything but rather just blew out. This was very frightening and dangerous - I could have been injured by the glass or been involved in an accident from the incident. Everyone sent photos and spoke to Volkswagen of America - they do not care - and refuse to cover under warranty or even question me about incident even though - I have informed that I am fearful to even drive vehicle now - everyone that saw the car in person - is in awe and thinks this is weird - however, vw America the only party who did not see the vehicle in person - is still sticking by their answer that it was caused by something striking the car - there are other people with other types of cars on the internet with this same experience and they also know that they were not struck - I had a police report and photos with proof that the glass blew from the interior out - vw is showing negligence towards me and other drivers. This is the 10th odd incident that I have had with vw - and the second safety hazard - I am trying to get out of the lease because I am too scared to drive the car now. They need to be held responsible - and I am appalled that they were not even concerned with my safety or if I had injuries.
I purchased a 2000 vplkswagen Jetta in the year 2002, pre-owned. I have had nothing but problems with it since I bought it, and now am trading it in, and taking a $3000 loss. Here is a list of the problems I have had in the last 2 years listed from first problems to most recent:
1. Window tray broke, window fell into the door. $300
2. Trunk latch broke, had to get replaced $50
3. Sunroof broke, would not move and needed the entire thing replaced including the motor. $1800
4. Water pump leaked out all coolant, needed to be replaced $ 600
5. Strut coil snaped in half while driving, needed to replace both sides $500
6. Lastly, (this is the point when I decided to file a complaint and trade the car in for another brand) water leaking from the electrical panel on top of inside roof. Sunroof then malfunctioned, opening when the car was started and the knob was not touched. Had to pay to disconnect power sunroof. Whatever you do, please, do not buy a vw Jetta. That is unless you want to have it continually in the shop and having to spend a lot of money on repairs.

Seat heater malfunctioned, burned through the leather seat and burned me while I was driving. I safely pulled the car to the side of the road. The replacement components also malfunctioned, burning the leather seat and once again, burned me. Also, the sunroof has plastic guides that keep breaking, I have had these plastic components replaced three times since I purchased my car in 2002, and I don't use my sunroof that often, probably less than 30 times/year.
Vehicle stalled when being driven at a constant speed. Also, sun roof closed half way.
2001 vw Jetta wolfsburg 40k miles - water leaks into the car from underneath the instrument panel on the passenger side. Dealer stated that it was the drain channel from the sunroof. Week later the problem reoccurred. Dealer stated that they have no idea as to what is causing the problem. They're in process of taking the car apart. Vw customer service is not being helpful at all. I've seen at least two comments on the web about similar problem, but the dealer and the vw customer service claims that they have never seen this problem before. Any advise before my car gets totally disassembled? not to mention water damage to the carpeting. . .
Sunroof is unable to open due to interior obstruction, plastic pieces from assembly cracked and crumbled out of sunroof.
Consumer states every time they open the sunroof a yellow powdery substance, blows into consumer face. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information on the yellow substances. Mr.
Power sunroof jammed twice and was repaired by the dealer.
Sun roof and window regulators failed.

I had both the passenger side window and the driver side window fall into the door frame within a matter of months. Both times the windows were fixed, however, they were reluctant to fix the problem as if it had been my fault. I have a small child and I don't think he appreciates asphyxiation from so much wind in his face on the long drives to the dealer to be replaced. This is just one of the problems on this car, the clutch gets stuck (repaired twice), the sunroof trim broke off and needed to be replaced, the engine makes a rattling noise when shifting (fixed twice), stereo system swallowed my cd (twice before new system installed), and air conditioning releases an awful moldy smell when turned on which dealer refuses to attempt to fix. Bought car in valencia Volkswagen in valencia, CA. Solution simple, traded in my 1yr old car for a better car, one that works!.
Sun roof will not close.
