1 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/01/2020

The low beams on driver and passenger side have failed 12 times and required me buying new h7 bulbs. They have on 3 occasions went out simultaneously while driving at night on the highway. The rear tail light also randomly turns off, requiring opening and shutting the trunk to get it to come back on or shutting off the car and restarting it to get the taillight back on. This has been occurring since 30k miles, my vehicle now has 135k.

2 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/27/2018

The tail lights of my new 2019 vw Jetta, are a hazard for anyone washing the vehicle. They are very sharp at the bottom edge and you can cut your self. As a matter of fact that happened to the sales agent that I negotiated with on December 27th at vw gunther on delray beach florida. He went to help with the cleaning of the car for the delivery, and came back bleeding with a bandage in his finger. Now I am afraid to clean that area and I told everyone in my family to be careful. I think vw should correct this issue ASAP.

6 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 02/23/2016

Since 2012 I have had to replace all exterior lights including break and tail lights. My head lights have been replaced at least at 8 times over the past two years or so. Vw claims there is nothing wrong and its my fault because I am not replacing them with their brand and buying them elsewhere.

7 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

Vw Jetta wolfsburg edition 2009. 1. I have taken my car auto repair shop over 5x over the times over the past year because the 'engine malfunction' light was going on/off intermittently - on for 3 hours then off, on for 2 days, off. Now the check engine light is permanently illuminated on the dashboard despite multiple engine auto repair services rendered. 2. The abs and eps/asr symbols illuminate and alarm goes off randomly without reason while I am driving 50-65mph on major nyc highways and/or when im driving 15-35 on a residential street. The eps/asr flashes continuously while sounding an alarm for 60 seconds or so, abs remains constant lit and will continue to do so until I am able to stop, turn of the engine, wait a minute, and then restart the car. On highway I have had to drive considerable distance with emergency lights flashing. 3. I was pulled over by a cop at night because one of my tail lights was out. I had no idea that was the case and would have never found out because the "light bulb!" warning was not on, and never came on. I got it fixed 2 days later, still no light bulb signal, my right taillight was replaced. About 2 weeks later the "light bulb!" icon illuminated, I tested and all the lights were working- but the 'lightbulb!' remained lit. About 2 weeks later the lightbulb was off. 4. The aux feature on my car is no longer accessible. Repair shop but they were unable to fix because vw speciality code/ system programming? 5. I have noticed it takes more effort to engage my brakes while driving. I have had my car brake pads replaced at least 2x over the past 6 years (I have driven about 20k miles). Also note - no symbol of emergency brake/ mechanic maintenance / worn brake pads/ automatic transmission/gearbox symbol were illuminated during this event (in February 2018) and none of these symbols had illuminated to this day (April 2018).

9 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

The tail lights and brake lights were not working. Discovered during annual state required inspection in September 2015. I was driving the vehicle regularly on rural, city and highway roads without tail and brake lights and was unaware. A repair to the electrical wiring was required. Addtionally, the trunk latch was only working intermittently prior to this repair. Since the wiring repair was made, I have had no issues with the trunk release not working. The rear passenger door on the drivers side doesn't lock and unlock when you depress the keyfob or the button in the car to lock all the doors. This is a very infrequently used door and it is the door used the least in the vehicle. Dealer states it is a bad door latch. I have not repaired it. It doesn't always open from the outside, sometimes I have to reach in and open it from the inside to get the door open. On 01. 12. 2016 the car radio stopped working. The fuses are good and intact. The bluetooth no longer works since the radio doesn't work. It is completely out of service, nothing works on the radio. I relied heavily on the bluetooth for hands free phone calls since the vehicle is manual transmission. Vehicle was stationary when discovered. Vehicle has approximately 55,000 miles on it.

11 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/07/2013

I bought my 2010 Jetta used in June 2013. A month after I purchased it, I noticed the a/c was not working. I returned it to the dealer and they confirmed that the a/c compressor wasn't working. They installed a new one and I didn't have a problem until 8/7/13. I went out to start my car and noticed I had a light on my dashboard. I got out of the car and noticed my right front passenger side headlight out. I walked around and noticed the drivers side rear tail light was also out. I got home and when I shut the car off and turned it back on, the light on the dash was out, and all my exterior lights were working. It was around this time I noticed a burning smell whenever I exited the car, but I couldn't' pinpoint where it was coming from. I didn't have another issue until 10/25/14 when I was visiting friends 30 miles away. I went to leave, and when I started my car I once again had the light on the dash, so I got out and noticed the same lights were once again out. I had to drive on the highway like this, but thankfully while I was driving they all came back on. The car was fine until 12/14/13 when I went out to start my car in the morning and once again the same lights were out. The last time I had an issue with this was 1/7/14, in the middle of a blizzard. I got out of work and started my car to clear snow off it, and everything was fine. It wasn't until I turned the headlights on that I noticed the light on the dash was on indicating I had a light out somewhere. I got out and noticed that in addition to the same headlight and tail light being out, the license plate lights were also out. By the time I could get in the car they were all working again. I took it to the dealership and they confirmed the 30 amp fuse had overheated and caused the fusebox to melt (hence the burning smell). $500 later my car is hopefully fixed. Thankfully the car didn't burn to the ground.

12 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/11/2013

While starting my car and getting ready for work I noticed I had a headlamp out. I thought I could drive to work safely so, I started my commute. However, on stopping to get coffee I noticed I had taillights out and upon further testing brake lights were failing to. I stopped at a autoparts store to replace the tail lights and noticed that I had lost the other headlamp and backup lights. I decided to park the car and call the dealership for advice. I had the car towed (to dangerous to drive) to the dealership and at that time it was diagnosed of having a burned fuse panel box. It was replaced for a total of $533. 11 dollars. The reason I am reporting this is I read an article in my local newspaper (zanesville times recorder)about the same thing happening in vw tiguans. I wanted to bring to light that it is happening in vw Jetta's also. My car is a 2010 vw Jetta diesel. The high mileage is due to a 110 mile round trip daily commute. I have the burned fuse box panel in my possession if you would like it for inspection.

13 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/19/2012

On Monday, 11-19, after work I noticed that the bulb indicator light was in on the dashboard. I got out and walked around the car to see what went out and could not find anything. After getting back in I saw that the light was off. The next day when my husband got in the car the same incident happened. Later that same day I drove the car and the light came on. As I turned into a fuel station the turn signal began to flash quickly (indicating the turn signal was out). After I refuel the lights all came back on. No problems were noticed until Thursday, 11-22, when my husband started the car and the indicator light was on and he got out to check and the passenger turn signals was out, along with the passenger headlight, and the whole driver side tail light assembly is out.

14 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/06/2012

Left side headlight, turn signal and tail light went out. I went to the dealer to have it fixed and then 3 weeks later the right side went out. Changed the headlamp and nothing was fixed. The complete right side lighting of the car is out. At certain times during this period it would start working, then stop.

15 Tail Light Switch problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/27/2008

I have been pulled over by police multiple times over the years with this vehicle due to rear lights not working properly. At one point, both of my tail lights were not functioning -- this was very dangerous. I have replaced them each time and they seem to go out quite frequently. I have noticed tail lights being out on cars with the same make and model as mine.
