While driving the 2011 vw Jetta on 1/5/14 during rain showers I switched the wipers on (which I had previously used aprox 5 mins before) & nothing happened, then I realized that the turn signals were also not working including the hazard flashers. . Upon reaching my home at reduced speeds in order to safely make it home I attempted to make the needed repair to resolve the issue, thinking the issue was a blown fuse, but after further investigation no blown fuses are present & at the current time vw service dept. Denies that any part of the electrical system is faulty & although the problem is still currently not fixed. Along with other electrical functions such as the power windows & door locks not functioning due to this electrical malfunction the vehicle will not crank & start using the ignition switch. I feel this problem is a safety issue that vw needs to address & offer a recall before such a malfunction results in a fatal incident due to not being able to clearly see the roadway during rainy conditions.

Turn signal switch malfunction and fire. . . Right turn signal activated without switch being activated. After about 5-10 minutes in this condition, smoke came out of steering column. Fire/marking could be seen in the switch area. Eventually the turn signal went out and the smoke/fire stoppped. Vw service replaced the switch and wire harnes. The plactic on the switch and harnes was melted and charred.

The blinker on my car is failing. It is in the unit on the steering column. After turning a corner it will not automatically shut off. When driving it will drop down and come on sometimes. It sometimes does not want to come on and I have to push it hard. The vehicle is a 1999. 5 vw Jetta. I have read on the forums also that this is a very common problem and a very expensive fix.

The turn signal on my 2002 vw Jetta, VIN 3vwsp69m32m070537 operates at random. This condition sometimes occurs after going over bumps or after completing a lane change maneuver. The turn signal switch is in the center, or "off" position but the turn signal / hazard flasher starts and/or stops at random. Vw's safety recall vx dated March 2005 claims that my vehicle is outside the range of affected vins but clearly this is not the case. Please investigate this concern and consider forcing vw to do a more extensive recall as this problem is not just annoying, it is potentially a safety concern. An accident or electrical fire could possibly result from this condition.

Consumer's vehicle was having the same problems as mentioned recall 04v584000 concerning turn signal switch. The turn signal worked intermittently. Dealership will not repair free of charge, because the VIN was not included.
The turn signal/cruis control handle fell off, preventing the operator from signaling an intent to turn. The handle was not damaged in any way to cause it to fall off other than normal use. The handle is dangling by its wires to the cruise control and the operator is unable to signal an intent to turn.

The contact stated the hazard flashing lights switch malfunctioned. All of the exterior lights on the car burned out. The turn signals would tick, but the blinker light would not come on. This was temporarily solved by removing the hazard light switch. Volkswagen issued recall 04v584000 on the hazard switch, but this vehicle was not included in the recall. The manufacturer and the dealer have been contact, and neither offered any free solution.
The turn signal switch malfunctioned and was replaced.
