1 Turn Signal problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

In the following, lb/hb is low beam, high beam: the dashboard indicator for hb is always on, even when the steering column lever is on lb and lights are really lb. the turn signal dashboard light blinks fast -- like there is a burnt-out bulb -- but they actually flash fine. when the steering column lever is set to hb, all lights on the driver side are dead; or, the hb bulb doesn't light at all and the lb bulb goes faint. when I turn the lights off when the engine is running, they stay on say I'm driving at night all everything is fine. I turn the car off; when I start it up again seconds later, the lights are messed up finally, the lights usually stay either working or are messed up while driving, but once in a while, they will go from working to messed up or vice versa while driving. But I work at night and live only one mile from my job, so I have not had this car on the road at night for any significant length of time. The most common scenario is that the car has sat for hours; I start it, and the lights are either messed up or working fine, and they stay that way until the car is turned off and started again.

2 Turn Signal problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/05/2017

The radio stopped working completely, which seems like a common problem. But in addition the lights were malfunctioning from that point on. 12 different error warnings appeared on the readout about different lights not working. I checked the fuses and all of them were ok, not burned. Several years ago I had one of the headlights intermittently not work. At that point I checked the fuses and there was one fuse that had a deformed plastic cap, but the metal part was still in one piece. Part of the fuse box it was inserted in was melted. This all happened when I first started the car. Obviously I could not operate the car since the brake lights, turn signals, and headlights were all affected. The diagnostic display in the car also showed to check the airbags and stability control.

4 Turn Signal problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/05/2017

The lights are all crossed. The left turn signal is weaker on the driver mirror. The overhead lights seemed to be crossed. You turn one off and the passenger lights in back come on. The bluetooth stopped working. It is like it has a shirt in it. This is while driving as well as stationary in car port.

5 Turn Signal problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/19/2016

This is the third time this year I have needed to replace my headlights. This time even the replacement headlights are not working. My vehicle currently has no working headlights. Just the high beams, park lights, daytime running lights and turn signal lights work, but not the low beam headlights. I don't understand it and my vehicle is highly maintained and in great condition. Yet, I keep suffering with the same headlight problem. I don't believe it's the bulbs and my mechanic has even told me it's a fault with the manufacturing of the vehicle.

6 Turn Signal problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/18/2015

I was driving my vw Jetta 2004 tdi on a highway, I was using my high beam and low beam headlights to yield to incoming traffic when all of a sadden my headlights went off, I had to stop it was very dark and dangerous road, I moved and wiggle the lever to see if I could make it come on again, eventually it did, it did that about 4 times, every time it scared the . . . Out of me could not see road. Took it to a mechanic, replaced the turn signal high beam low beam and cruse control lever, its all in one lever. I looked on line to see if someone else have the same problem and it seems that is a common problem with this vehicle.

7 Turn Signal problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/10/2014

Headlights, brake lights, turn signals and license plate lights all went out at the same time while driving at night with a toddler in the car. Numerous warnings flashed on the car. Tracked down the problem to a melted fuse connection on the fuse plate in the engine compartment, next to the battery. The fuse (f16) was also melted. I replaced the fuse and eveything is now working, but since the plate is still melted, I'm concerned the issue will reoccur. I called vw and apparently there is a service action (97am) to fix this exact issue for Jetta sedans and gtis but not Jetta sportwagens. Since I'm having the same issue, I believe that this service action should be extended to 2011 Jetta sportwagens as well.

8 Turn Signal problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

The wiring harness of the driver's door failed, which prevents the left turn signal, windows, door locks and gas fill door from functioning. The car becomes unsafe since the left signal will not work and the window will not operate so the driver can do a manual signal. Vw has issued a service bulletin on the issue stating that the original wiring harness is too short and breaks causing this issue, but they refuse to recall the car and fix the problem. A class action lawsuit has been filed on this issue, and is close to settlement, but will only cover cars less than 8. 5 years old. Most of the cars effected by this issue, 2005 and 2006 model years, are older than 8. 5 years so vw will not fix them. The following youtube video demonstrates all of these issues, please view it for full details: www. Youtube. . Read more...

9 Turn Signal problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/03/2014

Fuse box fuse socket # f16 melted causing right headlight, turn signal, city lights and right marker light to fail. Seeing numerous reports of the same thing on the web.

10 Turn Signal problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 12/27/2013

Passenger headlamps, passenger front turn signal and all rear turn signals stopped working. The right signal was not operational. Took car to dealer and they indicated the fuse box and the 30 amp fuse ( f16) under the hood had overheated and melted. They are charging me $580. 00 to replace the fuse box and fuse. When asked was this a defect and how can this situation be prevented, they said it has happened with other cars. It is something that happens and good thing I brought it in because other major damage to the car could have occurred. My concern is that this defect is a safety issue that could lead to serious consequences. Other Volkswagen vehicles have been recalled for this same issue (melted fuse box and fuses) and it is not clear why Volkswagen isn't extending a recall to all cars that exhibit the same defect.

11 Turn Signal problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/23/2013

Lost passenger headlamp, passenger front turn signal and all rear turn signals. The fast signal only indicated that the right signal was not operational. We had a near rear collision while making a left turn into traffic. Upon investigation it was found that the 30 amp fuse (number f16) in the under hood fuse box was overheated and melted as well as the fuse socket was melted.

12 Turn Signal problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 10/25/2013

The led mirror turn signal and the front bumper orange illuminated safety reflector both on the driver's side of the vehicle simultaneously stopped working. I'm unsure if this is due to fuse issues or computer related electrical issues. A safety problem is posed when they're not working.

13 Turn Signal problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/15/2013

Intermittent electrical problems from undetermined source for last year, ended up losing all lights on passenger side of car, and some lights/light function on driver's side, including brake lights, turn signals, headlights etc. Random security alarm going off without being able to turn it off, brake warning lights, traction control issues. After a quick internet search I became aware that this is a very common problem and known vw issue, and found f16 fuse to be melted along with a portion of the fuse box. Called the only vw dealer in the city 10/23/14 and was told I had two safety recalls on my car, one for an ecm software update and one for this electrical issue, neither of which I was notified of, yet have been notified to have the "diesel only" sticker installed, and haven't moved since long before I purchased the car. Dealer is not able to look at my vehicle until 10/27/14 and cannot provide a loaner car since Volkswagen won't reimburse them for that cost. Called Volkswagen customer service and spoke with doug, only to be told they could not authorize rental car reimbursement, and I would need to either shoulder that expense myself or continue driving the car in it's current state. Informed him that the car was not safe to be driven with the lighting issues, and fuse f16 being tied into abs as well, was told he couldn't help me. If they had done the correct thing, I wouldn't be left in an unsafe car to transport my family, due to their engineering design negligence.

14 Turn Signal problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/30/2013

Exterior right headlamp and right turn signal stopped working, discovered that fuse had melted in fuse box, fuse changed, worked for approximately 2 months then fuse blew again. Have changed fuses 4 times, but keeps going out.

15 Turn Signal problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Volkswagen new Jetta. The contact was driving 60 mph when the power windows and turn signals failed to work properly. The contact also mentioned that the exterior and interior lighting failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that both a wiring and crash harness was needed to resolve the failure. The manufacturer was not notified, and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 54,000 and the current mileage was 69,000.

16 Turn Signal problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/15/2010

2004 Jetta tdi 4 door sedan, it's a turbo diesel. The stalk have to goes to high beam in order for the cruise control to work. This is a defective part, it have been with this car for many years but we do not have time to fix this and it's cost lost of money to replace. When click on the turn signal the cruise control when off, it's very dangerous on the freeway. I believe this parts of the car should be recalled, it's dangerous. Thank you for listening.

17 Turn Signal problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 08/28/2006

After receiving the vehicle from an auto shop the battery was dead. I had them jump start it and the airbag dummy light came on as soon as the car started. It beeped and said airbag fault on the dash. Then the turn signal system started to simulate the sound of the turn signal as if it was on. First it was after I completed the turn it would stay on and speed up or slow down the clicking noise. Within a month it started doing it while I was driving straight down the road. I am unsure if the turn signal system is working properly. Sometimes the flashers don't seem work at random as far as I can tell from the drivers seat. I had a dealer reset the airbag fault but they said that they "think" that we need to replace the multi-function switch on the side of the steering column. I'm not about to spend 500 dollars on something that the dealer isn't even sure of themselves.

18 Turn Signal problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/27/2006

Turn signal unit clicking at twice the speed intermittently when turn signal is not even turned on. Lights have never been actuated yet, but vw dealer told me it could happen as malfunction progresses. Vehicle only 4 years old with 88 000 kms. No recall by manufacturer yet, although dealer told me it is a recurring problem. Cost of replacement for steering stalk flasher unit is 250 dollars.

19 Turn Signal problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 01/08/2006

One comment I have is regarding the rear exterior turn signal lights. Other than the small orange side mirror indicators which are a marginal backup to the rear turn indicators it was still difficult to see the rear turn signals especially when braking as they are red, the same color as the brake lights. When I followed my son home last night I knew he was braking but without the small orange mirror indicator I had no idea he was turning. Is there any plan to replace the rear turn signal lenses with orange colored lenses?.

20 Turn Signal problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/10/2005

2001 Volkswagen Jetta tdi diesel. The right front turn signal, shorted out and malfunctioned. There is a burn make on the socket and on the bulb itself, the bulb did not burn out but the socket did. The consumer was able to take the bulb out and then insert the bulb and it worked short period of time. The vehicle is at the dealership now being fixed, they told the consumer they would not cover the cost of replacement of socket. There is a recall on related component, which is a flasher relay, the recall id is vx. Updated 11/30/2005 - the dealer would not replace the damaged socket. The turn sign is now working with new bulb but the consumer suspects it will fail again due to the damaged socket.

21 Turn Signal problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 03/21/2005

I signaled with my right turn signal for a right-hand turn, suddenly the turn signal stopped flashing (not the quick flashing & clicking for a burnt out bulb), the light stayed on. Tried the left turn signal and the same thing happened. Kept trying them and would not work. Suddenly began operating. The hazard lights did not work either. After repeated attempts, the lights unexpectedly began working. I continued driving, when I signaled another right-hand turn the again the signal repeated the previous failure. I immediately contacted the auto repair shop that I use and setup an appointment for service three days later. The problem occurred intermittenly between the first occurrance and the service appointment. The service technician could not duplicate the problem immediately but the headlamps would not go to bright. He did eventually have the problem with the turn signals. The end result was to replace the switch: headlam dimmer/turn signal/cruise switch 8l0953513j01c (part #). This is an integrated switch. I have listed the three components separately on the complaint list. This same shop had changed the same switch on an Audi. I do not know if the replaced part would still be available.

22 Turn Signal problem of the 1999 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/01/2004

The checking engine light illuminated and the engine began to hesitate. The mechanic found service code stored for fuel trim. The mechanic replaced a defective mass air flow sensor. The signal light bulb was replaced, because it blinked very fast.

23 Turn Signal problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 09/01/2004

My blinkers on my Jetta blinked slowly for a second or two then stopped working, consequences could have been severe as I couldn't signal my turns. I took it to a vw dealership who replaced the emergency hazard switch.

24 Turn Signal problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 05/15/2004

The turn signals of my 2001 Jetta gave out and I've seen on forums where it says that the emergency light switch is at fault. It seems to be a common problem and I am not a fan of paying money for something that is obviously not my fault.

25 Turn Signal problem of the 2001 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 06/01/2003

The turn signals have an intermittent failure. They have turned off, turned of,f and then resumed a few seconds later, or failed to turn on at all. The vehicle is a 2001 Jetta GLS with 40k miles.

26 Turn Signal problem of the 1999 Volkswagen Jetta

Failure Date: 11/14/2002

Brake light switch replaced because cel illuminated indicating a failure of same. After some testing, it became apparent that the brake lights were not illuminating approximately 9 out of 10 times that the brakes were applied. At approximately the same time, the right turn signal began arcing. Replaced the right front signal bulb due to carbon buildup on the bulb. Also replaced the turn signal relay. Right outer cv boot was found to be leaking grease on 5/22/2002 and again on 4/29/2003; in both cases it was replaced. Battery died on 3/10/2003. On 7/9/2002, the center rear seat belt became stuck in its retractor and would not release. Seat belt assembly was replaced. On 10/1/2001, the driver's front window regulator was replaced after the window fell into the door without warning.
