To whom it may concern,
my 16 year old daughter drives a 2004 Volkswagen beetle with automatic transmission that has been very well maintained and only has about 47,000 actual miles. Recently she has been having some very scary experiences with the vehicle and we are highly concerened for her safety. When the vehicle reaches 55 miles per hour on the freeway, it starts to automacially slow down while her foot is on the excelerator and then as she continues to keep her foot on the gas, it all the sudden violently jerks into gear and starts to excelerate again. She was on flat teranine and was not going up a hill when this happens. She said the experience today left her terrified to drive the vehicle!! also, she placed the vehicle in reverse to back out of the driveway, and the breaks and steering wheel both locked. She couldn't steer or stop the car without using the emergency brake. I asked her if she is sure the care was not in neutral and she said it was absolutely 100% in the reverse position. Also she stated the brakes are making a hissing sound like when you let air out of tires, but not all the time and her brakes seem fine. I would like to know about any recalls this vehicle has had and also would like to know what you are willing to do to rectify this issue. I do not feel comfortable that this vehicle is safe for her to be driving at the moment and she has stated that when the issue happens, it feels like her and the car jerk forward with a very violent excessive force. I would like corrospondance started in case in case anything happens to my daughter while operating this vehicle. Your prompt response is appreciated. Traci rivera

I was driving home and my coolant light started beeping and flashing red. I ended up stranded. I got it to the mechanic and he says it is a water pump. So I am replacing the water pump. I feel this should be a recall.

In the fall of 2007 the engine overheating light would come on while driving 40mph+. Car remained at a decent temperature until that speed. Checked everything possible before going to the dealer. Dealer said the water pump was bad and it cost $800 to replace the pump and a couple of cheap belts they had to remove in the process. At the time the car was 5 years old and had around 30,000 miles on it. Very upset that the water pump went out after 30,000 miles.
Check engine light came on. Took in for service. Must be an oxygen sensor they say. They order one and I go back. Not the sensor. Engine coolant leaked on wiring harness causing wiring damage. They replace harness however do not know where coolant is coming from.

The car overheated and the temperature lights came on. I was able to get the automobile to a service station. The problem was diagnosed as a defective water pump. The mechanic found the blades to the fan lying on the engine. He had to replace the water pump with parts ordered from Volkswagen. The mechanic was astonished at the plastic parts used by Volkswagen. There was only 60,000 miles on this vehicle.

The a/c quite working while driving, once it was parked it turned cool for a minute or two then went hot again. We took it for a/c check, all was fine for about 5 miles then it went hot again. The next day took it to the dealer, just before we got there the temp gauge came on. The dealer found the water pump, thermostat, and timing belt needed to be replaced due to overheating. The problem is the light didn't come until the damage was already done.
