I purchased my Passat in pasadena California. I now reside in nevada. The closest dealer to me is lithia Volkswagen of reno 1050 e plumb ln #110, reno, nv 89502. This is an hours drive for me. I have called and explained to this deal that I need my airbag recall fixed. Each attempt, I am advised that they will have to check on the parts and get back to me. They never do. How can I take car of my dangerous recall? I also have questions as to the logistics. Do I make a day of this? would I be required to leave the car for long etc.
Steering wheel had a slight tug and a noise. Lost all functions on steering wheel. Was on a country rd. Took it to a vw mechanic in quincy PA on sept 4 2020. They said the clock spring broke and there was a recall on it. I looked it up and recall number 15v483000 came up. It was already fixed evidently. I guess I should not have it done now it is costing 800 dollars.
Clock spring failure. All steering wheel electronics non-functioning. Drivers air-bag non-functioning. Previously recalled and dust cover installed, clock spring still failed. Clock spring failed while turning a corner at idle speed in a residential neighborhood.
I was driving yesterday ,when southerly light show error airbags /abs . So I when the first vw deals service ,to find it out ,and they were charge me just to looks up. I felt really disappointed,. I need help I'm driving so afraid every single day.
Broken clock spring air bags not working with light illuminated.
Airbags errors.
Vehicle was serviced September 2015 for recall regarding defective clock spring/ poor clock spring design. It appears that the vehicle had a clock spring cover installed to prevent damage. It appears the clock spring is now faulty. Vw dealership confirmed other vehicles that had said services done noticed the clock spring maintenance performed improperly, leading to further damage. Defective clock spring was confirmed by the dealership. It has been a week and vw keeps dragging their feet on giving us information on what they're going to do. We have been severely inconvenienced due to the fact we are down to one car. If we choose to fix the vehicle now, vw will refuse to reimburse us. We have to leave the vehicle at the dealer and wait for them to decide what to do before we can do anything.
I received a safety recal 69l2 stating that the steering wheel clock spring in my 2012 Volkswagen Passat could fail. The clock spring did fail and was repaired in 2015 under the safety recall. On oct 5th 2018 the steering wheel clock spring failed again and Volkswagen refused to repair it under the 2015 recall. With a broken clock spring the driver air bag is disabled. The horn is disabled and all controls on the steering wheel are disabled. The steering wheel clock spring broke as I was making a normal right hand turn into my driveway.
I received a recall notice on my car 14 months ago, and immediately got it fixed. The recall was for my steering wheel clock spring- this affects my horn, airbags, and hands free phone option. I got it fixed in July 2017. 14 months later (today) it broke again. This is an obvious fault on Volkswagen's part. Because its after 12 months, they will not honor the broken part and fix it. I would have to pay out of pocket for the part that cost $300. 00. This a safety issue, and I am afraid my airbags will not work, let alone my horn absolutely does not work. Volkswagen should honor this issue, and make an exception, since it is a two months difference.
Clock spring failure resulting in airbag, steering wheel control, and horn malfunction. This seems to be a big issue with other vw owners by doing a simple google search.
When we took the car in for the takata recall, service dept. Told us the clockspring needed to be replaced. After being charged more than $400, we looked into it to discover that it had been replaced under a different recall in 2016. Upon further investigation, we found that many other vw owners have experienced the same thing. We'd like to be added to the list of customers who didn't receive adequate repairs under safety recall #69l2, and to find out what the status is on the NHTSA investigation into this matter.
The airbag clock spring was replaced under a recall in February 2017 but failed again in may of 2018. From what I am seeing on the internet this seems to be a common recall failure with this vehicle. Vw customer care and its warranty dept will cover the cost of a replacement part but not labor.
Clock spring was changed in 2016 and takata recall airbag was changed in March. After the airbag was replaced I heard clicking noises when turning my steering wheel and now my airbag error light is on. My horn doesnt work and my buttons to control radio do not work. I brought to dealership where the takata recall was done and they diagnosed it with open broken clock spring and power steering gear broken. They do not want to take responisbility for the clock spring since it was changed in 2016. I have made a case with Volkswagen against this particular dealership.
Steering wheeling clock spring has failed following recall repair, Volkswagen refuses to cover, quoted me $1,500. 00.
The contact owns a 2012 Volkswagen Passat. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 18v148000 (air bags); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable, and was on national backorder. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that the part was on a national back order. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Got a recall on clock spring in 2016 had it repaired. Went out and light is now on. Told I have to replace the whole clock spring for over $500. I was told it happens, but I just saw that there is an investigation. Dealer told me that I am responsible.
In March of 2016 our clock spring was replaced due to a NHTSA mandated recall. In October of 2017 our airbag was replaced in the takata recall. In January of 2018 the horn started malfunctioning while turning the steering wheel and at times while going straight. This occurred while we were traveling out of town. Fuse was pulled and then replaced by dealer when brought in for service. Couldn't duplicate issue. Same issue occurred end of April. Brought in for service and they informed us the clock spring was broken. It was not under warranty and would be $741 to fix. We declined. We feel this should be covered since a recalled replacement part has failed again in less than two years.
When backing out of my driveway, I heard a loud pop come from the steering wheel column. Immediately following, an alarm came up for "airbag error". Also, all other functionality on my steering wheel was disabled, including the bluetooth access, radio buttons, etc. I contacted my vw dealership (boucher vw in racine, WI) and they stated that the issue was the airbag clock spring and that the air bag is not functional if this alarm is active. I asked if this was covered as a part of the recall (I believe the recall number is 15v-483) and they stated it was not and that the estimate for the repair would be approximately $550. I asked why this was not covered as a part of the recall but was not provided an explanation. I will follow up with this question when I take the car in for service in the next few days.
There was a recall on the 2012 Passat on 8/4/15 for the airbag clock spring, which provides power to the airbag. The recalled part was replaced on our vehicle in Jan. 2016, it went out again in Dec. 2017 and now the manufacturer says it is not covered as the part is only warrantied for 1 year. Really?? you replaced one junk part with another one and now won't stand behind it. What happens when there is an accident and the airbag doesn't deploy while my 17 year old daughter is driving the car. Really sad way of doing business, this repair should be covered by the manufacturer no questions asked.
Clock spring failure again after recall was done.
Takata recall not repaired.
Recall was issued Feb 2016, dealer says no parts are available to repair. Car is potentially dangerous!.
While driving on the city streets, I heard a pop like a fuse went out. I noticed my horn did not work, the functions on the steering wheel are not operable and my air light came on. This happened prior on 9/16/2014 which the clock spring was replaced.
Takata recall it has been a long time since the recall and replacement part is still not offered. I am concerned for the safety of my family.

Takata recall. As of 6/26/17, I have not received a second recall letter to inform me when to take the car in. After calling the dealership, I still have no idea when the airbag will be replaced. Is there a class action suite in process regard the takata recall?.
Takata recall I have been unable to get a recall repaired despite my repeated efforts and contact with vw customer care. I am in the military and current reside in italy. Vw dealers have refused to repair this recall and the response from vw is that they can't help until the car is returned to the us. Unacceptable.

Takata recall hello, I have been contacting vw for a while now to repair my airbags. I do not feel safe driving my car. I received the first notice that the airbags were under recall, but notified that there was nothing they can do about it. I asked for a loaner car and I was rejected. I also asked for vw to buy back my vehicle and I was also rejected. In March 2017, I received an another notice asking me to schedule an appointment with my dealer to have the issue fixed ASAP. I called to schedule an appointment and I was notified that they do not have parts in stock and they cannot schedule an appointment for me. I called vw back and told them about my concern, I do not feel safe driving my car and I cannot sell it because no one wants to purchase it due to the safety concerns about the vehicle. Vw told me that there is nothing they can do to help. No loaner car and no repurchase. I asked what should I do since an 18 year old drives this car and you are stating that it is not safe to drive, the response was, give us a call if anything happens. They pretty much said that everything is in accordance to NHTSA guideline. Can you please help me?.

Takata recall: I have been trying to get my recall fixed by the dealer and I have been waiting a few months now and still have not been able to make an appointment with the dealership. They have me on a waiting list but I am tired of waiting. I want the recall problem fixed. I do not feel comfortable driving a car that has a hazardous issue.
"takata recall" I found out about this airbag safety issue and reached out to vw and spoke to a care agent who told me that there's nothing they will do about the issue and this is the position in which the company stands. I feel that they should be accountable for choosing this vendor and that everyone driving vw vehicle be reimbursed for money being spent on a financed vehicle or vehicle they have purchased that's being affected. We buy cars that fit our personal needs. Family size, gas saver etc. We already take a risk in driving anyway so why should we be told to wait until the the issue is resolved knowing what the potential outcome could be. If the safety of the people were as high as they intend us to believe then this issue would be resolved by now regardless how many affected. It all boils down to money with the people being second. I don't feel safe nor do I feel my family is safe driving a vw vehicle knowing such hazard exist. To be told there's no one else to speak to after your concern has been reviewed by a case manager just won't do. This issue needs to be addressed now while people can afford the concern. No one should be injured due to a vehicle malfunction. Vw as well the other auto makers need to be accountable for this poor choice in vendor selection and do what's right for the consumers of their products.
Takata recall. Volkswagen dealer advised they cannot fix the problem as they have not yet received the proper parts. I was advised to call back in "3-6 months", despite the seriousness of the recall and the potentially life-threatening risk.
