- the contact stated that while driving the 1999 Volkswagen pasaat with 113000 failure mileage at 60 mph the vehicle began to accelerate on its own. The vehicle accelerated up to 75 miles. The contact rode the brakes for approximately 5 miles, then noticed a safe place to pull over. The contact was jamming on the brakes to get the vehicle to stop. The vehicle came to a complete stop , and the contact turned the vehicle off. The vehicle was restarted twice, but the vehicle was still revving high. The contact was told to pull up on the brake pedal, and that was the remedy to get the vehicle to idle properly. The vehicle was taken to the shop, and they could not duplicate the problem. The contact was afraid to drive the vehicle.

Throttle lag. When turning into traffic, sometimes the car lurches forward instead of easing forward. The throttle should be adjusted so that softly pressing the pedal moves the car instead of having to press the pedal hard (which leads to the dangerous lurching).

Regarding the incident of reference, reported under odi number 10146004, I have to say that I received a letter from the auto maker, Volkswagen of America, dated January 11, 2006. It is my opinion that such letter does not address the fundamental point of the security and safety of the Volkswagen vehicle that I leased. In this letter, Volkswagen admitted "concerns" on some of the vehicles they manufactured and their inability to properly address those "concerns". I request the assistance of NHTSA in pursuing this matter as an issue of safety and defective production of a Volkswagen automobile that may prove to be fatal because its malfunctioning has already provoked an accident. Please, advice on the course of action I should take versus Volkswagen of America.

While driving 45 mph vehicle accelerated without warning. No impact reported.
Manufacturer's fastened car mat ends exactly where the accelerator pedal meets the floor when fully depressed and caught the pedal. This causes the car to continue to accelerate.
Car has twice, spontaneously and forcefully (july10 and July 12), accelerated as I removed my foot from the accelerator to prepare for a stop. Dealership service cannot evaluate the problem until July 22. Service rep can't tell me whether it's safe to drive the car, because she has no idea what may have caused the problem. There are several incident reports on this website, describing exactly the same problem, and in one case there was an accident-related injury. I'd like to see an evaluation of this problem in this particular model (vw 2001 Passat v), just to see how common it is, and to determine if a service recall is in order.

While driving automobile accelerated to 7000rpm and to 50 mph from 35 mph. Foot was not on accelerator. I pulled over to the side of the road and placed the auto into park. After a few seconds the engine again raced to 7000 rpm wiithout having me place my foot on the accelerator. This is very dangerous.
My volkswagon Passat has many times lunged forward when I took my foot off the accelerator. I have fortunately not been close to another car when this has happened because it could have easily caused a rear-end crash.
While driving the throttle would sticks and causes the vehicle to accelerate. Consumer states loss of control has almost occur while trying to decelerate. Dealer notified. Provide further information. Mr.
While stopping at a traffic light or a stop sign vehicle would not accelerate when the driver was pressing on the gas pedal. Consumer made contact with the dealer on six occasions, but problem is still occurring.
While driving about any mph stepped off gas pedal and vehicle would not decelerate. Stepped on brake pedal, and vehicle will slow down. As soon as let brake pedal go, vehicle will accelerate again.
The position of the brake and gas pedals makes it possible for me to nudge the gas pedal while braking. This has never been a problem for me on other cars in close to fifty years of driving. I,m reporting this on the chance that you might find a pattern of like occurances.
