2 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 01/19/2025

I was on top of beech mountain nc working at a customer's house when it started to snow. I was at the bottom of their driveway and when I attempted to drive out, the traction control light would turn on, indicating I was losing traction. When this happened, I was unable to accelerate any more and the car started sliding backwards. So sitting in the car in the snow, I pulled up youtube to figure out the "procedure" to disable traction control so I could get more speed. Turn the car off, ignition on, activate the flashers, push the brake pedal multiple times, then start the car. Traction control disabled, so "simple"! the only problem is once the car starts moving traction control gets enabled again and I'm sliding backwards again! extremely dangerous on a mountain! eventually I was able to clear the snow enough and just hold down the accelerator to power out. So now my gps is telling me I have to drive up a hill to get off the mountain. Same problem: I start up the hill, traction control kicks on and I lose all power and begin to slide backwards! luckily I am a good driver because I was able to control the slide and do a 180 in the middle of the road. So my gps tries to reroute me and sends me up a different hill! same exact result! I eventually had to just ignore my gps entirely and just manually look for a road that was heading down hill. I thought for sure I was either going to wreck because of the traction control or be stuck up there in a snow storm! not having the option to disable traction control and leave it off so that I could get uphill us very unsafe! the worst part is I didn't even realize my car didn't have the option to disable traction control until I was already stuck! if I'd known that, I would have taken my truck.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 08/01/2024

Air bag error light is on and steering wheel controls/horn are inoperable. Cause is most likely a clock spring failure as has been reported in numerous vw vehicle models including the 2016 vw Passat but the current recall 69l2 doesn’t appear to cover our vehicle. With recall problems on numerous other vehicles, it is hard to believe this isn’t caused by the same issue. Repair cost is estimated at $900 for an item that should be covered by vw.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 06/01/2024

Clock spring on vehicle has failed. This is a known issue with many vw vehicles, but I have been told my vehicle is not on the extended warranty program. 2017 vw Passat - approximately 150,000 miles. This eliminates all steering wheel controls, horn, cruise control, and air bags.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 02/05/2024

Timing chain issues, motor oil circulation problems, that Volkswagen has recalls out for 2. 0 cc turbo 2013.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 01/03/2024

While backing into a parking spot there was a crunching sound in the steering column. Following this noise the air bag light came on and all steering wheel control buttons nonfunctional including the horn. I reached out to a Volkswagen dealer as I had seen recalls for the clockspring, I was told my vehicle was not included in the recall. This is a 2017 Passat and had approximately 130,000 miles when this occurred. The closest dealer is over 2 hours away, and the service department is only open Monday-Friday.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 09/10/2023

First/only owner of a 2018 vw Passat gp r-line, scheduled maintenance intervals followed religiously and performed by vw; only filled with top tier fuel (mid/premium), no prev. Indicator lights ever illuminated until ecm light (no accompanying warning lights) came on while driving at highway speed with adaptive cruise control engaged. Immediate loss of power and shaking vibration upon any attempt to accelerate/change lanes to safely get off of roadway. Once off roadway, all systems shut down and engine turned off for several minutes. Restarted car w/o difficulty, remained parked for 5 more minutes to monitor ecm light which did not return after shut down/restart. Returned to highway while safely merging into lane with conservative acceleration. Ecm warning light did not return and vibration/shutterring had ceased. No unusual or abnormal gas mileage readings found upon close monitoring. Vehicle was driven x3 (relatively short distances) with speeds no greater than 65 mph; no return of ecm or any other warning lights. On the 4th drive, while attempting to evade an idiot, accelerator was applied more aggressively so as to avoid a near-catastrophic collision (nowhere to slow down or go to shoulder safely within 0. 75/sec) which triggered the ecm light accompanied with loss of power/shuttering/vibration when pressure applied to accelerator. Pulled over, shut down, waited, panicked a little, then restarted engine. Ecm light did not reappear after shut down/restart. Vehicle operated flawlessly once more. Injector/fuel system cleaner added to fuel tank and driven 40 mins in sport mode to burn corrosive buildup effectively. Fuel tank refilled at new fueling station (thinking bad gas was a differential) and no issues since. Codes not showing up when diagnostics are ran. Vw won’t fix something that isn’t presenting itself as a problem, at that very moment. 93k miles w/ no prev. Engine/emissions/transmission probs.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 09/02/2023

The three issues above seems to be related or affect the other and does not allow cruise control to operate. The air bag light remains on and associated component light up the dash. Surprisingly, my VIN does not show up for air bag repair. I wish I did not have to wait for possible recall announcement for my vehicle before I can get it repaired and instead to fix it now. Frustrating.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/21/2022

I was taking an exit ramp onto the highway when my car just started accelerating on its own. I pulled onto the highway and was cruising at 55 mph. The car then jerked a little and started to accelerate past 60 then to 70. I pressed the brakes and nothing happened. My car then accelerated to 80 mph. I continued pressing the brakes to try to slow down but nothing happened. Then I heard a loud crack sound and all of a sudden the car started to slow down. That is when I realized it had actually shut off. So I pulled to shoulder and had it towed to a mechanic shop. It turns out the road hazard that I ran over was probably what saved me from serious injury or death. It busted my oil pan and that is what caused the car to shut off.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 09/23/2022

Volkswagen has had a history of failed clock springs in which they have not resolved. 2017 Passat with the following items not working due to failed clock spring. Airbag, horn, cruise control, and all steering wheel controls which impacts vehicle safety.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Passat

Airbag error notice and cracking sound when turning steering wheel. Error light for cruise control, front end assistance. This is the second time this has occured. It was previously fixed in 2018.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 04/04/2022

Clockspring. Failed 1st time under recall and was replaced by dealer. Failed 2nd time and replaced outside of recall by indepenent. Failed 3rd time and has not been replaced. This has affected the adaptive cruise control, the electronic stability control, and now it engages the brake system when not called for.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 03/22/2022

* driver air bag, horn, all controls in steering wheel. * not having a horn or working air bag * yes, defective clock switch has been confirmed-this was a recall, was replaced and failed again * no- dealer/recall repair center only * no, air bag light came on and that was it. At that moment nothing worked this occurred in March 2022. I was told it would take 1-2 months to get the part. The part is still unavailable. Called vm customer care-they instructed me to call the dealer. The dealer has no control over parts coming from vw. Now driving 8 months without an airbag or horn. All controls in the steering wheel are inoperable. Most are convenience items. Air bag and horn are safety issues.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 02/09/2022

The airbag light is on. It is an orangish color. The controls on front of the steering wheel do not work. That means the horn, cruise control, radio controls, voice controls do not work.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 01/20/2022

My seat belt unfastens whenever it wants and my cruise control doesn’t work any longer. I also have an issue with the 4th injector which causes the car to accelerate and I had to replace the transmission as well.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/06/2021

Catastrophic safety issue many of the warning lights on the instrument cluster are illuminated. These include: * abs is steadily illuminated. * airbag is steadily illuminated. * the speedometer is not functioning showing "0" so I can't tell how fast I'm going. * the steering system indicator light is steadily illuminated. * check engine/engine malfunction is intermittent. * the electric power control indicator is intermittent. * esp/asr is steadily illuminated. * the alternator indicator light is intermittent * tire pressure monitoring is steadily illuminated. * the fuel gauge is moving ranging from empty to full therefore the low fuel indictor flashed frequently. * several times when depressing the accelerator instead of gaining power, acceleration dropped off. In traffic, at highway speeds, this is an additional serious safety issue. I have made no modification to the vehicle other than regular maintenance and new tires. I took the car to the local dealership where the on-site technical advisor speculated that the wheel speed sensor was at fault. This did not build confidence.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 10/01/2021

I was driving this particular day through a busyfour way stoplight intersection around time school was dismissing so 3:30ish pm. And I lost all power to my vehicle with just the battery light flashing once. I barely made it out of the I intersection and to the shoulder of the road as there was no power steering and I had to pump my breaks to stop. I called the local police and let them know it would be towed tomorrow morning. The tow bill was 100 dollars and I had replaced the battery thinking it was the problem. The brand new battery drained in two minutes tops after install alternator was tested and fuses were in working order all except for one that went to my12 volt charging port which was replaced as well as serpentine belt was replaced with alternator test. The battery still drains instantly and when speaking with volkswagon suntrup in sunset hills st. Louis which is the nearest Volkswagen dealership about 30 minute drive my car still is under a dealership warranty for the national emissions recall that was just fixed after I purchased the vehicle. The dealership refuses to come get/ fix/ diagnose or rectify vehicle although admitting to knowing this year has parasitic draws instally killing a brand new battery even while driving was/is a very dangerous situation for me and my family. This car has been sitting in my drive way now for 6 months while nothing is being by vw and I am without safe or working transportation for my family. Ive also been told by vw. That they cant find some parasitic draws and are confused as me!.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 02/03/2021

108k miles. Got off of work and I went to start the vehicle. I started the vehicle the battery light started to flash and the check engine light came on and started flashing I just did a quick loop and put it right back into the parking spot that I was in. I took it into a shop they found that the starter was getting way too hot. They took the starter out and put in a new one and when they went to start the vehicle the engine seized.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 10/25/2020

Check engine light and epc light suddenly came on during acceleration around 40mph. Acceleration dropped and idle is rough. Check engine and epc light and rough idle with no acceleration occurs every time vehicle is started. Obdii codes show misfire. Online forums show similar cases with no consistent reason or fix between 30k and 70k miles.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

While driving the vehicle it will loose driving power, check engine light will come on as well as epc light. When taken to a mechanic it was found out that the whole throtke body needed to be replaced. I was also told that this was a dealer only part, when the mechanic shop called to order the part from the dealership they were told that the part was on a national back order and that it could be 6 months to a year before a part was avaliable. When I called the dealership a week later the part was still on back order, and they said that they had over 200 on a list waiting for this part, and to keep calling back to ask about the status. I have not been able to drive my vehicle since July 2020, and as of today 10/22/2020, accordinf to the dealership there is still no estimated timeframe that this part eill be available. I fell that if there is that many that if they do in fact have over 200 waiting for the part then there must be somthing defective with the current part that is on the vehicle.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/20/2020

Vw repaired clock spring (a recall) after airbag warning, steering wheel controls stopped working. Vw returned the vehicle to me, the customer, with the clock spring supposedly repaired yet steering wheel buttons, including cruise control and others, remained broken and unusable. Vw wanted several hundred dollars to fix this, despite the issue obviously being directly related to the clock spring as all buttons were in working order prior to the clock spring issue. (dates below may not be entirely accurate as this happened several years ago and still has not been repaired, however I was unaware I could file a report here).

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 03/24/2020

The heater core in these cars are horrible I've had mind replaced 3 times and I have to get another heater core and my car floor is full off water and it keeps leaking and the way the sound when your taking off I noticed that sound like a Mini weed eater when you press on the gas.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/13/2019

I was driving on flat paved road at speed of 25-30 mph when suddenly the rpm surged from 1 to 4, engine revved, made loud high pitch whine for several mins. I was not accelerating, only following another vehicle ahead. I was going to pull off the road and turn off the ignition, when this stopped & continued driving normally and noted the rpm was back to near 1. No panel or engine lights came on.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 08/26/2019

I experiencing a fuel distribution issue. It appears to be fuel injection system. My car sputters and misfires while driving. The engine readings are constantly changing. The engine idles high while it is stationary. When I accelerate to go up a hill or incline my car sputters uncontrollably. I have replaced the spark plugs and number of other parts but the problem persists.

Failure Date: 08/02/2019

The steering wheel controls stop working the horn no longer works after the recall on the airbag they fixed in the steering wheel.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 07/20/2019

The shifter has been replaced twice on the vehicle; the first time in warranty (2018) and the second time this weekend where I needed to pay out of pocket. (June 2019) at random times, the service shifter message appears and the entire shiftier panel lights up. The car accelerates by itself and sometimes the car jerks forward especially when the car is in park or I am on the brakes. In rush hour highway traffic, bumper to bumper traffic or local traffic same thing. I can be doing 20 mph or 75 mph and the error message appears. I reported this to my rick hendricks Jeep dealer and they said they seen it before as well as napleton in florida. I also looked online and see that multiple 2016 -2018 Jeep owners reported the same issue once the car is more than 10,000 miles. The car changes gear by itself.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 02/25/2019

Had to replace the comfort control module along with untold amount of wires due to water damage. After being parked and turned off the windows roll. Down the alarm is disabled, the doors unlock. While driving lights go. On and off doors lock and unlock emergency flashers go off and alarm will go off. Can't unlock car without setting alarm off.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 01/30/2019

Loss of airbags, power brakes, power steering, transmission shifting functions, engine hesitation. Indicator lights on dash flash or stay on steady include: coil, steering wheel, air bag, abs, image of car skidding, brakes, and tire inflation. The speedometer does not work and the fuel gauge just keeps sweeping. The rev limiter does not work either. The auto start feature is non functional and the push button to stop the motor from running must be pressed twice instead of once. Car had this discrepancy on 30 Jan 2019, 06 Feb 2019, and now 27 Feb 2019. The dealers keep working on a grounding nut but the problem keeps persisting. Problem has always accursed immediately after starting the car, not while driving.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 01/24/2019

My father was heading home when he stopped the hill down from his house. Upon trying to accelerate he noticed the vehicle did not want to go. The engine had stalled/hesitated. He pressed the gas a few times and nothing happened, the rpm ha d was the only thing moving. Then, all of a sudden, the vehicle sped off and he lost control of the vehicle because this happened at the beginning of a curve and he couldn't regain control of the vehicle and slammed into a telephone pole which broke his neck and back. There is something wrong with these Passats. My brother and his wife have told me that their 2018 Passats do the same thing (hesitation/stalling).

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/14/2018

I had reported the issue to vw verbally and service department basically advised I will have to place it on the machine to run a diagnostic test that is not covered. I did not have the funds but they said if it happened again let them know. It did several occasions after that all the way up until 3 days ago as of 09. 26. 19. It is kinda hard to report things to west broad Volkswagen service department when they are rude and unfriendly and make a customer uncomfortable. I like only speaking to mr. Frank in sales when I have an issue because he goes over and beyond. If it wasn't for him I would be very uncomfortable asking or going to that department. When trying to back up the camera doesn't come on it takes a while or it blanks out at times. Also when pulling off my vehicle is slow also advised that. I had a loaner car and it drove better. Mines has a lot of noises and sounds.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 10/12/2018

I was backing out of a parking space with the car in reverse. I lifted my foot from the brake and started to apply the accelerator at which point the vehicle accelerated to full speed and hit a staircase rail behind me. I then slammed the brake and put the car into drive to avoid reversing into anyone. I applied the accelerator and once again it accelerated forward at full speed, this time hitting a concrete column which disabled the vehicle.

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 09/13/2018

2016 Volkswagen Passat, driving in the rain and the car slowed to a near stop and could not ascend a small incline on interstate 95 southbound at or about stratford, connecticut. The car was towed to a local vw dealership in stratford CT. When put into gear the engine shook violently and there was no power. When in park and neutral the engine was fine and could be "revved" without issue. The dealership told me that the wire connection between the "tcm and icm' has "water damage" and that when they disconnected those wires there "is signs of corrosion on the seal" ?.

34 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 09/12/2018

I was braking my car as I was pulling into a parking spot which was perpendicular to a divider strip (an approximately 5-6 foot wide strip of grass with 9-10 inch curbs on each side). Suddenly the car self-accelerated to a fast speed. This caused the car to go up and over the divider strip, cross a two lane road and hit the curb on the far side of this road. This was quite frightening! fortunately, there was no traffic at this time on the road on the other side of the divider strip but a significant amount of damage was done to the front bumper and underside of the car. While the car was in the shop for repairs a broken gas pedal was discovered. This was the cause of the self-acceleration.

35 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 08/09/2018

Car stalled and stopped from full motion to reduced speed.
