Twice, on may 12 and on October 22, while in a parking lot and pulling into a vertical parking spot at very low speed, I tapped the accelerator, and suddenly the car rapidly sped up. I was unable to stop it with the brake pedal, and I hit a brick planter the first time it happened, and I hit the post holding up the front of a building the second time. The brake pedal on the Passat is approximately 3" wide and located only an inch or so from the accelerator. It is possible that I hit both pedals while trying to stop the vehicle, but that does not explain the sudden acceleration that caused the car to jump the curb and hit the planter and the building. Frightening situation. I wasn't injured the first time but was fairly well shaken up the second. The body shop said the damage to the vehicle was almost exactly the same each time. I took the car to t he vw dealer after the first accident, but they said there was nothing wrong.

The contact owns a 2015 Volkswagen Passat. While the vehicle was stationary with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle accelerated rapidly without warning. As a result, the contact's vehicle rear-ended another vehicle. The contact stated that the failure recurred a second time, but there was no crash. The air bags did not deploy in the first crash. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was driven away from the scene. The dealer was made aware of the failure, but could not diagnose the cause of the failure. The dealer test drove the vehicle in stop and go traffic and determined that the vehicle was in good working condition and was performing as designed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that nothing was wrong with the vehicle. The vehicle was tested a second time after the failure recurred, but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The failure mileage was 6,175.

On 1/19/16 I experienced a serious issue while driving my 2015 vw Passat. As I was pulling into a parking space after my 12-mile commute to work I applied the brakes. No stopping occurred, in fact I experienced a sudden unintended acceleration. While my foot remained on and continued to press the brake pedal, the engine revved and the car lurched forward. I attempted to put the car in neutral and tried to apply the emergency brake but was unsuccessful in stopping the vehicle. My care came to rest only after hitting the curb and a masonry wall/hand rail. Once the vehicle came to a stop, I put the car in reverse to assess the damage. I assessed the damage to the front end and tried tor reposition the car in the parking space only to have the same event occur again. The following day I called the dealership to report the incident and was instructed to have the vehicle towed in for inspection. A loaner was provided. Twenty-one days later, on 2/8/16 I received a call stating that no manufacturing faults were found and that vw will not agree to repair the damage or discuss any concerns related to lack of confidence in the vehicle. Furthermore, when asked about arbitration, I was informed that my only recourse was calling vw corporate. When my husband called as instructed, we were informed that vw's position was decided based on their lack of manufacturer defects found. Vehicle remains at dealership. No inspection reports were offered, no damage reports or estimates provided.
2014 Volkswagen Passat. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle unintended acceleration. The consumer stated he and his wife experienced the failure on three separate occasions, when preparing to park. The first two incidents occurred while pulling into his driveway. In each of the first two incidents the vehicle suddenly surged without application to the accelerator pedal. The third incident, resulted in damage to the vehicle, when his wife pulled into a parking spot. When she took her foot off the accelerator to brake and park the vehicle, the vehicle accelerated over a curb and hit the wall of a building. The impact caused the air bag to deploy and caused over $5,000 in damage.
Passat began to accelerate under no pressure to pedal. Passat started to accelerate fairly slowly but steadily at first, then it increased. It wasn't possible to decelerate/no pressure on the brake pedal stopped the acceleration. It began to reach an unsafe speed then I began to downshift and to apply the brake in sequence to slow the Passat, then I tried to slow the vehicle to coast it onto the shoulder, but the speed remained too high to halt the car. Having no other way to slow the vehicle, I started to downshift and to apply extreme pressure to the breaks, and was able to slow the vehicle enough after several miles of downshifting and riding the breaks to reach a point at which I could shift the car into neutral, then began coasting it up a long driveway while the engine continued to race and rev. I then dropped the car into neutral and engaged the emergency break, then forced the trans into park and shut the Passat off. The front breaks were both glowing, with the driver's side having burst into flames as a result of the friction and heat from having ridden them for several miles. Shop that examined the Passat assessed that the throttle body control module had failed and wasn't communicating with the main on-board computer, and that this type of problem had been seen before on other Volkswagen models of the same era. Technician indicated that this was the third time that he'd seen this failure. It apparently usually results in the car coming to a stop although there are other cases customers reported that resulted in the uncontrolled acceleration that I experiences. The breaks and other internal components were significantly damaged as a result of the accident/throttle body failure, and the vehicle had to be scrapped. Someone should research this further as this is a potentially fatal issue. Please contact me if any further information is required to investigate.

The contact owns a 2007 Volkswagen Passat. While approaching a stop, the engine began to rev and the rpm needle increased. The vehicle was in drive and the brake pedal was depressed at the time. The contact placed the vehicle into park and turned off the engine. When he restarted the vehicle, it seemed to operate normally. After a few days, the failure recurred. The dealer stated that the cause of the failure was due to a recall on the engine for unintended acceleration. The vehicle was repaired, but the contact was unsure of what was actually repaired. Three weeks after the repairs were made, the failure recurred, the vehicle jerked forward and crashed into the bumper of the preceding vehicle. The dealer was notified and the vehicle has remained there ever since. No repairs have been made yet because the diagnostic results indicate that nothing is wrong with the vehicle. The VIN and recall number were unknown. The failure mileage was 11,434.

: the contact stated while driving 10mph and attempting to come to a stop, the rpm gauge needle gave sporadic readings. While the rpm readings were inaccurate, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the brake pedal went to the floor and the vehicle did not stop. The contact was forced to down shift and use the emergency brake in order to get the vehicle stopped. After the vehicle was restarted, the engine revved. The vehicle was shifted into gear and suddenly accelerated. The vehicle engine was quickly shut off. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and currently is under going additional testing.
As consumer entered the parking lot, the vehicle all of a sudden accelerated, consumer had no control over the vehicle and subsequently crashed through some large boulders and into a ditch, the side airbags deployed, however the front air bags did not, consumer suffered injuries. Mr.

I have owned a vw Passat v6 4motion since March of 2002. There have been many minor defects including electrical problems and paint. The one defect of importance is a throttle delay. When depressing the accelerator, there is a delay in response, especially while making a left hand turn. This problem has developed over time and worsened and now the steering also whines when making left turns. It feels like the pedal is hard to push, but then the car suddenly accelerates. . At "mid range," there is no problem with the throttle. The dealership has attempted to remedy the throttle problem. There was some improvement after replacing the throttle body assembly in 1/03, but the problem has worsened again. During a test drive in 4/03 the service manager acknowledged the problem, stating that it needs to be fixed. Last word from the dealership was the Passat naturally has a throttle delay- in other words they are not able to fix the problem. 4/03, I sent paperwork initiating a lemon law buy back.
