42 Power Train problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 12/10/2019

Drove car without problems. Came back an hour later and it started, but engine was shaking. Moved it across parking lot and shut engine off. Next time I tried to turn it on, would not start. Took it to mechanic, said that timing chain broke and ruined the rest of the engine. Did research and found this to be a common issue with vw engines. Faulty timing chains are used which cause catastrophic engine failure leaving driver at risk if this happens when driving. Even when not driving, the possibility of such a common occurrence from one of their products failing and ruining the rest of the car is unfair to consumers and Volkswagen should be held accountable beyond warranty liabilities for any of their vehicles that this happens to. They should not be allowed to build faulty engines and leave consumers to foot the bill for their shoddy designs and workmanship. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.

44 Power Train problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 10/04/2019

I have owned this car for beraly one month. 2 days after purchasing the 02 sensors went bad. 1 week later my pcv valve went bad. And 2 days after that my car stalled on me while driving down a canyon and would not start again. I lost control and ended up on the side of the road. I though I was going to kill myself. After sitting there for about an hour the car turned on but was extremely shaky and would stall the minute I slowed down or came to a stop. I managed to get the car to a repair shop only to have the engine die on me. The car cannot be turned on or moved. I was told it might be the timing chain which is a common issue in this engine. I'm being told I need to practically replace the engine which will cost more than what the car is worth. If I try to turn the car on. It hesitates a lot and once it turns over it immediately shuts off. I have beraly made 1 payment on this vehicle and it already died on me. Was excited about such a nice looking car only to have fall under the lemon car category in my opinion. I am now left with a car payment. A huge repair bill and no mode of transportation all due to Volkswagens faulty design.

45 Power Train problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 10/01/2019

Car hesitates erratically and unpredictably when accelerating most noticeably from a dead stop, and at slow speeds while turning. Attempting to accelerate from a stop to cross a street in busy traffic the car will just sit unresponsive for seconds and barely accelerate and then unpredictably accelerate. Due to the vehicle being the r-line, it drifts all over the road. I have had 4 wheel alignments on the car with only 6400 miles on it.

46 Power Train problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

Tl-the contact owned a 2014 Volkswagen Passat. The contact brought the vehicle into the dealer prestige Volkswagen of turnersville NJ 4271 e black horse pike, turnersville, NJ 08012 (856) 629-9200 for recall repairs. They found two other recalls on the vehicle. After they drove the vehicle home, the epc light came on the vehicle. The dealer said to bring the vehicle back and stated that the vehicle was low on oil and the contact disputed that fact. The epc light represented an issue with the trottle. After two days the epc light came on again. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who had the vehicle for two weeks. The dealer wanted to charge $600 for a part to monitor the oil level. The contact reminded the dealer about the epc that was a trottle software issue. There was a dispute and the manufacturer told the contact to take it to another dealer. The contact took the vehicle to another dealer cherry hill Volkswagen 2261 NJ-70, cherry hill, NJ 08002 (888) 486-1840. They diagnosed the issue and replaced a part that had to do with the oil level. Two weeks later the epc light came on again and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. They called today and said that the newest repair would cost $800 to fix and they could not guarantee if this would fix the issue. The manufacturer had done nothing but document what has happened up to this point. The manufacturer offered to loan $800 to pay for the latest repairs if the contact would get a CO signer. The contact called the attorney general's and checked into the lemon law but with no results. The failure mileage was unknown since the dealer had logged the mileage in as 169,720 when the contact saw it was under 100,000 on the odometer. Tf.

47 Power Train problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 07/02/2019

My vw Passat 2009 sustained engine failure due to failure timing chain/timing chain tensioner and now needs very expensive engine repair or replacement of engine. Car drove okay for 15 minutes in the morning then it was then parked for about 2 hours. When trying to re-start the car, the car would not start. Mechanic noted absent compression in 2 cylinders and diagnosed it to be due to timing chain slipping. This happened at 80,000miles and less than 10 years (9 years 9 months) of purchase of the vehicle. Vw's extended warranty covers repair/replacement of timing chain but does not cover repair of engine damage resulted due to timing chain failure. The car was serviced at vw dealer regularly and there was no warning or indication of impending failure of the timing chain. Other owners of vw vehicles have also complained of having identical problems on online community with some people complaining of engine stalling while driving. This appears to be a defective design rather than wear and tear due ageing and I feel that vw should recall the affected vehicles to repair the problems.

53 Power Train problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 08/13/2018

This is my 2nd time writing only because the problem seems as if it may be more then just one thing! thinking it was ecm or something electrical, now may be the timing chain or fuel pump or combination of all! the car just randomly shuts off! on the highway, or at a stop, or just at cursing speed! some times it comes back on, other time it turns over and shuts right off again! I noticed a lot of people having similar problems with this make and model, also noticed a recall for exact symptom my car has, and for the same make model and year as my car but my VIN is not listed in the recall??? hope something is done to fix this situation soon so that I can remain a loyal volkwagen customer!.

54 Power Train problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 08/10/2018

3 different occasions my car would loose power and shut down on the highway. I had it towed and all three times they stated it was different things and that they had to take steps in replacing good parts to find the bad ones. Just to find out that it was the fuel pump control module that they thought it was the whole time. Now there is a recall on it. Which I have summitted the paper work and they conveniently cannot find. This past weekend my car wouldn't turn over at all when I tried to start it in a parking lot so I had it towed for the 4th time in 2. 5years. They are claiming that the engine motor is bad and it would cost $7500. 00 to replace. The technician cannot find any oil leaks nd claim there was only about a half of court of oil in the motor. I had the oil changed less than 2 months prior and both Volkswagen and my mechanic said that there is no way it could of run for that long on half a court of oil and should hold 5. 6 quarts. Which leads to the motor eating so to speak the oil. ( a bad engine) although I spent over $20'000. 00 on this vehicle and have had all these issues Volkswagen is telling me that they will not help at all with repairing the engine. That I will have to eat the $9000. 00 still owed on the vehicle. Words cannot describe how disappointed I am with the customer service by Volkswagen.

55 Power Train problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 06/14/2018

Driving and the transmission falls out of gear. Also had it to where the transmission would not shift from 1st gear. I have to pull over put vehicle in park turn the car off and restart. Sometimes it will run fine others have had to pull over 3 or 4 times before I could get back home. Started looking on internet on carproblemzoo. Com and there are many complaint of the same problem. Some started with only 20k miles on the vehicle. This his a safety issue especially when your driving 35 mph or faster.

56 Power Train problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/23/2018

Timing chain elongated heard light noise and around 60000 miles I have been taking it to dealer I even asked them to let me know what all is wrong with car at 90000 miles never said anything until switch dealer at 110000 miles tells me that it may fail at anytime and will cause engine to loose power.

57 Power Train problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/21/2018

On may 21, 2018, I was driving to work. I stopped at a gas station, and when I went to leave my car died. I had the car towed to quirk vw in manchester, nh and they told me that the engine was blown. They told me that it had jumped time and valves of engine most likely have contacted pistons, etc. Needs engine and turbo assembly. There is a known timing chain tensioner lawsuit out on these cars. Luckily this did not happen on the highway and there was not a deadly accident.

58 Power Train problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 05/11/2018

Regarding recall NHTSA bulletin 14v182000 - my 2014 vw Passat is experiencing the same issues outlined in the bulletin outline above however, it appears my VIN does not correspond with the manufactures recall. I have a o-ring that is faulty and has created a leak between the oil cooler and transmission. Based on the recall it could result in a vehicle fire. I believe the issue regarding the seal is expanded beyond the manufactures criteria and should be expanded to cover all 2014 vw Passat. Please note this was leak was identified by the independent service station. The dealership indicated this was a rear crank seal leak, not the case.

59 Power Train problem of the 2008 Volkswagen Passat

65 Power Train problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 10/16/2017

Have been getting steering lock malfunctions when trying to start the car for about two weeks. Today, the steering wheel locked while driving. Unable to steer the vehicle at all. Was able to stop and turn the vehicle off. Seems this is/ was a common problem for this model Volkswagen and a voluntary recall was available until 2013. Unfortunately, the previous owners of the car never did any recalls or even remembers ever being notified of any recalls. This problem is one of many for this model. I called Volkswagen and they were no help. This is a major safety issue. My 17 year old son drives this car. I cant allow him to drive it now after this. How can Volkswagen allow this? they basically dont care if we crashed and hurt others because of this issue. A voluntary recall for a steering issue?? does that sound safe??.

66 Power Train problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 10/14/2017

Periodically while driving, the seat belt light will come on, the the driver's seat belt will lose tension. The push start button has be pressed multiple times in order for the vehicle to start. I receive the error message on the dash, "key not in range" when the key fob is on my person. The built-in traction does not handle well, because the weight distribution is not 50/50. There is entirely too much body roll for this vehicle. The 2013 Volkswagen Passat 3. 6 sel should have been manufactured as an all-wheel drive, and a hard body. The transmission is sluggish between 1st and 2nd gears. I used to own a 2005 Volkswagen Passat glx v6 4motion, and it was a much better build quality than the 2013 Passat. The quality of Volkswagen Passat is in major decline, and is not the same as it was in the early 2000s.

67 Power Train problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Failure Date: 07/22/2017

The car's transmission is listed as "automatic", however it jerks on slow speeds and slowing down. This performance is described in the dsg diagram from the automotive technology web site. It also appears that this manufacturer (vw) was the first to design this an automated manual transmission, it was not approved by the nhsta. This transmission should not be classified and then certified as automatic. The buying public should be notified if their vehicle has this alternate transmission. The jerk and lurch of the vehicle is problematic if the driver loses control at the event that the transmission is actually at fault. There is no grind in the gears like a traditional automatic to indicate malfunction. This occurs at every start, stop which makes it the regular performance for the vehicle, but how does the owner know when things are not. Occurs stopping at lights. Following in slow traffic. Driving up hill. Parking.

68 Power Train problem of the 2014 Volkswagen Passat
