On 01/24/25 around 9pm I was leaving a friend house headed home. I took the i76 route home because it's faster. As I'm getting off on my exit, coming up on the first stop sign I start pressing down on the break pedal and all of a sudden the car engine shuts off and comes to a sudden seizure like halt. I put on my hazards lights instantly, put the car in park and proceeded to to start the car again. After like 10 failed start attempts. I decided to give it a rest and that's when I realized that there key would not come out the ignition, I had to turn the ignition back and forth twice before it was released. After that I waited about 25 minutes, and have it another shot but this time I stepped on the gas while attempting to start the car and it came back on. I went home parked and since that day the car won't turn over but everything still comes on. There are no codes, showing, no damage to the car at all it's still pretty much new. Vw says there nothing they can do because my VIN is not on the recall list but I'm literally experiencing the same mechanical issued that are listed on the recall for my exact model. Can someone please offer me a solution that doesn't involve me paying for an issue that is listed on recall for free repair!!!!!.
I bought this van just a few weeks ago. One day I was driving and all a sudden it lost power while in motion. This has happened 4xs so far. It could've resulted in the inability to stop my vehicle as the brakes are stiff after the power & engine stop working. It could've resulted in either I hit someone or someone could've hit me. My cousins husband had a town and country that did this & it was on a recall for the ignition switch failure. He's a mechanic. He has also stated what is going on is the ignition switch failure going into accessory mode while I'm driving. It's available to be inspected I just don't have the money to have it inspected at this point by a dealership.
The contact was helping her friend who owns a 2010 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the check engine and stability control warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was a recurring failure. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer and was informed that the vehicle was built by another manufacturer. The contact was then referred to another dealer. The contact was advised by the 2nd dealer that the vehicle should be taken back to the first dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 11v151000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Battery failure due to parasitic draw from ignition iod fuse ( j13fuse) reads 0. 9 draw and m11 fuse ( hvac system) reads 0. 6 draw. First occurrence 2/10/24 and second occurrence 2/11/24. Informed auto repair shop on 2/12/24 and goes in for diagnostic 2/15/24. Abs control module failure( intermittent ) egr valve replacement (8/9/24 due to overheating but no warning lights due to overheating was displayed which is strange) speed control sensor was replaced as well 8/9/24 but still has problems getting stuck or not reading the right speed . Consumes fuel faster than normal as well . Getting about 9 miles to the gallon.
The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the instrument cluster failed to function as intended. In addition, the contact stated that the turn signal and the speed control failed to function as designed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The failure was troubleshooted; however, the failure was not diagnosed. In addition, the vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the failure was not diagnosed. The contact stated that neither the independent mechanic nor the dealer was able to diagnose or determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact stated that after researching, the vehicle was known for electrical system failures. The contact referenced an unknown recall with a similar failure description; however, the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
All electrical gauges randomly go on and off, there is a continuous beeping to go along with it, the windshield wipers will go on and off. It seems to happen more in the summer or if it’s raining. It will occasionally stall while doing this, especially in a stationary position (like at a drive through).
The key for the key switch is loose and can fall out in any position. Can come out in the off ; start; run; all positions. The van falls within the right timeline for the key switch replacement recall; but I am told it does not have the right VIN #. Can you explain to me why I can not get my defected switch replaced and others can? my VIN number does not determine if the switch is bad?.
The tipm is not working and while driving the headlights turn off. This is very unsafe and impairs the driver.
The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the headlights failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the totally integrated power module (tipm) needed to be replaced; however, the replacement part was no longer manufactured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.
The contact's son owns a 2010 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated that the vehicle would intermittently fail to start after multiple attempts; several waring lights would appear on the instrument panel. The contact initially called the dealer and was informed that they no longer work on that model vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed her that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
While driving the car the car shut off causing an issue with the steering and brakes. This is the second time this has happened. In trying to duplicate the issue, with the car in park and running we were able to duplicate it by wiggling the key fob while it is in the switch. We were able to do this 3x. We search out a recall notice for our year, make and model related to this issue. When we called our vw dealer we were informed that our vehicle does not have any open recalls. We contacted vw customer service and we were told the same. Our particular VIN was built in the middle of recalls related to this exact issue and no previous repairs were done. The customer service rep could not see a reason why ours is not covered but that they go strictly by the VIN. Our vehicle was built 03/2010 and the recall numbers we are reading are 15v194000 and 11v151000. We are experiencing the same issue and our vehicle was built within the recall period so I want to understand why ours is not part of the recall for this issue.
We bought the 2010 Volkswagen routtan on July 2021, the engine shutts off suddenly. We took it to the dealer and no one knows what the problem is. I was checking the value of the car and found a safety recall in June 2011 and another recall on 04/01/2015 we don't know if they took the vehicle to fix the problem. There has been 2 safety recalls NHTSA campaing 15v194000 on April 2015 and the one on March 2011 NHTSA campaing 11v151000 both has to do with the electrical system:ignition:switch.
Car shuts off while driving, ignition key fob issue recall. Tipm system recall.
The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph the vehicle suddenly stalled. The contact lost power steering and brake functionality. The contact stated that numerous warning lights were illuminated and blinking. The contact was attempting to maintain lane when the vehicle engine restarted and the contact pulled off the road safely. The contact turned off the vehicle and then restarted it and all functions had returned. The contact drove the vehicle to a dealer, and the dealer did not diagnose or repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 11v151000 (electrical system). The contact stated that the failure was a recurring issue. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 188,000.
This has happened multiple times. The ignition will cut off which make the car engine quit running. Loss of braking, steering, power has left me in the middle of intersections being nearly avoided being ran into. When this happens all the warning lights come on and the engine turns off. The exact problem vw recall number 28h1 is affecting my vehicle.
The vehicle turned off in the drive gear. I lost steering, breaking and control of vehicle.
The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would shut off without warning. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 15v194000 (electrical system) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer to be inspected. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.
Hi - I have a 2010 vw Volkswagen that has an issue with headlights intermittently working, which is very hazardous and also the windshield wipers randomly turn on and the car was intermittently starting (now won’t start at all since 7/18/2021) among other things. Car appears to not be starting due to fuel relay with tipm. The intermittent headlights is very dangerous but corrects itself in a few days so mechanics haven’t been able to figure it out. This car is related to the several Chrysler models from 2010-2014 (it states Chrysler on various parts of my vw Routan) that had a recall for issues with the tipm box, which appears to be the issue with my vehicle. As far as I can tell the same recall was not issued for the Routan. Why? I’ve found many similar descriptions of Routan owners that have had the same issues I have and these go back to the tipm. Will there be a recall? there is one of many links detailing people with the same issues/concerns. . Read more...
The contact owned a 2010 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked in the driveway, the vehicle independently caught on fire. There was no crash nor injury due to the fire. The air bags did not deploy. The fire department was contacted and was able to extinguish the fire. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not towed. The contact had an independent mechanic inspect the vehicle and deemed the vehicle as a total loss. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
The tipm is failing which is a common issue with the vehicle make/model. My particular vehicle was not covered under any recalls, however, I have the same tell tale tipm failure issues as all of the cars that were part of the recall. My lights intermittently work which causes a safety hazard. They will either not turn at all, will turn on and start flashing, or will appear to be working as normal until I'm driving and then they will flash off intermittently. This puts anyone in my car as well as oncoming traffic at risk when my lights malfunction at night. The airbag warning indicator light also flashes off and on as well making me think that it may be failing whenever the tipm is not functioning properly. The door locks and windows have also locked/unlocked and opened/closed at random (even when the vehicle is off and has been parked with the power off for hours). I spoke with the mechanic about all of these issues and he verified that it was likely a failing tipm and that it is a well-known issue with the Routan. My vehicle is available for inspection any time. Volkswagen and Chrysler know that this is a common issue and yet they have put their customers in danger by not recalling all of the affected vehicles. I am not sure what date to put as the date of incident as this has been ongoing since I have owned the vehicle. I put the current date (as it happened just today) and mileage, however, please understand that this has been an ongoing issue for years and Volkswagen has failed to include my vehicle in any recalls even though this is a well-known issue.
My vehicle cuts off within 5 minutes after driving at speeds between 20 to 40mph (usually required in neighborhoods and school zones). Steering wheel locks up and vehicle power cuts completely off. No warning or lights indicating the shut off!.
The 2010 Volkswagen Routan will randomly shutoff. The vehicle has shutoff with and without auto-start and while parked and while in gear moving. There is no indication of a problem. During a failure, the keyfob is in the on position and the drivers electrical display goes blank with no indicators. To restart, the keyfob is rotated back to the off position and then to start. The vehicle will operate normally until the next failure which could be minutes, hours, days.

The whole electrical system has gone out while driving in limestone county alabama. Keys don't start it none of automatic doors will open.
When car is running, either in park or drive, the engine cuts out. We must wait 30 sec to restart. It will then restart. This action happend both when the car is in park and drive. The action happened once in our driveway and once coming out of a carry out driveway.
The electric rear sliding door has become stuck shut and no power goes to the door. The key becomes stuck and the ignition and are unable to remove it. There have been recalls for the same make and model with these issues, but there are no recalls for these issues tied to our VIN.
Drivers side sliding door will not open. I've tried all kinds of ways to open it and it will not budge. Also, when driving, car shut off with no warning.
It turns on all the lights on the dashboard saying it needs auto assist service there is no problem with it the dealer cannot take care of it because they don't take care of Volkswagen Routan no more.
The engine stalls as the vehicle is driven and it locks the steering wheel. This happens while car in motion, noticed a previous recall for this issues however it seems to be happening again and I don't think my VIN was included in recall.
The engine stalls as the vehicle is driven and it locks the steering wheel. This happened about 8 times within the past 24 months. We discovered that 12,000 and more Routan 2009 and 2010 have been recalled for the same problems with some fatalities reported due to this defect: ignition moduls and electronic moduls. Vw and gm-Chrysler are not supporting the vw. Dealer repair/replacement as my vw Routan seems not having been tracked down during initial recalls.
Started having a key fob issue around 80k miles. Ignition would not turn off correctly causing battery to drain. Spoke with vw informed me no recall. Issue escalated to the point that the key fob will randomly eject from the ignition while the car is running and in motion. Sometimes the car will lose power and have to be pulled over and restarted. Obviously this is not safe while driving down the highway.
The car intermittently dies, sometimes when hitting a bump. Traction control lights up, engine shuts down, and of course, power steering gone. This has been happening for 3-4 months. Most recently, the lightning bolt safety light lit up, which relates to a electric throttle control light, or etc. That disappeared, then the check engine light lit up. That also disappeared. The ignition key inadvertently moves into the off or accessory position, the engine will turn off, which will then depower various key safety systems including, but not limited to, air bags, power steering, and power braking. Loss of functionality of these systems may increase the risk of crash and/or increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash. Electrical system ignition switch.
2010 vw Routan VIN:[xxx] we purchased the vehicle used in November of 2018. From November 2018 through early 2020, I experienced the car turning off while driving it about once every 4-6 months. When researching this issue we found that extra weight from other keys or keychains could be affecting it so we separated the car key from my house keys. This showed no improvement. From early 2020 through early 2021, the issue increased in frequency. Instead of once every 4-6 months it became once a month. And, unfortunately in the past 3 months, it has started occurring several times a week (sometimes multiple times a day). This has been a safety concern for our family and we are very nervous that this could cause a serious accident. Luckily the other vehicles around us when this occurs have been alert drivers that were able to give us the extra time to restart our vehicle. We realize that this won’t always be the case and need to get it fixed. The issues we are experiencing as outlined above are in line with the issues listed in NHTSA campaign 11v151000 for other 2010 vw Routans. However, for whatever reason, our VIN number is not included in the recall. I would like to make a formal appeal with NHTSA that our vehicle be included in this recall and that it be repaired by vw as it is quite clear that what we are experiencing is from the issue in this NHTSA recall campaign. We are disappointed to be in a position to fight for something to get fixed that is quite clearly caused by a defaulted part, but remain hopeful that this will be resolved in a timely manner. My van shut down while driving for the fourth time. I was slowing down to a stop at a light and the engine lost power and I lost power steering and brakes. This has been happening much more frequently now than before (with 3 times in the last month). My van is not included in win module recall as the VIN is a couple of digits off. This is very frustrating and scary.
My van shut down while driving again. I was slowing down to make a turn and the engine lost power and I lost power steering and brakes.
