1 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

Our 2010 vw Routan rolls back severely on even a slight incline when in drive or reverse. The dealer's tech agreed it was abnormal and the service manager thought so, too, but, according to vw specs, it is "normal. " we fear that on an incline stop, such as at a stop sign, it will roll back and hit the car behind us or any person/object behind us. When in reverse on an incline, we fear hitting someone/something in front of the car, because of its propensity to roll forward. There is not enough time for one to get one's foot from the brake pedal to the gas to make it safe enough to drive. The company has conveyed to us that our only recourse is through the dealer, and we've done that with no satisfaction for our safety concerns. They say "they all do this," and if that's the case, we believe they are "all" unsafe.

2 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 10/26/2010

The car failed to slow down or stop when applying pressure to brakes at traffic light. Had to turn ignition off in order to have car slow down and than eventually stop. Also failed to back up when pressing gas pedal at first and than jumped into gear when foot was released. The check engine light went on and it was taken to be fixed. The codes that came up were po731 and po935. Waiting on parts to come in. Also, the tire sensor on the car was defective. I have been waiting for 43 days now. I have asked for the parts from Volkswagen now to save the parts two times.

3 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 10/23/2010

Just over 2 months after having my 2010 vw Routan, on at least 5 occasions I started the car and it immediately turned off. I also noticed the transmission seemed to be struggling every once in a while. I eventually took the car into the dealer service department and they told me they were unable to find anything wrong. Today, which is about 1 week since getting the car back from the dealer, I was driving on the highway with my 3 kids in the back and while driving the engine turned off with no warning. It was as if the car was in neutral all of a sudden. I was able to pull over to the side of the highway and turned off the car. It then turned back on.

4 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 10/04/2010

On Monday, October 4th, 2010, I pulled into my driveway and placed the 2009 Volkswagen Routan in park. The engine was still running while I finished up a phone call through the bluetooth and proceeded to listen to the radio while cleaning out the van. I walked around the exterior of the vehicle leaning in to clean the interior of the car. I needed to go inside the house, so, standing outside driver's side of the van I reached across the seat to turn off the engine and remove the keys. As soon as I did this, the van jolted backward and continued to travel down my driveway. My upper body was still inside the car. I tried to depress the emergency brake with my right hand while I held tightly onto the steering wheel with my left. I wasn't able to stop the car but I was able to turn the wheel so that the van crashed into a tree on my property, instead of going into the street. When the van hit the tree, the force threw me out of the vehicle and onto the driveway. I was taken to the hospital by my husband where the found that I had broken 2 ribs, sprained my left shoulder and sustained extensive soft tissue damage. I also suffered several cuts and scrapes and numerous bruises. At this point in time, nothing has been done to correct the failure.

5 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 09/03/2010

The contact owns 2010 Volkswagen Routan. The contact stated that the transmission and steering goes out on the vehicle. The vehicle will stop while driving at any speed and the steering will fail. If the vehicle is turned off and re-started the transmission will work, but the vehicle will continue to shift very hard and there is a loud banging sound and it feels like someone hit the vehicle. The vehicle gives no warning before the failures occur. The dealer has inspected the vehicle and stated that they cannot find any problems with the transmission. The failure mileage and current mileages was 659.

6 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2010 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 09/02/2010

I purchased a 2010 vw Routan in may 2010. I have had multiple issues with the vehicle since that time - electrical issues with the sliding doors, transmission not shifting correctly, the vehicle's strained ability to back up when stopped/parked on a decline. The only issue which has been satisfactorily addressed to date is the sliding door electrical issue. My most pressing concern, however, involves a stalling issue which occurs without warning and without any particular pattern. On September 2, 2010, while traveling on the interstate at appx 60 mph the vehicle stalled out. Fortunately, my husband was driving and was able to pull the vehicle to the side of the road. Once stopped, the vehicle restarted without trouble and we were able to reach a safe location to call the dealership. The dealership has been unable to identify any problems with the vehicle as they say the "diagnostic tests" show nothing is wrong and that it is operating according to the manufacturer design. I purchased this vehicle in large part to the vw high safety rating, yet, I am not convinced this vehicle lives up to that standard. I previously owned a vw passat prior to the purchase of the Routan and was very pleased. However, I cannot say the same about my experience with the Routan. A vehicle that stalls without explanation is a safety concern which I would hope would be investigated and addressed immediately.

7 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 08/02/2010

I have had my Volkswagen Routan for about a year and a half. In that time the transmission has gone out twice now. The first time was at 6k miles and it was at the dealer for 2 months before it was fixed. There was every excuse in the book, first they didn't have a tech qualified to fix it so they had to wait on an out of state tech to come in. Parts were backordered and when they came in the "fix" didn't work so they had to order a new transmission. Now at 15k miles I started having more problems with the transmission and the rear power folding seat was broken. I reluctantly took it back to the dealer but was assured that they would be able to fix it in a short amount of time. That was a month ago, and it is still not fixed, they are waiting on parts to come in. Volkswagen's customer care is no help, they say they are working on it but the only thing they have done so far is apologize.

8 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 09/03/2009

My 2009 Volkswagen Routan slipped into reverse while I was behind it today running me over and causing a leg injury.

9 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan

Failure Date: 05/15/2009

The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Routan. While the vehicle was parked with the key in the ignition, the rear door opened and would not close. The contact turned the vehicle off and restarted it; the door then closed. She stated that once a child's hands got caught in the rear door. The vehicle was taken to two authorized dealers seven times; once the dealer vacuumed the channels where the pulleys were located. The doors hesitated after but did not stay open. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic for brake issues as the brakes were grinding and was informed that the rear drums and rotors needed to be replaced. The transmission hesitated and the seams were separating on the rear portion of the front seats. The vehicle had not been repaired. There were five recalls for the vehicle but the repairs had not been performed. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000 and the current mileage was 26,000.
