I want to make you aware of a situation that I experienced with my daughters new 2022 Tiguan VIN [xxx]. We were driving in very windy conditions with light rain. I lost temporary control of the vehicle. There did not seem to be enough water for hydroplaning although that's what it felt like. This SUV was very difficult to regain control of despite only going 60 mph when the loss of control occurred. I am an experienced driver that spent most of my career in sales. I drive a lot in the worst of conditions and traffic. I could barley keep this vehicle on the road. That night on the news we saw a report of a meteorologist student that was killed due to an accident caused by hydroplaning. Guess what type of vehicle, vw Tiguan. Not feeling it was a safe vehicle for our daughter to continue to drive, we traded it in. We received a recall notice from vw. A broken rear suspension knuckle can cause a loss of stability, increasing the risk of a crash. This could very well be what occurred. Or possibly the auto braking system kicked in without cause. The torch during braking was strong enough to make everyone in the car sore for a few days. Thankfully we did not hit any other vehicles on the road around us. We went back to the vw dealership where we purchased the vehicle from to trade in or sell back the vehicle. We suffered a great financial loss for trading in this new vehicle to Subaru. Well worth it for to protect the safety of our daughter. The issues with the Tiguan's' needs to be looked into closely because on a busy highway at 60mph if my daughter would have been driving the outcome I believe would have been much worse. Very scary! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

While driving car gives error messages: driver door contact switch, then drivers window and drivers side passengers window rolls down 2 inches. With in a few seconds get error start/stop, and a few seconds later fault: electronic parking brake. When I slowed to a stop the parking break engaged and stopped the vehicle. The only way to move the vehicle is to turn off and restart. Upon restart you can disingage the parking break and move the vehicle from the roadway.
Driving on clear road with sunny skies when vehicle break system warning light came on and vehicle suddenly and without warning began breaking. The sudden breaking of the vehicle with no reason or cause surprised me and put me in a dangerous position that could have resulted in an accident. Luckily the vehicle behind me was far enough behind where it was able to break without rear ending me. There was no warning that the vehicle had sense something on the road (none which were visible to me) before slamming the breaks. I will be reporting this to the dealer, but it has occurred twice before and I’ve always been told they don’t see any issues on there side, only been told to write down time, road conditions and location where it occurred so they could look into the system next time.

My Tiguan is doing the same thing as the atlas. I have been told by the dealer and the vw representative that did a physical inspection of my vehicle. That the issues are the same. I was doing 70 mph on the highway all the dash lights went on and then the breaks engage bring my vehicle to a complete stop. This was in March of 2021. Vehicle was taken straight to dealer I was told then what was happening. And was told the issed was resolved. Then in January 2022 the vehicle did the same thing once at a low speed, and again that same morning going 30 mph, were the truck behind us did everything he could to avoid hitting the vehicle as my vehicle came to a complete stop. I was the front car and thankfully the truck behind me was the only other vehicle on the road. I pulled in to a parking lot, I attempted to back up and the vehicle would not go in to reverse. I had to have my vehicle towed to the dealership where has sat since January. They have not been able to repair the unit. As they are waiting for a wire harness for the door. Vw corporate has been notified and is not been helpful at this point.
The automatic emergency braking activated and slammed on the brakes, for no apparent cause. There were no cars, people, animals around. And luckily, no car was behind mine. This has happened numerous times previously, especially when going through roundabouts and downhill. This issue needs to be addressed by vw. I have mentioned it to service at a vw dealer, and they just tell you to turn off the front brake assist, but that is not a solution. Plus, you would have to turn it off every time you start your car.

While driving 25mph with no vehicles or other obstructions ahead, the vehicle forward collision warning audibly warned of an imminent crash, displayed a visible indicator on the dashboard screen, and applied strong braking force for about 2 seconds as I had been accelerating slightly. There were vehicles directly behind mine which may have collided with me if I had stopped suddenly. There was no risk of a frontal collision. This occurred as the vehicle was driving on a standard asphalt road and approached a red brick style crosswalk (there were no pedestrians). This has not been reproduced or inspected by law enforcement, a dealer, or others. There was no warning prior to this event.
Emergency breaking activate when passing construction zone or taking curves on the road and sensors reads barriers or cones and locks the breaks and emergency breaking warning comes on dashboard. Horn not functioning in high humid climates.

This car burns oil. I am adding at 1-2 quarts of oil every 2-3 months and I only have 24k miles on this car. I've had an oil consumption test completed and they said that its falling just with in normal limits. It's unacceptable. Additionally, the emergency braking system is faulty, it will register shadows or on a slightly winding road will register on coming traffic and slam on brakes. I have had cars blowing their horns and swerving from behind me in order to avoid a collision. I had that check as well and their advise was to disable it. What?!? so either I disable a safety system or I get rear-ended. This is a joke and completely unacceptable.
Door latch malfunctions required multiple visits to mechanic to diagnose. Locked and unlocked randomly. As in would lock me out or in the vehicle requiring I use an alternate door (not driver door) to exit my vehicle. Emergency break assist engages in gutters and driveways. Essentially anything that isn't flat terrain may result in the Tiguan slamming on the breaks for you coming to a complete stop. Even when approaching dips, gutters, driveways or different inclines you have a very likely chance of the emergency system engaging breaks.
Front assist goes off for no reason engaging the brakes. Dealership told me to turn it off and fill out reports if it continues to happen. Filled out reports with photos and returned after having my vehicle for over a month they state that the front assist engaging for no reason is normal operation.
Parking brake locks up and renders vehicle immobile- has occurred twice and parking switch has been replaced three times.

My front assist function malfunctioned. I was driving at a speed of 50mph and the car came to an immediate stop. The seat belt restraints almost choked me, and the sudden stop jarred me. There was nothing in the front of me when this happened. I've been terrified every since it happened. It happened twice before, but this third time was the worst. The next morning I contacted vw, and took my car in. They test drove my car. I was told they didn't find anything wrong, and to come pick up my vehicle. I expressed to them that something definitely was wrong. I suggested them do more diagnostics, but they did not. I called corporate and nothing has been done. They did document my claim and gave me a claim number. In the meantime I started doing some investigations. There is a class action lawsuit investigation going on. I also found a youtube video of this incident happening on another vehicle.
I was driving with a friend in car doing speed limit and all of of sudden the red vehicle accident image came on the car shuddered and the auto brakes came on this was the second time it has happened my friend freaked out I bot it in sept 18 and it happened a couple months after that I immediately called vw.
The vehicle will stop itself while in motion through the automatic braking system at random times, both in traffic and when no other vehicles are around. The warning will show up in the gauge cluster and the car will quickly come to a stop. This has happened on at least 4 occasions. The dealer has stated there are no faults.
The auto break feature will illuminate on the dashboard and then send my car to a screeching halt. It takes me on average 5 seconds to regain control of my brakes. It has happened exiting businesses (small curbs) but also on the main streets with no one else around going upwards of 45 mph. The infotainment system that houses the parking and rear view safety features as well as navigation also does not work when the car is left outside in weather above 80 degrees. The ac is also unable to cool when the weather is above 80 degrees all of these ‘safety features’ make the car dangerous.
