I am writing to report a serious safety concern regarding my Volkswagen Tiguan 2020. The dome light in my vehicle has completely broken off, melting the plastic from the screws, and was hanging by the electrical wires. This issue poses multiple safety hazards: 1. Injury risk: while driving, the dome light unlatched and fell and struck me on the side of my head, causing a distraction and injury. 2. Visibility obstruction: when the dome light is hanging, it completely blocks the view through the windshield and rearview mirror, significantly increasing the risk of an accident. I have taken my vehicle to the dealership, and they confirmed that this is a common problem with this model. They have seen and replaced the dome light on many other vehicles of the same model. Despite this being a known issue, there were no warning lights or indicators to alert me to the impending failure. This indicates that the parts used are faulty and pose a significant safety risk. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this issue promptly and consider issuing a safety recall for Volkswagen Tiguan 2020 vehicles to prevent potential accidents and injuries. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter.

My car dash and all electrical components are shutting off while I’m driving! all needles go to 0, radio shuts off, ac/heater, turn signals, brake lights, headlights, ect. The engine seems to run for a moment and then shuts off. Once the car is pulled over to the side of the road (if I make it!) and turn the car completely off and try to start it again, it won’t turn on immediately. I’ve had to sit for 5 -10 minutes on the side of the freeway multiple times on my way home from work as the car would continue to shut down on me. It’s absolutely terrifying. Luckily I wasn’t driving at night and was visible in the daylight and luckily I didn’t have my children in the car with me when this has happened.

Door lock system child trapped inside due to vehicle locking itself with keys in car after putting child in car seat and bag inside. Fire department used a slim jim through window to press unlock button; however, the vehicle would not unlock via interior door button. Fire department had to pull interior door handle to unlock, taking an additional 45 minutes to free child trapped inside. The problem has been reproduced. Without the ignition on, door locks will not attempt to unlock the vehicle unless the vehicle is already unlocked. Dealer confirmed issue and is stating there are numerous low voltage fault codes including the battery and passenger front and rear door latches. Vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturers dealer on 7/9/2024 at fire department's recommendation during incident. There were not any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to or after the failure.

Vehicle sending transmission alarms and also exit vehicle in p mode only alarm. First had issue around 25,000 miles and gear shift assembly was replaced under warranty for what I was told was a faulty sensor. Same issue returned at 100,000 miles and volkswagon is replacing the gear shift assembly again at customers expense. I was told by volkswagon that the car is safe to drive.
It’s happened twice in extreme heat; the first time I was driving not even 3 minutes after starting the car. All of a sudden there was a screen on the dash that popped up and said “ignition off, please stop the car safely”. The car was still able to drive but nothing else was working- gas gauge, speedometer, a/c, radio, etc. The second time happened when I had just started the car. Let it run for about 2-5 minutes and then the dash said “check starter system”. Is still fully capable of reversing, driving but just nothing else electrical working.
While driving the car a message appears " check starter system" and the car stops. This happened after about a quarter mile away of driving after starting the car. This has happened twice on really hot days. The first time it happened the car started back up normally, the second time (today) it did the same shut off three times before I had it towed. I am going to call the Volkswagen dealership tomorrow morning about this. I read online that the 2019 jetta was recalled for what sounds like the same exact issue.
Sos button is erroring out. It won't reset back to green is staying red and showing error: emergency call function. This is a known issue see attached error on my vehicle and a few screen shots others have reported on different blogs.
Vw has only issued an ignition failure recall for 2019 - 2021 jetta's. I just purchased a 2019 vw Tiguan and because the recall does not extend to this model the repair to replace the ignition switch due to a failure that is identical to the jetta is being refused. It is absolutely a safety risk and needs to be extended to include other car models of the same year. I was on my way to a mechanic when I lost all power to the car, the dash lights went out, and the check starter system error message popped up. It was 89 degrees here with overcast and was actually a lower temperature day when two days prior it was 100. Carmax specifically is only willing to replace the starter/alternator because there is no recall notice for the Tiguan. I am trying to get them to fully repair the car to a safer standard, but there is no guarantee without an actual recall for this model.
I currently reside in texas where it get hot during the summer months. I recently got this car back in may. Recently when it’s hot outside my car had cut off one day in traffic and said please check starter system. All electrical components of the car shut off completely. The engine will start run. But the ac, lights, back up camera, windows stop working. I have an appt to drop the car off at the dealership. I been seeing this is an ongoing problem for. Vw vehicles I have seen multiple stories about this happening mainly in 2019-2020 jettas. This needs to be an investigation on vw and this problem.
When the car is parked under the sun on hot days. The car will loose the power and we get message on dashboard "check starter system" when this happens and car is running, it will loose power, no ac, no lights, no brake lights, no hazard lights, speedometer will not work but engine is running and you can drive the car. It is extremely dangerous to drive it that way. Some folks reported that replacing faulty ignition switch resolve the issue but it needs to be properly investigated and issue official recall on all vw models which are experiencing the issue. Its on vw Tiguan, golf, jetta for sure. . Read more...
Overhead console which controls lights, sunroof, garage opener, just fell down. You can see where the glue and the plastic surrounding the screws holding the console up failed and cracked. Console has never been altered, is rarely touched except for light buttons as I don't like to open roof and my garage opener is on my phone. I don't have kids who could have messed with it. Vw is refusing to cover cost of its repair as my 4 year warranty ended 16 days ago. If I had been driving while it happened, it would have caused an accident.
Clock spring in steering wheel is broken. Driver airbag is non-functional, as are the controls on the steering wheel. No driver air bag is a huge safety issue! we immediately "scheduled" an appointment to have this issue repaired. At the appointment, a vw dealer (vw castle downers grove IL) confirmed the issue and noted that this was the subject of a recall (15v483000) with an ongoing & perpetual duty to repair. Despite the recall, the dealer does not have the parts, nor can they provide a date when they might be available (they are "backordered"). We checked with another dealer, and this seems to be a common problem. Also, we did a thorough search online to assess the situation with other drivers/vehicles - this is a common issue! someone (either the dealer or vw) is dragging their feet on this mandatory, potentially life-threatening issue & repair. When will the NHTSA kick vw (or the dealer) in the butt?.

As you own the car for three years, my overhead panel on the roof of the car has attached itself from the car and is hanging in front of the rearview mirror by the cords. There’s also affected the gps and electrical in the vehicle.
The vehicle trunk automatically opens when parked and the doors will unlocked.

On April 19, 2024, I took this vehicle to galpin vw for service on the collision warning system which began to malfunction on a daily basis and would spontaneously come on multiple times throughout the day, without any other vehicles in front of me nor around me. The service advisor at this service center, pedro silva, declared to me and my wife that this vehicle was unsafe to drive and stated that he is in contact with vw and their engineering department which instructed to run additional tests on this vehicle. This vehicle now has been in service for this same issue for 6 days and running, including the previous attempt to fix this same issue at winn vw earlier in the week, which failed to result in any correction. The galpin advisor further stated that he can not release the vehicle to us in this condition and must continue working on this serious issue in which we agreed, since we can not accept such a vehicle in this extremely dangerous condition.
This random, but highly dangerous issue has never been able to be replicated by dealers or myself, but it’s extremely dangerous when it occurs. Occasionally, the car’s speakers will emit a max voltage popping sound that repeats like the sound of a helicopter’s rotors. This sound occurs seemingly at random, and it can happen while the car is moving or not. It’s occurred 6 times since I purchased the car in December 2022. The debilitating sound only stops once the car has been off and all of its systems powered down for about 5 minutes, making it impossible to operate. After some review of forums about this make and model, this is seemingly something that has been reported and never addressed in a recall or anything. Without being able to replicate it, it’s seemingly unable to be addressed by dealers, and I don’t think their knowledge of the car’s audio electronics preclude any sort of troubleshooting. It seems to occur when carplay is connected, but it’s created one of the scariest driving experiences and gives me constant fear that it will happen at random and with my young child in the car (which it has before). This needs to be investigated. I have video of three different instances, but the upload feature will not allow for those file types. Would like to follow up, if possible. Thank you.

Front sunroof drains have shrunk over time disconnecting from drainage port causing massive amounts of water to pool in floor boards. This location is where electrical connections for the airbags are located causing failure for airbags and more. Rear drains were also disconnected due to shrinkage and crimped causing water to pool in trunk. Mold has appeared causing health issues as well.

I was driving and the fuel gauge quit working randomly. I am unsure how much gas is in my vehicle. I have had to get several repairs since purchasing my car from carmax including my turbo boost, fuel pump and gas line. I financed the car in 2021 from carmax.

While driving vehicle spontaneously shuts off with the following warnings "ignition system off. Pull over safely", "check starter". This has occurred more than once when I was traveling over 50 mph and could have led to a severe crash if I were not fortunate enough to have minimal traffic in the area at the time. I have brought it into the dealer and they were unable to identify the cause. Instead, they replaced the battery and front right speed sensor. The problem of my vehicle spontaneously shutting off has only persisted on 4 more occasions after this visit to the dealer.
An sos error shows and when this occurs I am unable to use the sos crash function, as well as navigation and calling. It has been back to the dealer twice for repair but it still occurs. Volkswagen states there is no fix at this time.

The system says ignition switched off. Please check the starter system. Then, all electrical system is turned off. It seems the same problem with 2019 vw jetta.
The vehicle’s infotainment system automatically displays the rear view backup camera, as expected, when placed in reverse. However, this can be overridden by selecting the x in the upper right of the screen or by selecting another function such as the app button. The only way to get the backup camera to display again is to put the car in a different gear/park and then back into reverse. Not being able to see in reverse puts anyone behind my vehicle at risk. There should not be a way to defeat the camera.
The car automatically and inadvertently engages the parking brake while driving, as in approaching an intersection or in heavy traffic on highway. This obviously puts occupants and others at significant risk, as the driver cannot accelerate to avoid a potential collision, the car could be hit from behind, or the car could fishtail if the roads are snowy. It is wintertime and our roads are snowy, so we drive the car as little as possible. This first occurrence was more than one year ago. This initial warning in the car display is "driver door contact switch" error, particularly during cold weather, which precedes a cascade of other electronic alerts and activities described elsewhere, such as errors messages and sounds, and automatic engagement of the parking brake while driving. Some vw models have a recall for this exact problem, indicating that airbag deployment may also be affected: https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/rcl/2022/rclrpt-22v152-3153. Pdf this technical tip for many additional vw models indicates that the proper service procedure (error u019900) is to replace the door wiring harness: https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/tsbs/2022/mc-10206816-0001. Pdf the recall should be widened to include the models affected as indicated in this technical tip!! our local vw dealer (which sold and services the car) claimed not to know anything about this common problem. At our first appt, they replaced the car battery. Prior to our second appointment (each requires ~4 weeks lead time), they said that they would not replace the wiring harness unless the error code occurred while the car was in their possession, despite multiple obd error codes as cited in the technical tip above. The dealer ultimately agreed to replace the part only after (1) I sent a copy of the class action lawsuit; (2) I sent a copy of the relevant vw technical tip; and (3) I said that I would pay for the repair (despite being covered under warranty).
Driving on the interstate with the windshield defrost on due to the winter weather coming from texas into arkansas and the in car electrical turned off and the dash screen said “check starter system” and then told us to safely park the vehicle. All electronics in the car turned off but the car system was still going. I was able to drive the car to an exit and park all with the dash and infotainment system shut off. Thankfully the steering wheel didn’t lock.
An update was pushed to the safety emergency response system for vw vehicles better known as carnet. The update has caused the emergency safety response system to be disabled and now that the car is out warranty the dealership is requiring the owners to pay to repair the module out of pocket although the functionality malfunction was due to the update pushed out by volkswagon.
The contact owns a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan. The contact stated that water was entering the rear seat of the vehicle. The contact stated that the water intrusion had caused a short circuit in the vehicle and the vehicle was driving with reduced engine power. The contact stated that the water intrusion also disrupted the bluetooth functionality. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the gateway control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 21v947000 (electrical system, structure). The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.
Vehicle keeps having all warning lights and warning messages come on whenever the car starts. Warning lights maintain on constantly and has audible beeping to indicate the warnings. Vehicle would also put itself into park randomly at, as well as disengage collision and lane sensors while driving. Vehicle has been taken to the dealership, and has been reproduced by them, stating "we have never seen this before and are not sure what to do, we need to reach out to Volkswagen directly" most recent update, they needed to replace the door harness and f5 module but are still unclear with the status of the repair. Dealership has indicated it's safe to drive if I wanted to pick it up while they figure out the issue.

The read window defroster was not working well. A few days ago, when I turned on the defroster and drove for about 10 minutes, all of a sudden, the rear window made an explosion sound, and windows cracked like a spiderweb. I stopped the car and got out the car and shut the door, the cracked window shattered in pieces. It seems like the heating element overheated as the crack propagated from where the electicla wired were attached.
Overhead console detached dropped down while driving, yes available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? created hazard for front seat occupants. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no.
Airbag error light on dashboard, passenger seat shorted out water pooled under passenger seats front and rear soaking wet coming up through carpets with moldy smell. You tube says it may be the panoramic roof drains.

The windshield wipers have been acting up, turning on unexpectedly when I use the turn signals, with no input from me, or when I drive over bumps, which seriously blocks my view and creates a danger on the road, especially in bad weather or during turns. This problem started showing up in October 2023 when the car had about 16,000miles, still under the 4-year/50,000-mile warranty. I took it to a dealership that month, but they checked the turn signals, scanned for faults, and found nothing, yet the issue didn’t go away. I tried again in September 2024 with another appointment, but the dealership wanted $250 for a diagnostic and to keep the car overnight, so I couldn’t proceed. The car and wiper system can be inspected if needed. There were no warning lights or messages beforehand; the trouble began in October 2023. Only the first dealership looked at it, with no fix. I have several videos showing the problem.
The car lags when you first start it. It starts fine but then lags about 8 mph . It is like it isn’t getting enough gas until it gets past 22-25 mph. It is concerning that it doesn’t pick up speed. This happens daily and every time the car starts.
I made a report on 11/1/19 about issues with my vehicle due to a manufactures defect that the panoramic roof drains did not drain properly and water leaked throughout the vehicle. Please refer to odi# 41277589 and ref. # 238025. This is a known issue with these vehicles and should have been recalled by volkswagon. On September 18, 2023 my daughter got into an accident because the vehicle shut off and couldn't stop. Air bags never went off either. It has officially been determined that there was in fact an electrical short.

Oil change/ low oil light didn’t come one. When car was initially checked due to check engine light being on it didn’t produce any codes. The dealer confirms it needs a new engine and turbo rebuild due to there being no oil in the car. Last oil change was may 29, 2023 at pep boys.
Brand new vw Tiguan. The start stop system has failed since a month after I bought it. When I am stopped at a stoplight, stop sign or in traffic, often the vehicle will completely shut off and die. The dash displays a message that says must "manually restart". So then you have to put the car in park and press the engine start button again. This happens every few weeks at random since I've bought the car. I have had it into two different Volkswagen dealerships for a total of four times. Volkswagen has not been able to fix the issue and in fact they say several times it has not even showed a code when they scan it. It's very very concerning that the vehicle computer/scanner isn't even picking up this issue!!! this is a huge safety concern as sometimes when the vehicle dies I am holding up traffic on the freeway or in intersections.
