Volkswagen Touareg owners have reported 8 problems related to front air bag sensor control (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Volkswagen Touareg based on all problems reported for the Touareg.
In order to flip backseats down to give rear more cargo space the front seats must be moved forward. However when front seats are slid forward more then a few inches the wires for the airbag sensors under the seats are torn and ripped out of place since the harness is to short. This in turn disables the airbags. Vw is aware of this issue and makes customers buy a new wiring harness that is long enough to move seats forward with out tearing to repair the issue.

The 2006 Volkswagen Touareg was having electrical problems. There have been several sensors, from the air bags to the gas cap, on the car that have been going off. What was worst was that the car has been in the service shop every other week this past month. There was a hesitation when accelerating. The manufacturer has been told of this along with the dealership, but the manufacturer stated that the car was running in order of operation. The dealership stated that they were very aware of this concern ,and that it was a software problem that they could not fix. The sensors went off while I driving, and when pulling over to check it. Everything seemed to be good. I have to turn the car off and restart it, and then it resets itself. The light sensors have gone off and both lights have gone out, one at a time. The dealership couldn't find anything wrong with it. The parking brake would be released, and it will still show that it was on.
I have a 2004 vw Touareg. . . . It is a well know problem thought all vw service shops as it was sent out in a tsr? I have owned my vw for 2 yrs 8 months, and have already acquired 78000 miles, I drive everywhere. . . Leaving me out of warranty due to mileage. . . . . I have experienced the airbag issue that you have already reported to vw. . . The driver seat back and forth motion runs over the airbag wire harness causing it to split the wires causing a complete airbag fault. . . It cost me 425. 00 to have this fixed. . . . 12. 00 parts the rest labor. . . . Even the vw repair person I dealt with admitted this is a know issue but no recall has been issued. . . . . Why? is it not safe to assume that your vehicle was equipped with airbags to save your life? is it not absurd to have your entire system not function due to a 12. 00 part that was improperly positioned in the first place? please for all Touareg owners issue a recall. . . . Everyone knows its out there affecting all 2004 Touaregs. . . . Please don't allow anyone to be injured and killed . . . Or wait until it costs them a week or two of pay to have it fixed. . . . This event has really upset me and if it can save just 1 life. . . . Isn't it worth it?.

Vw Touareg 2004. The contact states that the air bag sensor is on; this means the air bags are disabled. The air bags have been repaired once, but it happened again. The vehicle will be taken in to a service dealer today. Also, at 9,000 miles all four tires had to be replaced. The service dealer stated that it was unusual wear from the vehicle, and to contact the tire manufacturer.
My 2004 Touareg with less than 5000 miles has been in for servicing 7 times. The brakes have been worked on and looked at three times. They still squeal but the problem has lessened. Of more concern are the safety issues that have affected me. I have been locked out of my vehicle twice, each time with a different resolution. Updated software was the latest fix. My airbag fault light is now on. Another software resolution is on the way. I have no confidence in the quality or safety of this vehicle or when the next issue will arise. Volkswagen told me my car was not problematic and I had "buyers remorse". I am in awe of their lack of concern especially when I know I am not the only Touareg owner out there with problems.
The drivers side airbag will only work for 2 months at any given time then stops working. I purchased this vehicle new. Every couple of months the censor that indicates that the airbag is not working comes on. I take the vehicle in to the dealer, they reset the censor, they tell me my airbag is fixed, insisting that this time they have identified and corrected the problem. And 2 months later the censor is on again indicating the airbag is not working. I thought this was similar to the check engine light, when it is on the car still runs, with the dealership a 200 mile trip, I was not in any hurry to rush in every time the light came on. After 2 years of this recurring problem the dealer ship told me that when that censor indicates the airbag is not working, the airbag is truly not working, and if my vehicle were to get into a accident the airbag would not deploy. This is a very serious safety issue and vw has been very insensitive and frankly hard to deal with in regards to this horrendous safety issue. With my warranty running out in 5000 miles and they have had my car in the shop for 3 full weeks working on a fix/repair, and once again they have come to me and said that it is fixed, they will not extend the warranty for the airbag. The only reason the company will not stand behind their fix is that it is not fixed and they know it.

While driving vehicle hesitated. Consumer pressed down on the accelerator pedal and vehicle moved intermittently on its own. Srs light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. Consumer drove vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic placed the vehicle on a diagnostic machine. The mechanic determined that the sensor shaft for transmission and engine needed to be replaced. This problem was a design flaw defect. Consumer informed the mechanic this problem was not acceptable and had not been resolved.
Air bag warning light has come on 4 times indicating a failure in the system. Vw has been unable to correct this safety defect despite having the car over 6 weeks total. It is unsafe to drive and they will not replace it or refund purchase price of a 5 month old vehicle.
