Warning Light On Problems of Volkswagen Touareg

My issue started out with the passenger airbag off warning indicator light being on even when an average side adult was sitting in the passenger seat. It escalated to an airbag fault warning light on in the control panel. This light does not go off. Another issue started when I would enter the car and the door signal was suddenly loud and odd sounding. This went on for a week or so then all of the sounds in the car ceased completely. No blinker sound, no lights on indicator, no interior lights, no door open indicator, and no parking brake indicator. Lastly, while picking my daughter up from college, I folded the backseat down in order to fit her baggage. The center seat belt became stuck in the default position. I am unable to get the seat all the way down because the seat belt is locked and it is now snug against the backseat.

Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Volkswagen tuareg. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the front driver's side seat air bags needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. Airbag warning light comes on after changing battery. Local mechanics can't turn it off. Dealer wants large amount to "diagnose" the problem. Several other owners have the same issue with the seatbag warning system coming on randomly. . . Very dangerous. . . And vw knows about the problem. Has been happening for years. The other issue is with the engine. . . The 2004 Touareg engine blew at less than 50k. . . Dealer said we must have driven the car when it was hot. Just nonsense. Several others have had major problems with the Touaregs. . Engine problems and the transmissions/engines surge on slowing down or even speeding up. Tons of problems with the vehicle line and vw America and germany will not do anything about. The engine blew when it was about 100 degrees outside. . We always service our vehicles regularly.

I am the owner of a 2005 vw Touareg which recently had the air bag warning light come on and stay on. I took the Touareg to a Volkswagen dealer where I was charged $104. 48 for a diagnostic test. The diagnostic test provided the stored fault code of 01218, front side passenger airbag ignitor upper limit exceeded, thus recommending replacement of the airbag wiring harness for $320. 00 estimate. It is my understanding that this is a known manufacturers defect that vw addressed with the NHTSA by a Touareg service pack/customer satisfaction campaign in late December 2006 where vvv replaced the subject defective harnesses at no expense to Touareg owners. The vw assistant service manager informed me that according to the vehicle records this replacement was not performed on my Touareg. Please advise why this defective airbag wiring harness was not replaced during this campaign. Based upon my concern as a safety and health professional, and my review of the information and files available from NHTSA concerning the previous investigation of this problem in 2006, I believe that vws failure to continue to correct this problem needs to be addressed by NHTSA for consideration of reopening of this investigation. As stated in the odi resume for investigation: pe 06-022, subject: srs warning light illumination, “…. The agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances. ” I expect NHTSA will request data from vw on how many vw Touaregs have reported, or been diagnosed with this problem since 2006, and how many owners have paid vw or other repair facilities to replace these air bag wiring harnesses and related equipment. The Touareg service pack/customer satisfaction campaign in late December 2006 where vvv replaced the subject defective harnesses at no expense to Touareg owners was an action taken at that time to avoid a recall. The contact owns a 2004 Volkswagen Touareg. While occupying the vehicle, the seat belt warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealership and the technician stated that the passenger airbag needed to be replaced. The current and failure mileages were 88000. Updated 11/23/09. Updated 11/24/09.

The dealer stated that he would have to replace the air bag module at the cost of $3,000. The vehicle has not been repaired. The contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer in reference to the customer satisfaction campaign in 2006 for the air bag wiring connector. The failure and current mileages were 37,000.

On my 2004 touraeg, after tilting the front seats back all the way to the horizontal position, the airbag warning light came on. It turned out that the connectors for the side air bags got disconnected since the cables are too short or are not mounted right. I got the connectors reconnected and now no longer move the seats back in order to avoid this from happening again.

Air bag fault warning light is on. I have not had an accident or been involved in any kind of event that would cause this. Srs ill. Pco.

Air bag warning light came on and stayed on. Volkswagen says they need to develop a new harness. They've had the car for 2 weeks now with no end in sight - no timetable. They did provide a rental car worth half what the Touareg costs.
