1 Brake Pedal And Linkage problem of the 2006 Volvo S40

Failure Date: 03/28/2008

The proximity of the gas & brake pedal is a potential problem that needs to be addressed. This obvious problem was evident the very first time I drove the car. Regular sneakers are noticed, but is compounded when in work style boots. Please research this-.

3 Brake Pedal And Linkage problem of the 2005 Volvo S40

Failure Date: 07/27/2005

On the 2005 Volvo S40 t5 automatic only, the brake pedal is dangerously close to the gas pedal. In fact, a size 9 shoe of medium width will barely fit on the gas pedal while touching the brake pedal. In addition, the brake pedal is about 1. 5 inches higher than the gas pedal so many times the foot will be caught under the pedal. This is a highly dangerous design and is a safety issue. Other drivers have reported this but Volvo is not willing to retrofit the pedals. Please note that the non-t5 version does not suffer from this bad design nor does the manual transmission. This safety defect, if not corrected, will cause an accident for drivers of this specific car. On July 27, I almost got in an accident because my foot got stuck under the brake pedal. While I was able to avoid a collision with another car and almost crashing onto the sidewalk, I strongly believe that many accidents can be avoided if Volvo was to redesign or retrofit the spacing of the gas and brake pedals on the Volvo S40 t5 automatic transmissions. Please inspect the spacing of the pedals as they are not in compliance with minimum standards.

6 Brake Pedal And Linkage problem of the 2005 Volvo S40

Failure Date: 04/19/2005

I own a 2005 Volvo S40 and the gas pedal and brake pedal are too close together. This has caused an issue with my foot catching the brake from behind as I move my foot from the gas to the brake. And if I need to brake immediately and my foot hangs up this could cause a major accident.

8 Brake Pedal And Linkage problem of the 2005 Volvo S40

Failure Date: 10/13/2004

9 Brake Pedal And Linkage problem of the 2001 Volvo S40

Failure Date: 04/24/2001

The brake pedal is too close to the gas pedal in this model. Additionally they are on the same level, that is they are on the same plane when the brake is fully depressed. If the driver's foot is not completely on the brake when it is depressed the gas pedal can be inadvertantly pressed. The distance between the gas pedal and brake pedal is 62 mm (2. 44 inches). I believe this problem is the exact same problem that the Audi was having when drivers thought that they were pushing on the brake when half their foot was on the gas. Having the pedals on different levels avoids this problem completely. Look at the old vw bug with its restricted space. No problem there. I have also reported this problem the Volvo. I would suggest a riser kit to bring the brake up about an inch so the driver has to lift his/her foot up off the gas to depress the brake. I don't want to modify this car since it is so new, the deler will not modify it because of warrantee issues (by the way their mechanic said he had the same thing happen). Could ntsa suggest a modification I can make at my own expense that would address these issues, e. G. Safety and warrantee. Thank you so much for your help on this matter.
