The contact owns a 2001 Volvo S40. Each morning, the brakes would fail. The contact had to leave the vehicle running for approximately five minutes before the brakes became operational. He took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the pump needed to be replaced and the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 03v474000 (service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:vacuum). The current mileage was 67,000 and failure mileage was 60,000.
The recall repair did not resolve the issue. It contiunes to be an intermittent problem and my lead to injury or even a death.

The consumer received a recall letter#03v474000 regarding the electric brake vacuum pump. The dealership still does not have the parts available to conduct the recall.
2000 Volvo S40 would not stop when applied pressure to brakes. Six months after the accident, the consumer received a recall notice in the mail regarding the brake pump. The consumer is now seeking reimbursement for damages incurred prior to notification of the recall. Recall 03v474000.
Volvo model S40 vacuum brake failure. My 28 year old daughter was making a low speed turn at intersection and brakes failed and she hit a telephone pole. In 2003 she was coming to a stop behind another car and the same thing happened. Subsequently they replaced the vacuum pump at the 30,000 mile service on 8/14/03. We just read about recall on vehicles made during 2000.
Brake pad failure was premature due to the added brake force that was necessary to stop the vehicle. The brake pad rivets were scraping the rotors. The consumer needed to use extra force to apply the brakes. The consumer requested a rebate for the amount of repair. The consumer received a recall letter in the mail regarding the issue.
