While driving car, a fire started under the hood near the headlight , flames were flying although car had no engine light and ran great. Pulled over and people had fire extinguisher and fire company came to make sure if was all out. Extensive damage done to car. I am told it should of blown a fuse instead of lighting on fire with my grandson and dogs in the car with no warning. Insurance said it is electrical with the car and will not cover.

The keyless entry failed one by one. The right front first, then the left front door. I went to dealer, ending up paying more than 500 dollars for fixing it. They said that is caused by the poor design of the door handle which allowed the water to get inside and to damage the sensor and wires.

Car did not indicate low oil pressure at any time. Engine seized and stalled on freeway creating driving hazzard. Car was in motion at approx. 65 mpl, started shaking as if a tire had blown. Car started to smell like buned oil, stalled and would not restart. The only alert that came on was the low battery icon after the motor seized.
The heater/air conditioner blower fan does not work. This is not a blown fuse, yet a possible blown resistor and/or failed blower motor. This vehicle is 5 years old and has 72k miles; I cannot get heat or air conditioning due to this issue; windows are fogged often, which represents a hazardous/safety issue. Replacement of the heater blower motor and/or resistor requires the removal of the dashboard and instrument cluster. This should not happen on any 5 year old vehicle, much less a Volvo. The repair is either very costly, at least $700 to $1100 or time consuming if I do it myself. That is several car payments worth for a part that should not have failed. I have owned two older Volvos (1972, 1986) and this part never failed--and if it did, the access was much easier (behind the glovebox).

While driving the car electronics, such as the dashboard lights, and radio started to flicker off and on repeatedly and the engine cut off. I was unable to control the steering and the car came to a complete stop. I waited a few min and was able to start back the car and drive it. This incident has happened 2 times in a 6 month period. The car was recently serviced at around 38,000 miles at the Volvo dealership. The issue started to occur about a month after the car was serviced.
Instrument cluster not illuminating. I understand this is a common issue with 2003 S60 Volvos. Manufacturer needs to recall/repair as this is a significant safety issue when all the instruments go dark and you cannot gauge your speed and gas left in tank.

The dashboard instrument panel and lights go off and come back on whenever. I have had the car for over a year. It was a gift. I just found out tonite from an officer that when the instrument panel and lights are off I have no tail lights. I was wondering if there has ever been a recall. This is very dangerous the date below is it an approximate. I really do not remember the exact date.
Entire dashborad has went black gas gauge, speedodmetor, turning signals and hazard lights.
When the car is outdoors, in temperatures approaching 100 f, the rear (backup) camera flickers or fails altogether.

Dash cluster lights and gauges and turn signal indicator shut down and back on intermittently, motor seems to lose power when driving, and rough idle. The dash cluster problem happens while driving and in the park position.
Car jerks and clunks when switching gears. Its starting to grind and clack in 1-2 gear and I hops around the rpms line crazy.
While driving my 2003 Volvo S60, the dash instrument panel suddenly lost all power w/the gauges/display all stopping. Then it would return and keep working. Then it would do it a different time, continuing in this cycle - randomly shutting off completely so I had no gauges, warning lights, turn signal lights, etc. Just a large black area where the instrument panel is. This was especially concerning at night when I would just randomly loose the display while driving on the highway. I contacted Volvo and they said this is a known problem w/their vehicles (and is also confirmed when looking online for others who have had the same problem). The repair is not covered under any sort of safety recall, and is very expensive. For a mfg whose cars are touted as being very safe, having the instrument panel suddenly stop working so no idea of speed nor any gauges/warning lights are available while driving is clearly not in-line w/safe driving. No other car I've owned has ever had this known problem, especially w/a part not prone to wear & tear like other parts typically are in a car.
Air bags say urgent service needed ,clock going backwards , on board computer going crazy , worried about it catching fire ,tail lights have been replaced 2 times and still they go out right after being replaced.
Driving straight down a road and at a speed of around 40 mph, all warning lights flashed and the engine shut down. After a distance, the car came to a stop and I attempted to restart it. I shifted the car into park and was finally able to get the engine to restart.

Vehicle gauges tend to all go off and all dials go down as if vehicle isn't on. This is a common problem among Volvos and this hasn't been recalled. I was driving at least 70 mph on the highway and this happened to me.
Purchased a brand new 2016 Volvo S60 - the car at incident date had 200 miles on it. While driving in traffic on a California freeway - the car lost all power, steering, lights, etc while in the number 4 of 7 lane freeway at night. The car was blacked out, no lights, no power, no engine, stalled without power in the middle of the freeway. - we were almost killed as a result of this incident. There were numerous collisions that occurred behind and around us as a result of this car being dead in the water in the middle of the freeway at night. I have video from inside the car as 18 wheel semis skidded sideways, almost killing us at 60mph from behind - as well as many other cars. Fast forward to an explanation from Volvo - the dealer stated that the car told itself that it ran out of gas with 1/4 gas in the tank. Stated there was some sort of fuel sending issue and they were trying to evaluate. We still have heard nothing, other than it will be two to three weeks at the dealer - we havnt even had this brand new car that long.
The contact owns a 2004 Volvo S60. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the check engine light illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road, restarted the vehicle, and resumed driving. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 155,000.
By default, the auto stop/start function is engaged every time you start the 2015. 5 vovo S60. The car has about 1,800 miles and was picked up at the end of August, 2015, leased as new. My wife was stopped at a traffic light, on a relatively flat road. The car turned off the engine using the auto-stop/start. When she took her foot off the brake and put it on the accelerator, the car turned off completely. The dash turned off. She had to put on her hazard warning lights, put the car into park and press the stop/start button to start the car. She then was able to put it back into drive and continue. This is not how this is supposed to function. This represents a very serious problem that could result in someone getting rear-ended or not being able to accelerate from a stop in an emergency situation--imagine if an ambulance, firetruck or police car was coming through and you had to move through an intersection or to the side of the road but the car died?.

The contact owns a 2002 Volvo S60. While driving various speeds, there was an abnormal fuel odor coming from the vehicle. The contact observed that the fuel pump module was leaking. The contact also observed that the instrument panel did not display the vehicle mileage. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.
I am surprised there has not been a recall issued for certain model year Volvos relative to the center dash module losing all communication apparently due to failed solder connections (based on chat-rooms, Volvo specific). I understand components can fail, but the sheer number of failures and the failure mode is beyond typical or expected failures. The failure mode causes most or all dash gauges, indicators and lights to fail, including the speedometer. These failures apparently occur randomly, and at any age/mileage.
While driving home after having steering rack replaced the dash lights (speedometer, turn signals, message center, etc. ) went completely out. After multiple drives the dash lights go on and off intermittently while driving.
Driver's side seat started smoking within a few seconds of starting the vehicle while backing out of parking place. Seat heater was on. Immediately stopped and turned off seat heater and smoking stopped. Quarter size hole was burned into the leather seat bottom on the driver's side outside panel. Took it to darrell waltrip Volvo/Subaru in franklin, TN, and they said it was the seat heater and took the fuse out. Said it wasn’t covered under warrantee and no recall out. Hope no one has this problem driving down the interstate. Best regards and thanks for all your hard work, john worrell.
While driving approximately 70mph in heavy traffic, in unfamiliar area and dark, the car experienced complete shutdown of electrical and mechanical power. The shutdown was instantaneous without any prior warning that a catastrophic failure was looming. The driver was without all lighting, power assist brakes or steering. This issue was greatly complicated by not being sufficiently visible to other drivers, prompting several last moment evasive maneuvers while exiting the active lanes. Initially, the car did not respond to attempts to start or to get lights to illuminate. After approximately 3 minutes, the car started and operated normally. Everything had appeared to reset, as if car had battery disconnected after service. This appears to me as a repeat of the complaint filed on the 2007 Volvo S60 dated 7-2-2014, where the owner reported “complete and total electrical failure” four times in about a year. Volvo was notified the next morning of this new example of their horrifying safety issue. I was instructed to take it to the local Volvo service department where the issue could be diagnosed. The car was taken to the dealer and I gave the service adviser reference numbers for both the conversation I had with Volvo and the NHTSA for the complaints I filed. Additionally, they were given the information on the prior complaint describing the same issue. After 1 day in service department, problem cannot be diagnosed. Other than an issue with code/codes, relating to fuel pressure, there is no immediate indication of what may have caused this instantaneous complete engine and electrical failure. Currently, the technician is email corresponding with “people in NJ” to tell him “what they want him to do” our car has 99k miles at time of failure.
Tl-the contact owns a 2003 Volvo S60. The contact stated that the entire instrument panel gradually became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the instrument panel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000. Djr.
Transmission shifting problems oil leaks.
The entire gauge cluster turns off and on when the vehicle is traveling down the road. This is a wide spread problem thats well documented by the Volvo community. The issue is a poorly soldered circuit board on the dim.
I keep getting a message that the tire pressure monitoring system needs service even though the tires have the correct pressure. I believe there is a defect in this safety related system. It is an issue that many Volvo owners have reported, yet Volvo continually fails to address the issue.

Car was in park and running when electrical wires to the windshield wipers caught fire. The bundle of wires are housed in a rubber tube. My understanding is rubber is quite fire-resistant. There have been 5 recalls on this model, two which were related to electical fires. Neither applied to this particular car fire. Local Volvo dealership wants nothing to do with the situation; they send us to corporate customer service and they, in turn send us back to the local dealership . Service manager said he was not a knowledgeable fire inspector and suggested that we hire an expert in that field.
I started my car and where it tells you if something needs to be done to car it said airbag warning urgent service needed. Then later while driving all the gauges stopped working. Now the gauges don't work at all. Plus when driving and turning a corner the car stalls now this has been happening for a couple years now. Plus a couple years ago all my head lights burnt out at once then they only lasted a couple days had to buy more that happened 5 times in one year still have no brights.
Vehicle driver information module (dim) stopped working while vehicle was traveling on the road at approximately 45 miles per hour.
My wife drove the 2001 Volvo S60 and noticed a noxious burning smell and immediately drove it home. She thought it was something extremely wrong with the heater. I drove the car 3 days later and after 3 minutes noticed the burning smell as well. I turned off the heater, and the smell continued. I saw some smoke to my left side and noticed the seat had a hole that was melting and burning. I turned off the heated seat and ensured the seat did not burn further.
Driving car lights on dash board went completely off. Took it to shop they tap it and dash came on again, change fuse . Lights went off again and stayed off.
