1 Engine problem

The contact owns a 2000 Volvo S80. While driving various speeds, the vehicle would spontaneously decelerate. Prior to the failure, the engine and brake warning lights illuminated on the instrument control panel. The dealer stated that the abs module needed to be replaced at the cost of $1,500. 2 Engine problem

The contact owns a 2000 Volvo S80. The contact stated that she was a beneficiary of a class action settlement regarding a defective throttle module in the engine. The Volvo dealer would not repair the failure due to the warranty lawsuit. The lawsuit will expire whenever the vehicle becomes ten years old or reaches 200,000 miles. The failure causes the engine to surge from fast to slow or vice versa. The contact stated that there was no dealer nearby to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but they stated that the computer would not diagnose the failure. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop and they determined the cause of the failure. The failure mileage was 108,000.

3 Engine problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2005

Engine constantly surges forward while brakes are applied. At a stoplight, the car will just suddenly lurch forward. On highway, car lost power and acceleration. When I pulled over, the engine cut off. Dealership told me to the problem was the electronic throttle, which I replaced for $2100. The car continues to have engine surges.

4 Engine problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2004

2000 S80 Volvo has defective throttle body according to Volvo repair center. This is a know and wide spread defect. It causes the engine to surge sporadically or to die. Volvo has issued a bulletin to all service centers advising them of the defect. Volvo will not replace or correct the problem for those auto out of warranty.

5 Engine problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2003

No warning that there was a problem. Car died suddenly while driving 20-30 mph. Mass air flow sensor was replaced under warranty.

6 Engine problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2002

While driving at any speed and with no warning vehicle will shut off, causing consumer to pull over. It will be hard to get vehicle to start again. Dealer notified.

7 Engine problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2002

Upper engine mount broke, causing coolant rack to malfunction.

8 Engine problem

While the vehicle was parked and without any indication, the vehicle caught on fire from the engine. Manufacturer was contacted, but nothing was done, they claim the cause of the fire couldn't be determined. The engine was severely melted.

9 Engine problem

The vehicle cuts off when trying to accelerate after stopping. The vehicle has been to the dealer.
