3 Cruise Control problem of the 2000 Volvo S80

Failure Date: 10/25/2006

Erratic throttle post 10 minutes of drive, much acceleration, not enough acceleration, hesitation, backfires lean. Gets stuck 2nd gear. Cel on. "transmission service urgent" warning message displayed. Cruise control is lost and cannot be turned back on. Obdii pcodes stored 10-29-2006 10:21:18. 464 read stored dtc: p0756 dtc: p1171 dtc: p1181 dtc: p1618 10-29-2006 10:21:18. 474 read stored dtc: p1184 10-29-2006 10:21:18. 474 read stored dtc: p1174 the first code always displayed when the fault occurs. Subsequent continued driving results in the second code pending or permanent. The remaining codes will be added in pairs. First dealer reports I have 18 codes but factory vadis indicates can only store 15 codes maximum. Requested additional $300 to adjust fuel trims, check exhaust and intake leaks, check O2 sensors, work declined. Second dealer reports needs complete transmission. No attempt to solve complaints by dealer, contacted Volvo customer service and they declined to discuss problems, they declined any further involvement. Car had salvage title 2+ years ago from minor accident which prematurely deployed air bags, repaired and returned to service. I am retired ase master mechanic, service manager, and sae member, this is not a transmission issue but caused by the erratic actions of the throttle body system and module. Transmission passes all conventional tests. Results stuck in gear can be corrected by cycling the ignition switch off and back on. This can be done by pulling to the side of the road and stopping to cycle the key or traffic permitting placing in neutral and restarting and then back to drive. No observed failures above 65 mph. TSB send wrong signals to "network" are translated as instructions resulting in poor fuel consumption, high emissions, abnormal wear and tear on transmission, ignition switch, starter, and related components for normal operation, plus a dangerous driving condition.

4 Cruise Control problem of the 1999 Volvo S80

Failure Date: 10/01/2006

: the contact stated while driving various speeds (15-75 mph) on normal road conditions with the cruise control engaged and after an extended ride from 45 to 90 minutes, all warning lights illuminated. The cruise control disengaged by it self and the engine hesitated. The vehicle was taken to the dealership twice, who performed a NHTSA recall #06v41000 which entailed upgrading the current software. However, the problem was not corrected either time, the lurch/stall problem continued. The dealership and the manufacturer coincided the replacement of the air flow control and the abs control unit was not covered by the vehicle's extended warranty, eventhough those replacement corrected the problem. The contact was very concerned because the recall did not solve the dangerous problem. Updated 12/28/2006 -.

5 Cruise Control problem of the 2000 Volvo S80

Failure Date: 06/23/2006

My 2000 Volvo S80 2. 9 vehicle started surging then hesitating, back & forth, at all speeds up to 70 mph interstate speeds while cruise control was on and off. When cruise control is on, after about 5-10 miles, cruise control turns itself off & car suddenly starts decelerating. After about 1 week of this, on 6/30/06 performance reduced message appeared. On 6-24-06 engine service required message appeared for a short time. After stopping and turning motor off for about 30 minutes to read owner's manual, started motor again & message has not reappeared. When cruise turns itself off, you cannot turn cruise back on until motor is stopped & restarted, then you can turn cruise control back on for about 5-10 miles then it will go back off. Surging and hesitation continues with steady pressure on accelerator (trying to maintain constant speed) and cruise control off.

6 Cruise Control problem of the 1999 Volvo S80

Failure Date: 05/30/2006

Purchased a 1999 Volvo S80 in June 2000. Since that time on dozens of occasions warning messages have constantly appeared on the dash display, I. E. Fuel filler cap loose, emission system service required, and engine system service urgent. We had the vehicle checked by Volvo of annapolis for this problem and were informed that there was nothing wrong. Since then we have had the S80 checked by a reputable aaa certified auto service center who informed us that the throttle body was the cause of the problem and that Volvo had to rectify the problem which is very common. When the error message engine system service urgent appears the cruise control disconnects and will not re-engage. The vehicle surges and is a constant worry for my spouse who primarily operates the vehicle.

7 Cruise Control problem of the 1999 Volvo S80

Failure Date: 02/01/2006

The information panel gives the following warnings: brake failure stop safely ASAP (t2 goes to ------) stc service required' when this happens the cruise control doesn't work. We have called the dealer to find out what to do. He says to bring the car in when the message is showing. The message comes and goes and isn't consistent enough to be able to take it to the dealer when it is on. We were told that the brakes should work without the abs feature. The dealer has moved to 45 miles from our house. We believe that this is a false warning.

8 Cruise Control problem of the 2000 Volvo S80

Failure Date: 10/26/2005

I own a my 2000 Volvo S80 2. 9. Upon driving in town the car suddenly lost acceleration and engine started shaking. The message reader prompted me to stop and restart the engine. Well I did, in the turning lane, but it did not help. I pulled out of the cross section "shaking". My mechanic says the onboard computer prompts him to a faulty engine throttle module. Well this car has only 48000 miles on it. On the same note: on my 1999 s70 glt at around 60000 miles the same part had to be replaced, because it shut down the cruise control time-to-time.

9 Cruise Control problem of the 2000 Volvo S80

Failure Date: 10/01/2005

1. Following download of recall software performance has been vastly reduced and now only achieves 8. 2 mpg. 2. The abs control module functions intermittently and usually in the failure mode. Abs brakes do not function properly-replacement $950 3. While backing (cold engine), brakes fail to stop the car for several seconds (feet). 4. The vehicle stalls mostly on turns but on straight away. A. Car now shuts off approx 6-8 times while driving, dangerous while driving at interstate/highway speeds. It "surges" forward and the lights (dash and headlights) fade - vehicle stalls with no power steering or power brakes. 5. Cruise control fails ã‚?? up hills/down hills shuts down. Now is inoperable. 6. The electronic door locks malfunction intermittently. 7. Following error codes display and total mileage, trip 1 & 2 mileage displays default to ã‚?? --------ã‚?? and mileage does not log on the odometer: a. Brake failure stop ASAP b. Coolant level low stop ASAP c. Abs failure / service required d. Stc service required e. Power steering failure - service required f. Emission system service required g. Stop safely and restart engine h. Alarm system service required I. Alarm triggered j. Emission system service required k. No oil pressure stop ASAP l. Check engine. The ball joint, driver side window motor, sunroof switch were replaced. Numerous bulb replacements and replacement of mass flow sensor. The cooling fan malfunctioned. The abs control module would function intermittently which would cause the abs to not function. The power steering failed. The vehicle will completely shut off while driving. The cruise control was inconsistent, the vehicle would loose power with the cruise activated. The electronic doors malfunctioned, the fob does not always open the door and at times when closing the driver side door. Updated 12/15/06.

10 Cruise Control problem of the 1999 Volvo S80

Failure Date: 09/29/2005

Engine miss firing and emission light on. Later engine running good but cruise control would not work and text message 'engine system fix next service' with orange warning light on. Took to Volvo dealer and they replaced the etm for no charge. They kept the old part because they had replaced the original one.

11 Cruise Control problem of the 1999 Volvo S80

Failure Date: 09/09/2005

On September 10, 2005 at approximately 2:30 pm, my engine abruptly stalled while traveling at highway speeds with cruise control engaged. I pulled the car off to the side of the road. It would not restart. Upon each attempt to restart, the engine would actually run roughly for 1-2 seconds and then stall. I had the car towed about 35 miles to my Volvo dealer. When it arrived, it started. This is the second time this has happened. The last time, the dealer found no problem. I am aware that Volvo suspects the throttle body in these matters. Mine has already been replaced!.

On July 23 while driving on interstate at 75 mph the owner noticed the performance reduced light"came on . The cruise control shut off by itself. Then owner pushed the gas, there was a feeling of loss of power. Then, the owner got off on the nearest exit. Stopped for a second, an d the car seemed sluugish. The owner continued on the trip and shut the car off. When the car was turned back on the owner noticed the performance reduced light went off. The owner took it to a mechanic who said that since the light wasn't on the computer would not find the code. The mechanic said go ahead and drive it since no warning lights were showing right now. Then on August 9 while going 75 mph. The "performance reduced light" came on and at the same the time cruise control went off and would not come back on. There was a feeling of loss of power. The owner took it direclty to the mechanic who advised the car was showing a code indicating a problem with the electronic throttle module. So the owner will take the car to the dealership tomorrow. The owner called the dealerhsip who advised that there was no recall and the owner should just bring in the car for inspection. The owner called Volvo and they have advised that they are not helping with the cost of repair becuase there is no recall. Did the vehicle completely stall out and die or did it lose power and operate at a reduced speed? reduced speedif no crashes or injuries were there any near-misses caused by the problem? the owner says no near misses yet. The owner will take it to dealer tomorrow. Volvo has advised they will not help pay for repair. Has the etm has never been replaced.

Failure Date: 07/16/2005

The contact owns a 2001 Volvo S80. The vehicle will begin to buck at highway speeds. The cruise control will drop off at random and stop working before the bucking starts. Sometimes at start up it will idle really rough. The contact purchased the vehicle on July 16, 2005 and this problem has been occurring ever since he purchased the vehicle. The vehicle will completely stall as well as run at low speeds. The vehicle failed at least 50 times since he purchased the vehicle. The consumer was not the original owner. The problem has been diagnosed as the electronic throttle module, but has not been fixed at this point.
