I have a 2016volvo S80. This is my 7th Volvo I have owned. 4 months ago my car stalled in the middle of ther road. I had no power with the gas petal. Truck behind me trird not to hit me and our sides touched scapping my car and passenger mirrow. The police offier did not charge either of us. I thought I had bad gas?? took into my mechanic who only works on Volvos he di 75,000 service work and changed the oil. I told him about what happened. Two weeks ago my car light came on no oil pressure stop immediately again was like several months ago I had no power with gas petal. I pulled over light went off. My mechanic was closed at that time so I went to advance auto. I have no measure stick for oil you have to go through the car system to check oil level. It stated not low however we put in a quart of synethic oil and I dropped it off at my mechant. He called me the next day. He stated their was no oil in my car at all and their was no leak. Changed oil new filter another $150. 00. He did some research on my car. My car is a year included in a class action lawsuit for faulty engine pistons problem. This lawsuit was settled out of court so no one knows for how much. So I am risking my life with a car that will require a new engine appox $8000. 00. Volvo has never recalled these cars. I am afraid to drive it now!!!! a 7 time Volvo owner. You see all kinds of stupid recalls but when your engine stops in the middle of the road this is very dangerous. My mechanic states I need to take to a dealership for this problem. Called Volvo midlothian va they can not even look at my car till September. I have called the other dealership in richmond va and they are doing some research and get back to me. If you google this their are 100,s of owners having the same problems that my car has and not one recall.

A warning light came on stating that the oil pressure was low and that the car needed to immediately be stopped. No previous warning lights have ever come on in this vehicle. It was towed to kenny jones auto and they stated that there was half a quart of oil in the engine. *this car has an electronic oil gauge (no manual "dip stick") which had failed. It indicated there was an appropriate amount of oil in the engine when there was almost nothing. This could have resulted in engine failure or a fire. According to the auto shop, this is common. It cost $600 to fix.
The etm is acting up for no reason available.

The contact called on behalf of his wife who owns a 2016 Volvo S80. The contact stated that the engine auto start/stop function was not operating as needed and the vehicle had a delay to start automatically upon releasing the brake pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where an unknown repair was completed; however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at various speeds and driving over a pothole, the check engine warning light would illuminate. The vehicle was taken to a local pep boys, where it was diagnosed that the ignition coil of cylinder #1 had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2002 Volvo S80. While driving 30 mph, the accelerator pedal traveled to the floorboard and smoke appeared under the hood. The vehicle was taken to several unknown independent mechanics who determined that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,000.

While we were try I g to repair this vehicle we were test driving it a d came to a full stop at a stoplight signal and could not downshift vehicle into 1st gear from a stop after the vehicle was at normal running temperature. Causing it to go I to a limp home mode. So while we were driving we noticed that the floor was saturated with antifreeze and a sweet odor from the vents was noticed with a smoke . We serviced the transmission without success . Also noticed an no oil pressure read on dash only when we were not in acceleration. This disappear when upon acceleration and returned when idling. We serviced the oil filter the fluids performed a motor flush first and replaced the oil pressure switch. Without successful repairs and continue of the code returns after performing a drive cycle numerous times. We are convinced this is caused by the recall #r155. Thank you for help in repairing this issue under the NHTSA recall#06v441000.
Vehicle has been hesitant, sputtering and surging when stopped or increasing speed. When stopped the vehicle surges and moves. This can be very dangerous, as we can hit a vehicle in front of us. The etm has been cleaned by collins auto in SC. They told us that it needed to be replaced with a few thousand miles. There is build up in the throttle body and this is due to the oil change interval (7500 miles) which is recommended by Volvo. This is a safety issue and a part defect which Volvo should fix and replace at their cost.

The contact owns a 2002 Volvo S80. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, there was a sudden increase in engines rpms without warning. The contact powered the vehicle off and back on but the failure recurred. After several attempts, the vehicle was able to be driven without incident. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 147,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Volvo S80. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle started to rattle and smoke was emitting from the front of the vehicle without warning. The contact tried to merge over to the slower lane and discovered that the brake pedal had become inoperable. The vehicle coasted to a stop and shortly after the vehicle exploded. A police report was filed but the cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 118,000.

While driving at speed tachometer dropped to 900 rpm from about 3500 with an 18 wheeler not more than 6 car lengths behind me, needless to say if it weren't for diving onto the shoulder as is decelerated rapidly to 20 mph in a matter of seconds I would have been rear-ended with my family in the car. This is a known issue. Volvo has extended the warranty on some of the etms to 10 years/200,000 miles. When I called Volvo to ask if this model was part of that extended warranty they told me that it only covered '99-01' and that they would not repair it as " things break when they get old", and that I should drive it to the shop for diagnosis, at my own peril. They also informed me it would take a class action lawsuit to change this. Why should it take a lawsuit or death of a whole car full of people to get someone to take accountability for use of substandard parts? I drove the car home in "limp mode " and parked it. Today I went out to see if it would run and drive, to my amazement it did, so I took it for a little test <5 miles, and it did the same thing again, this time I was prepared. I checked the codes and it had none in the system. Call me for a first hand account. 303-621-5174.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Volvo S80. The contact stated while driving at low speeds, the stabilization warning light illuminated and started flashing. The steering wheel failed to move and vehicle loss power. The charging warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the alternator and battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The contact called pedersen Volvo cars (4455 s mason st, fort collins, CO 80525, (970)223-8500) however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

As I was driving I heard a bang and saw smoke coming from underneath and behind the passenger seat and quickly fire spreading throughout the back of the vehicle. The rear window blew out. The car would not stop as I drove the vehicle off the street. I had to throw myself out of the vehicle. The entire vehicle was inflamed and exploded.

Driving in the city and when trying to stop on a traffic light the brakes became hard and engine was not running well. When I tried to drive off in the green light the speed control of the gas pedal was very chaotic. I got a message of engine system service required. I took the car to the local Volvo dealer and he diagnosed a faulty throttle etm asking 2000 $ to replace. After researching I found that there was already a recall on that by Volvo and when I asked the dealer he said that this was true but my car was more than 10 years old ( although he could have informed me about that in the first place). He informed me that a software service on the etm of my car was done in 2006 ( after the recall?) but this did not fix the problem as apparently the problem is with the etm design ( faltering potentiometer). This car is very dangerous and it will probably go to the junkyard, but we should be concerned by all Volvos remaining on the street with faulty etm's, which the numerous complaints filed at NHTSA show.
The contact owns a 1999 Volvo S80. The contact stated the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous for the failure. The dealer replaced the battery and the wiring harness but to no avail. The failure mileage was 186,585 and the current mileage was 187, 642.
Volvo 1999 S80 - car went from 60 mph to 20 mph on freeway. Told it was the electronic throttle body. Also told it was a month out of the extended warranty.
I own an 1999 Volvo S80 (t6 turbo) several months ago the car developed a rough idle and engine surge when the rpms were below about 1200. I have had the car looked at by a Volvo dealer and independent mechanics. No one has found the problem. The error codes that are being generated are inaccurate. Replacing the indicated parts does not solve the problem. The most dangerous aspect of this problem is that when in reverse there is a significant engine surge at times. This creates a very unsafe situation because the surge is not predictable. Significantly increased pressure on the brake pedal is required to keep the car under control while in reverse when this surge occurs. I strongly urge you to investigate this defect in the Volvo S80 and take action to require a recall of these vehicles.
I was driving approx. 65 miles an hour on i395 and I was in the passing lane. I went to accelerate and move into the travel lane and I was not able to accelerate. My speed stared to reduce and all of the power shut off in the vehicle. No warning lights came on and no indication on what the car was shutting down. I checked for vehicles behind me and around me and put on my hazard lights. I quickly pulled off of the busy highway and managed to stop at the side of the road (middle of the highway - next to the median). The police had seen me pull over and called a wrecker service. The car was brought to the place where I purchased the vehicle (foreign motors east in brooklyn, CT) and they kept the car for the next 3 days. They were unable to determine the cause and this just happened again last month (June 20th 2007). It was the same conditions. . . Driving on i395 when the acceleration stopped and the car started to slow down. I pulled the car over and turned off the car. I waited 2 minutes and turned the key again and the car was fine. I drove the next 45 minutes with no issues.

My 2001 Volvo S80 t6 cost me around $3,500 in repairs/maintenance after purchase in the last 3 months. This car has something going wrong one thing after another. To mention some: front sway-bar links, turbo charger drain, bad alternator (that cause other electronics to malfunction I. E. The vehicle's entire heating system), in-car sensor failure for interior air quality , electronic throttle module failure that caused me to have the vehicle towed to the Volvo dealership for $190, catalytic converter failure, oxygen sensor failure, the front struts and mounts need to be replaced, yet. Maintenance wise, the 60k maintenance, which the dealership never mentioned that it had been completed on this vehicle ( no paper work for the vehicle was provided to me at the time of purchase), the brakes went bad in two weeks after purchase, the tires needed to be replaced, total cost: around $2,000. I don't know what more to expect to have gone wrong on this vehicle. This car has put me through lots of stress, waste of time, and loss of money. I bought the vehicle for $14,000 and has put in almost $3,500 and it's not even worth $17,000 in the market at this point. Volvo needs to have a recall on their suspension problems (struts, sway bar links, bushings) which happen quite often as I have heard and read on the consumer complaints online, and also for the alternator failure and cause afterwards. Also, if the car had to be towed because of a recall problem, they should cover the cost of tow since the problem was caused by their recall item.
Hesitation, surging, loss of power, etc. This car runs so erratically that I am even afraid to change lanes in traffic because I am just afraid that it is going to stop right in the middle and I am going to be hit by the car behind me. I am afraid to stop at traffic lights because the car wont accelerate and run normally therefore ill have upset drivers in back of me waiting until the car decides to move forward. This is very dangerous especially when you are driving with a lot of traffic around you. I have taken it to the dealer but they just say that if there are no messages or codes they cannot do anything about it because Volvo wont reimburse them for the expense. This erratic behavior has been happening more and more often and I don't believe it has been a day that has not happened since it first started. I have had an upgrade, a cleaning but no replacement in sight.
Transmission problems causing dangerous driving conditions. The transmission slips when going between 2nd and 3rd. Also had issues with the engine going to 700 rpms when going 65 mph. This is just one of the many problems. The solenoid went out in the transmission about 13000 miles ago. Currently I have three different error codes "transmission service urgent", low oil pressure stop engine ASAP", and "emission service required". I have read many other people have the same problems I have had. Nm.
2000 Volvo S80 t6 sedan - car began to jerk as though missing; got progressively worse, even after complete maintenance update. Has essentially gone to no power and I'v had to coast to the side of the highway - turn off- wait - restart and then run awhile longer. Local mechanic says its a throttle module or my main computer and must be fixed at dealer (220 miles away) because no one else can program the new module when replacing.
Engine miss firing and emission light on. Later engine running good but cruise control would not work and text message 'engine system fix next service' with orange warning light on. Took to Volvo dealer and they replaced the etm for no charge. They kept the old part because they had replaced the original one.
My 1999 s-80 Volvo lost power temporarily while my wife was driving the vehicle in traffic. Several of the cars warning lights came on including the transmission service required and brake service required immediately type messages. The Volvo dealer just replace the abs module and several coil packets and spark plugs. A couple of old parts were left in the inside of the vehicle. We are not sure what the parts are.
I get performance reduced messages on my 2000 Volvo S80 message console, and the car will slow down almost to a stop. This has happened more than 100 times to me - even at highway speeds. I have to put the hazard lights on, and make my way off of the road on to the shoulder. If I turn the car off, and restart the car, (often several times), the car seems to "reset" and I can often drive on. Westside Volvo of cleveland, ohio has quoted me between $1,200 and $2,000 to fix this problem, and has told me it is the "etm". My car has 106,000 miles on it. The dealer has told me that the unit was "designed only to last until 100,000" miles, and that only a Volvo dealer can replace it - because of computer software that must be encoded on the part. I purchased this car used with 59,000 miles on it, thinking I would get a car that might last me ("Volvo - for life. . . " happens to be the company's marketing slogan). However, I cannot currently afford the repair, and I cannot afford to get another car. I am forced to drive this car and it is unsafe. I have had more than 5 incidents where there was almost a crash - mostly due to this "performance reduced" happening at highway speeds on multiple lane highways in heavy traffic. Please do something about this - please help me. Thank you.
I was driving my vlolvo S80 on 07/10/2005 on the highway when it suddenly lost power. I could barely operate it over 30 miles an hour. I got stopped by a state policeman and got ticket for operating under 30 miles/hour and negligent operation. I'm schefuled for an appeal hearing. Throttle was replaced by a dealesrhip, nut they said that it can happen again, since it's the same design part.
Volvo S80 the engine part that regulates the amount of air into the vehicle's engine. This has happened to us twice and my wife has been stranded twice having to be towed. We have had to pay all the costs as they are not covered under warranty. Have emailed Volvo customer service 3 times with no response about the issue.
I was traveling on interstate 20 from atlanta, GA headed to charleston, SC. Between augusta, GA and columbia, SC, the car lost power as if someone were applying the brakes while I had my foot on the gas pedal. Suddenly, I had a warning light come on that said "performance reduced". I wound up having to locate the local Volvo dealer in columbia where I left my car for repair and had to proceed to charleston in a rented vehicle. This happened late in the day on Friday and I had to be in charleston for a meeting on Saturday morning. The "throttle body control" was deemed to be the problem and the dealer replaced it at a cost of close to $1,000. When I asked what would have happened if I had continued to drive I was told that the car eventually would have lost total power and died. Unfortunately, I do not have the part that was replaced. When I read about your investigation, I was outraged that this is obviously a dangerous and fairly common problem.
Volvo S80 t6 1999. Defective etm (throttle module or throttle unit). This module failed at only 64,000 miles and is not covered under Volvo warranty. I understand this is happening to almosy every owner of this model year. I'm asking for Volvo to cover the replacement cost (parts and labor). The failure of this unit could cause severe injury and/or death as the vehicle engine will die at any speed and anywhere without notice. The dealership replacement cost is over $1000.
After stopping at a light or sign with foot on the brakes vehicle jumped forward several feet. Also, when trying to pass another vehicle on the highway vehicle decelerated instead of accelerating, nearly causing an accident.
Car dies without warning at high speeds and low speeds, apparently Volvo knows that there is a bad computer chip in many of the cars but does not admit to it because it costs $800 to replace the chip. I found this out from another Volvo driver!.
