I purchased a 2001 Volvo v7 wagon with 61,000 miles. (it was a one owner car that had been repossessed). Within a week, the car was going into neutral while I was driving on the highway and jerking. The transmission has to be replaced. Because of its age, Volvo refuses to help with the cost of replacing the transmission. Yet, no matter how old the vehicle, the transmission should have lasted much longer. Neither Volvo USA or Volvo International would help.
'01 xc70 awd wagon, with automatic transmission. So automatic that it put itself in drive when shifted into reverse. The Volvo lurched forward at a daycare facility rather than backing out as was hoped a working transmission would do. Upon a cursory glance on the internet, this problem has been the defining characteristic of the 2001 model xc70 since built. Volvo should be held accountable for the rubbish they are selling, and I assure you, will be held accountable if this same situation occurs for someone else and there is a loss of life. I have never bothered complaining about the random electrical issues that have plagued this lemon since we have owned it, random door locks, window switches, dozens and dozens of light bulbs burned out, but the fact that my wife and infant daughter were left stranded without reverse or really a functioning transmission, on a 90+ degree day, make this a cause I will never be silent about.
My V70 aways hesitates when shifting between r and d gear. And I can hear a loud clank!!! sometime it does a horrible up- or down-shifting around 25 mph. The transmission must get worse and worse since the "clank" continues everyday.
A week after I bought my 2001 Volvo V70 xc the transmission started shifting hard, lunging between shifts and after about an hour of driving it was difficult to drive. The service tranny light and check engine light both came on after a violent shift from 3-2. Took car to lyle pearson Volvo in boise. Nate told me the computer needed re-programing from Volvo and an adaptive drive test was needed. I paid the $149. 00 for 45min (wow)! the next day it started again, only this time all shifts were "violent"! I called a Volvo dealer in a different city and they said the drive test was not done correctly. I then called nate at lyle pearson and he said to replace the b4 piston cover. 2 days later and the b4 piston cover was replaced and problem still occurs. When I called nate again he actually said " I wish I never even looked at it" and refused to re-do the adaptive drive test. Sending car to an auction. This is criminal.
The contact owns a 2001 Volvo V70. The contact stated that the automatic transmission shifted hard between gears at lower speeds. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic who stated that the alternator was not charging and there was a lack of power; the alternator was replaced. The failure continued and became progressively worse. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The current mileage was approximately 120,000. The failure mileage was approximately 119,900.
The contact owns a 2001 Volvo V70. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle would jerk unexpectedly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they offered no asistance. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Automatic transmission on 2001 Volvo V70 t5 is triggering check engine warning light on dash. No significant performance problems as yet but will likely be unable to pass my next emission test due to the check engine warning light. Need to know how to solve this without replacing the transmission.
Recurring transmission problem. Car jerks and stalls repeatedly at low speeds. Loud clunk followed by sudden acceleration or deceleration. Dealer has been ineffective at solving the problem.
Transmission slams into gear when shifting at low gears. Shifting is violent. Car does not accelerate smoothly or predictably, making it unsafe to operate. Happens almost every time the car is driven. Took it to Volvo dealer, they recommended rebuilding the transmission (replacement transmissions not available). Took it to aamco and had the transmission rebuilt. Problem continued for 7 months. Continued taking it back and they continued to work on it until they were finally able to correct the problem.
The transmission of my car makes my car lurch forward when going between gears. The rpms rev up and then the gear grabs, sending my car forward in a giant lurch. After almost hitting cars in front of me several times, I now make sure to keep extra distance between myself and the car in front of me. After having the "transmission needs maintenance" and engine check lights come on, the dealer has diagnosed a problem with the electronic system that controls the transmission. I am having this replaced for $500. 00.
Vehicle output sensors codes showed up, and the transmission service light came on. Replaced speed sensors, and 4 days later, the same problem happened. The vehicle transmission service light came back on, and the vehicle will not move at all now.
Transmission warning light appeared. Brought to dealer and the 'updated' the software which was not covered by my warranty. Car now jerks into gear. Warranty now expired, and dealer says the transmission is 'going out and time to trade up' (buy a new Volvo).
Volvo V70 2001 hesitating to change gear, problem occurs more frequently during slow commute at aprox. 20-40 miles/hr. One day driving through I-285 in atlanta, GA car suddenly stopped. Thank god I was at an exit area and was able to slide car to a non traffic area. Car was able to start engine again aprox. Within 5-10 minutes. Car problem was reported to north point Volvo, alpharetta, GA. The car had a "sensor problem" and was "corrected", per the dealer. . Today car is still having problems - hesitant to change gear. I am worried it will turn off again one day. Researching in the internet found a lot of people with same problems. Volvo company should be investigated.
Contact owned 2001 a Volvo. He complained about throttle body problem. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice with what he thought was a transmission problem. They could not adjust the transmission. Curfrently, they told him that it wa sthe throttle body. To replace it would cost consumer $800. 00. He ended up paying $250. 00 for throttle body replacement. When he drove the car home it surged between shifts changes. He called the dealer back and informed them it was doing the same thing. They said a technician needed to ride around with him to find the problem. The consumer said the problem was intermittent.
I was interested to hear of the 2001 Volvo V70 investigation. Last fall, my car repeatedly did not accelerate when I pressed on the gas pedal. The dealership replaced the transmission. I have twice felt the problem momentarily, but then the car returned to normal function.
Intermittently when accelerating at any speed gears did not mesh properly, and vehicle revved for a few seconds. This problem occurred twenty times since March of 2004. Dealer inspected the vehicle, but could not find the cause of the problem.
Purchased a certified preowned V70 16000 miles. Shortly after purchase I've experienced intermittent ,several second high engine rev when automatic shifts from 1st gear to 2nd gear. Dealer cannot find anything wrong.
Vehicle was purchased in 07/01. Consumer advised while driving, noticed vehicle would intermittently lose traction on dry pavement. Once inclement weather arrived(I. E. Rain, light snow), noticed traction control turns on/off erratically causing wheels to slide, especially when vehicle is on a slight to major incline. When on an incline, consumer has to let vehicle slide backward to more level ground before it will accelerate. Vehicle has been checked by dealer who has been unable to duplicate or determine cause. Consumer is concerned that dealer did not attempt to duplicate problem in "like" conditions I. E. Rain or light snow on an incline. Ts.
Our 2001 xc 70 Volvo has had a stalling problem that repeats periodically but that the dealer can't replicate. It began with a surging and the transmission shifting erratically. This was fixed with a software download but stalling continued. It is random occurring when we accelerate at intersections as we turn or begin. It is quite anxiety provoking since it could happen when we are turning and if a car was coming it could strike us and cause a serious accident. It is now off warranty but on extended warranty and when the dealer is contacted they do not know what to do. Recently, the local service rep for Volvo here in fairbanks, alaska replaced a turbo link valve. It was replace only today so we do not know if it will continue to have a problem. It happens about once a month.
The car lost power occasionally when shifting between first and second gears. It would not accelerate, but it revved to over 6,000 rpms. The car would pull back and then lunge into gear. It had a whiplash effect on the driver and passengers. After 18 visits to the dealer and probably as many calls to Volvo of n. America, I found another dealer. They replaced the valve body last year and it hasn't happened since. I can't answer the next question because it happened several times a week for 3 years.
