1 Body problem of the 2003 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 07/26/2016

The driver side interior door latch has disconnected four times in the past five years. As a driver, I am literally stuck in the car, and I have to exit thhrough passenger side of the vehicle. This repair(s) does not work, and the door latches are faulty in these cars. As a person that is driving in florida, with three kiddos, I can't be stuck in my car if for some reason the car goes into the water. The spring in the handle of the car does not work, and there should be a recall of the assembly of the door handle. Yes, this is an unsafe condition, as I can't exit my car, especially in the event of an emergency.

2 Body problem of the 2001 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 12/19/2014

First time, was in a drive through & just took off, hopped the curb, and hit talk box. Next 2 times were stopped quickly by me putting in neutral. Last time was just leaving parking space, and car jumped curb and I stopped 4 ft. From brick wall. Have had it tested 2-3 times by mechanics w/o success.

3 Body problem of the 1998 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

Drivers side door hinge/strap failed causing door to break from frame and become dysfunctional. As it worsened over a few days the door became increasingly difficult to open where it became a safety concern. Volvo mechanic referred to auto metal service shop which replaced/repaired door strap and welded door back to frame and confirmed this was a known "workmanship" defect with a number of Volvo models and years. Volvo n. A. Was notified of this 9/13/13 and was interested to see the repair invoice, which was provided to them, but in the end they declined to reimburse for this flaw stating the car was no longer covered by a manufacturer's warranty. When the drivers side door becomes dysfunctional from faulty workmanship that indicates a safety issue that the manufacturer should "man up" and repair/recall or reimburse the owner for, regardless if the vehicle is no longer under manufacturer's warranty. Doors shouldn't just break off from the frame under normal use. There was no crash or abuse involved with this door. It just broke like a cheap, inferior product.

4 Body problem of the 2002 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 11/05/2011

Our vehicle was rear-ended by a 2012 vw tiguan (which was itself rear-ended by a 1997 Dodge ram). The rear of our vehicle offered no protection to occupants in the third-row seat that Volvo claims is designed to accommodate children. The vw made almost no contact with the frame of our car, and instead slid right into the rear passenger compartment almost 2 feet, crumpling the hatch that was the only barrier between the legs of a passenger (had there been one) and the front of the vw. The 3rd row seat of station wagons poses significant risk of permanent crippling injury to children in even a minor rear-end accident.
