3 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 1998 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 08/14/2007

Driver side air bag deployed when door was shut and car was off. Volvo n. A. Was contacted and requested that their specialist look at vehicle. They claim that something was stuck in the door, which caused the deployment. This was not the case. Volvo claims that a mark on the door is proof. However, jim downy from nationwide insurance took pictures and investigated my claim and failed to find this supposed mark. The deployment occurred from no impact or accident. The car wasn't even on at the time. This was nothing more than a malfunction of the vehicle's safety equipment and Volvo should be held liable to fix the airbag and damage to the leather seat caused by the deployment.

4 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2001 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 06/27/2007

The road: 2 lanes each way, wide median, paved shoulders which rolled off into a drainage ditch, 60 mph limit with sto plights. While in left began to pass vehicle2 [SUV] in right lane. Vehicle 2 moved into left lane forcing me onto shoulder. While on shoulder and attempting to reenter lane after completing pass began to lose control of car. That was the last memory of the events leading up to the accident. At this point, I believe that the driver's airbag deployed prematurely. It knocked me uncouncious, preventing me from trying to control the car. The car ended up crossing the road to the right shoulder. It left the roadway at 20-30 degree angle. It went down into a ditch, and rolled up a bank 2-3 times. It came to rest on the driver's side. The upper passenger side was crushed, and the car was totaled. The roof of the car was cut so that I could get out rather than crawl through the windshield. The side impact airbags did not deploy in the rollover. The passenger airbag did deploy. My shoulder/seat belt was on. I was extremely fortunate to only have minor injuries. How can I indisputably determine when the airbag deployed? is there a data recorder? do I need to hire an accident investigator?.

8 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 1998 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 08/30/2002

My vehicle was in park, and my 8-year-old daughter closed the front passenger door from outside the car. The side airbag deployed for no apparent reason. I have contacted Volvo, and they inspected the car on sept. 5. They promised to give me a full report along with a decision on whether or not they would pay for the repair within a week. It's been almost three weeks, and they still have not supplied the report or a decision despite several phone calls that I have made to them. They say that they will gladly pay for the repair if it's their fault, but they continue to put me off and seem to be looking for an excuse not to cover the cost of repair. Nlm.

9 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 1998 Volvo V70

Abs/ traction computer failure, premature brake failure, side airbag deployed falsely (Volvo v 70 awd cross country).

10 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 1999 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 09/20/2001

I was driving a 1999 Volvo V70xc and entering an intersection from a stopped position. I was hit by a Dodge durango, which was moving at approximately 40 mph. The durango hit the Volvo V70xc at the location of the driver side front door. The hit was displaced over the entire drivers door of the Volvo, both "a" & "b" pillars were compromised. The Volvo is equipped with side impact air bags and the driver side air bag did not deploy, but the front air bag did, with no hit to the front of the vehicle. The Volvo's driver side door was crushed and pushed approximately 6 to 8" toward the driver seat of the vehicle. Furthermore, a technician specialist representing Volvo north America, after much delay, recently examined the vehicle at a local Volvo dealership. Afterwards, Volvo north America formally responded, in writing, that the 1999 Volvo V70xc performed according to design. My complaint is that I purchased the Volvo for it's promoted safety features and I am disappointed the side air bag did not deploy under the circumstances described above. I would also like Volvo to substantiate the validity of claim and describe, in detail, under what circumstances a consumer could expect the air bag to deploy. It would also be expected that Volvo introduce this information into their sales and marketing program so that prospective buyer would have a better understanding that the promoted side-air bag only responds under conditional circumstances.
