1 Turn Signal Flasher Unit problem of the 2000 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 08/01/2001

Purchased car in early January 2000. Problems with hood latch not releasing. Servicing of vehicle three times to resolve and will intermittently continue. Both turn signals failed within first 6 months of owning car. Recall was in place but dealer did not replace until units failed. Latch on vehicle failed within first week of ownership in cold weather. Brought into dealer three times to resolve. Did not know at the time this was a recall issue and dealer said nothing wrong with it. After third time, demanded action and then they said, "OH, it's on recall" and replaced latch. Problem was would not work in cold weather, would freeze up so the latch was either stuck when closed or if you opened up the rear door, it would not close. Next item was fuel vapor leak into car. Dealer fixed but created problem with the fuel gauge. Gauge would not indicate less than 6 gallons. Ran out of gas three times before figuring that out. Dealer replaced part/all of line or sensor in fuel system.

2 Turn Signal Flasher Unit problem of the 2001 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 10/01/2000

Clutch problem: 5 speed manual transmission. Clutch sticks after pressing it in, when it comes back up. This happens when temperature is cold. Dealer checked out 4 times, could not reproduce problem. Independent mechanic found problem at once and states that clutch bearing needs lubricated otherwise will wear prematurely. Dealer refuses to do this. Light problem: problem exactly the same as 99-00 recall NHTSA campaign 00v405000. Year 2001 should get included in recall. Dealer "fixed" problem once by "cleaning the socket" problem reoccured. Required recall fix is to replace bulb and socket and not "clean socket".

4 Turn Signal Flasher Unit problem of the 1999 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 01/17/2000

As you can see, I have repeatedly had headlights and turn signal lights burn out on a brand new car. The personnel at the dealership have repeatedly advised me that Volvo knows there is a problem with the V70's because the socket and the lightbulbs are not compatible. I have written to Volvo asking for replacement of all of the exterior lights and never recieved any response. The dealership agreed to do that under its goodwill warranty. This was done on 4/19/2000. It has not resolved the problem as another signal light has just gone out. It seems to me that Volvo, which is perfectly aware of the problem, should recall these cars so the their owners don't have to return to the dealership every month to replace a lightbulb.

Left and right front turn signals fail every few months. Each time the bulb contacts as well as the bulb receptacle are severely scorched and plastic is melted. I am concerned about fire hazard.

6 Turn Signal Flasher Unit problem of the 1999 Volvo V70

Failure Date: 09/11/1999

Car has approx. 15,300 miles. When activating the turn signal (left) the interior indicator flashed rapidly. The front exterior turnsignal bulb would flash dimly. The dealer determined that a contact on the interior of the light socket was charred and replaced the bulb and socket. This problem has also occurred on my 1998 Volvo V70 wagon.
