Equipment Problems of Volvo XC60 - part 2

Dear sir, I would like to make a complaint about the sos system in my Volvo cx 60 on two occasions tire blew out on the eisenhower interstate on both of those occasions I called Volvo roadside and emergency assistance. I waited for approximately two hours. No one came. I then had to change the tire myself. I have a bad back and I hurt my back further, the first time the second time I was stopped on the eisenhower interstate they were doing road repair. I stopped on one side of the road and then the people doing the road repair asked me to move to the other side which I did, I called Volvo and waited at least two hours. It is 105° outside in the area adjacent to selena utah. I believe I was dehydrated. The human body is approximately 90% water water went down to approximately 70% a gentleman doing construction, the side of the road who I spoke to kindly gave me two bottles of water and one bottle of power drink , at the same time, he asked me to move my car from the other side of the road since they opened up the road they were doing some type of repair type. I am not sure got their assistance and moved my car into salina town in utah, where I am now , my complaint is that the sos button on the Volvo cx 60 is what you were supposed to press if you are in an emergency and they are supposed to come. They are not supposed to tell you they’re gonna come and not come which is what happened in my case both times someone said they’re gonna be there in an hour and then I waited two hours. No one came and then , I had to in the first case do the repairs myself in the second case have someone help push me in the basis of Volvo is misleading thinking that the sos button works it does not work. That is the basis of my complaint. These two events occurred on June 13 and June 14. Of 2024.

Case number 240821-000271 was opened on 8/21/24 with Volvo car USA support. I have three main concerns: 1) the infotainment system losing the favorites that I have saved in the sirius application. This had been an intermittent problem that I had been having since I purchased the car. I finally took it into the service department at Volvo cars of gilbert on 1/7/23 for this problem (invoice number vocs110975). The service department was unable to recreate the problem so they did nothing. 2)a complete car system reboot while I was driving on 6/10/24. As I was driving down the road the hvac system shut off and the dash and infotainment system screens went blank. All car systems completely shut down except the engine. This was an extremely frightening experience as all of this happened with no warning whatsoever while I was driving. This is a huge safety issue! within about a minute of driving like this the systems started to come back up. I proceeded home. The next morning I took the car to Volvo cars of gilbert again. They had the car for 5 days and performed a software update on the ihu (infotainment head unit) (invoice number vocs120164). 3)the failure of the infotainment system to update after starting the car and driving. This happened on 8/7/24 and I took the car directly to Volvo cars of gilbert again. The infotainment system was stuck on “infotainment system starting…” for the entire 12-minute drive to Volvo. Volvo cars of gilbert had my car for 8 days this time and this time they did a reload to the existing ihu (invoice number vocs121204). I asked that they replace the ihu. Volvo refused to replace the ihu because it was too expensive at $3200. Also, the problem of the infotainment system losing its radio favorites has become much worse. It happens daily now. I believe there is an opportunity for a catastrophic event to happen while I am driving if this ihu problem is not corrected immediately.

The sound system of the vehicle failed. No alerts for cross path detection, no parking alerts, no bluetooth calling, no gps guidance, no turn signal sound, no ability to call through the sos feature, and no radio. There is no value to the safety features because there is no audible alert for anything. The when you select radio after listening to bluetooth audio it glitches and turns back to the prior audio source 5-7 times prior to allowing you to stay on the selected source (again no sound so less important of an issue). In addition, the park button doesn’t always work. There are times that I need to press it 3-5 times to put the car in park. The ability to be hands free and use the bluetooth and navigation functions is non existent. The sarasota Volvo dealer walked me through trying to reset the system over the phone but it didn’t work. We have an appointment scheduled in two days to look at the car. No warning signs or alerts came up.

After it rains, I've noticed water collecting in both the passenger and driver side footbeds. It started off nominally and I was easily able to use a cloth. I thought it might have been human error, that I left the window cracked open a bit. The most recent incident (this past weekend 5/4/24) there was a significant puddle on the driver's side. After further research, I discovered the culprit is likely an unbonded windshield, and that this is a known issue for Volvos, but especially for (2010) Xc60s. Having an unbonded windshield seems like a significant hazard risk as the structural integrity of the entire windshield is compromised, as well as risk of electrical components getting wet as the water leaks through the car (and the ripple effects of that).

Volvo dealer describe as issue: motor mounts: front lower engine mount collapsed, other engine mount not yet verified. Power steering: stiff and hard to turn wheels. Transmission: transmission shift sometimes is not easy to move up to down.

Vehicle completely had multiple warning lamps come on while I was driving and it was apparent the computer was failing. Car would not turn off when I moved to turn off the ignition knob. When restarted, car would not shift. Car had to be taken to dealership by tow truck. Dealership notes that water leaked through sunroof over time and accumulated under seats of car, entering into electrical systems. This is also noted by owners of other Volvo cars in public forums.

The windshield leaks. The seal is no good. I get wet every time it rains. No repair messages or warning lights were issued by the car. The repair service inspected the car, and they stated the factory glue was non-existent on the seal. Very poor.

The windshield leaks constantly. I'm worried about the windshield blowing out or electrical components being damaged. This seems to be a constant complaint according to internet search. Why hasn't this been addressed as a safety issue and a recall ordered?.

On November 11, 2023 @ between 10:30 and noon, the vehicle infotainment system completely failed. The screen went blank and functions for heat, radio, navigation, cameras, indicator lights in the mirror and the ability to call Volvo emergency services were all lost. A message on the screen said, "stop the vehicle. This vehicle's infotainment system has encountered a problem. You can reboot or reset factory settings. If this doesn't help, please contact a workshop. " this is the second such failure. The first occurred on September 22, 2023. I filed a report with Volvo (ref#230924- 000697), and repairs were effected at a local dealer in maryland. I also contacted Volvo regarding this second failure on November 11, 2023. That reference # is 231111-000923. I contacted the same dealer and booked an appointment to take the car in on Monday November 13, 2003. I have not driven the car since I returned home.

I recently leased a Volvo Xc60 and the camera system is not working at night time. During the daytime the camera is working and able to capture images…. At nighttime, the camera is not able to “see” and the images on the onboard screen are all dark. I have a Volvo xc90 VIN: yv4a22pk4m1765940 with a backup camera and it works at night time and is able to capture images at night time and the images are clearly defined and viewable…. The Volvo Xc60 is not able to transmit images to the onboard screen. I believe this maybe a software issue…but I am not sure. I believe this is a safety issue and respectfully request your help to resolve this issue.

I have had an issue several times with the hatch of my Volvo Xc60. It has a feature where if you wave your foot under the rear door, the hatch will open or close automatically. This has been triggered inadvertantley several times, nearly injuring several people. This is especially dangerous for small children. You can be trapped by the closing door. In one incident, while parked in our garage, the hatch inadvertently opened and pinned me against the wall while holding a small child. The force could injure a child without question. I tried to disable this feature and couldn’t find a way to do it. If you google it, this is a common issue that others have had happen too.

The drainage system from the roof of the vehicle is faulty and causes water to collect in the space between the carpet in the interior of the vehicle and the floor of the vehicle. Key electrical components are located beneath the front passenger seat of the vehicle. When the water collected, it caused key systems, such as collision warning and other systems to malfunction. When we took the vehicle to the dealership, several other vehicles had to be towed in due to more severe electrical failure as a result of the drainage malfunction.

I recently was forced to use the pry-off cap and manual key entry to get into my 2013 Volvo Xc60. This was due to the vehicle’s lack of response to the fob, there was no communication between the fob and the electrical system. Once inside, inserting the fob, the engine started but the entire instrument cluster was flashing intermittently the various warning lights, and the windows could not be lowered. The cluster showed failure of speedometer, tachometer, brake system, seat belts and all other gauges on the cluster. Not knowing whether it was safe to drive, I turned it off. I returned later and turned it on, same problem. I went around the block, contacted the Volvo dealer for consultation, and secured an emergency appointment to bring it in. On the next day/the appointment, I drove the car in, during which the systems seemed to have reset themselves, but halfway there the problem started again. At this point the vehicle has been there (howard orloff Volvo, 1924 n. Paulina st, chicago, 1. 877. 570. 6927) since the 28th, they have not been able to give me a diagnosis, and the bill is over $600. How can this problem not be a safety risk for ordinary person such as myself? it is my understanding, from researching this, that this is a common and recurring problem so why has there not been a recall for what is obviously a defect inherent in this make and model car? kindly respond with a reference number for this complaint. I was driving and the car started shaking and unable to accelerate. I pulled over and the car started smoking and a fire erupted under the hood. I vacated the vehicle and called 911. The car erupted in flames and burned down to the frame. The insurance inspector wasn't able to determine the cause of the fire.

I've experienced many problems with the google built in system in this Volvo. But the one that keeps happening is the speed sensors. The car is supposed to read traffic signs, including speed signs and alarm when exceeding the posted speed limit. It does not work. For example on i66 east bound in virginia, the speed limit is not 80mph, it is either 60, 65 or 70 if using the express lanes. The Volvo keeps showing the speed limit on this interstate as 80, see attached images showing speed limit sign at 80. Complained to Volvo, they blamed google. Complained to google, they blamed Volvo. Other roads have the same sign recognition. The car infotainment & safety features randomly shut down, or fail, while driving and the vehicle has to be reset often. Back up cameras quit working while backing up sometimes it will not go into reverse without shutting off the car or doing a reset.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? -the backup camera system fails to respond intermittently. Often times the screen will remain black for several seconds while backing up before the screen shows any picture. Other times it will come on, and then flash to black while you are backing up. This is a major hazard should a child run/walk behind a car, when this occurs. I'm hoping others have expressed this problem so action can be taking. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? -since backup cameras are a federal requirement since 5/2018. The failure to function on these new cars I find to be unacceptable. Even more so given that Volvo is supposed to be a brand dedicated to safety. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -indirectly yes, the Volvo dealership acknowledged that the new google system is slow to respond at times. But they said a new software update would fix it. I have found this to not be the case and it seems to be happening more frequently now. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? -yes by the dealer. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? -no.

Component: side-view memory mirrors. Available for inspection. After locking car and then unlocking to re-enter the car, side view mirrors do not return to the proper memory position. Need to press the memory button again to set the mirror's proper position. If mirror not in proper position, car on either side of vehicle may not appear in mirror and when changing lanes, could lead to an accident. Car has been brought to dealer once to correct situation but condition still exists. Other than dealer, no other inspections. No warnings or messages. Problem has existed since we got the car in late February of 2023.

I just purchased car two weeks ago. Got home and tried to familiarize myself with the car. Very intricate car with lots of technology. It is a mainframe on wheels. To my shock, there is no written owners manual in the car. I have been trying to go to the dealership, and customer service, to get said owners manual. I offered to pay for one myself. I am told for environmental reasons that it does not exist. The owners manual is available on the center console of the vehicle. What? what if I am on the side of the road and can't turn on my car, I can't access a manual. Can this be legal? this is not safe. How do we not have a law to require a manual be available for a car sold in the us?.

When I placed the car in the reverse the backup camera screen went black. I needed to stop and restart the vehicle for the backup camera to start working again.

Windshield seal was defective causing water leakage into the dash.

Car was started and a/c system including all defrosting capabilities were non functional. Car was turned off and on with no change. Safety was at risk due to lack being able to have a functioning defrost and possible compromise of visibility out both front and back windshields. Called local dealership to troubleshoot. Service department said likely just a computer malfunction and would be difficult to find remedy if not a continual problem. After car was allowed to sit off for some time and then turned off, normal a/c functions resumed.

1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? blind spot sensor repeatedly malfunctioning. Vehicle generates "service required" message, and it appears that blind spot monitors fail to illuminate. Child safety locks also deactivate without driver input. Vehicle is currently available for inspection. 2. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? dealer has updated the software multiple times but has not attempted to assess the hardware. 3. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no. 4. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? drivers side door buttons periodically do not illuminate and do not operate windows or locks. Vehicle cannot be locked at times, or only passenger side doors can be locked. Key fob and manufacturer app only work to lock the vehicle sometimes. Issues began approximately July 2022 and have repeated intermittently. Issues seem to be occurring more frequently and for longer. Issues have been particularly frequent and long lasting in the last week; vehicle last serviced at the dealer approximately 12/22/2022.

The car's heater on 'pure' mode does not operate. I called the dealer and he said "OH yeah, this is a very widespread problem. " my car travels in cold climates and is subject to moisture/condensation. No call from Volvo, no special notice, nothing. . . . . . Just wait until you can't see out your windows and have to pull to the side of the road because they are too lazy to take care of this issue. It is safety issue - 100%.

Initially the center tablet would blackout while I’m backing out of my driveway, I put in reverse. Camera works. I back out and camera completely turns off. Not an issue with dirty camera as it comes in and off. Several times while I’m driving the entire instrument panel blacks out! it’s happened 5x in the last two months and I don’t drive much. I have taken to the dealer and told Volvo by emails and chat features and no one seems concerned. They could not see it happen while they drove it so they are not worried. I don’t feel safe in this car. Safety was the only reason I chose Volvo. Also the radio makes weird sounds, repaired twice lane assist is not working properly and they are not fixing it, braking system wasn’t working but they thankfully did a recall and fixed that. This car does not hold steady while driving despite the lane assist and all the fancy features I expected was working when purchased.

A faulty radiator anti-tamper device caused loss of communication to the engine control computer. The check engine light turns on and “charging failure-service urgent” message pops up during driving. Which cause the drivers worry even panic. I talked to local dealer several times. I was told to change battery everytime. But my battery and alternator were both tested fine. The message could pop up right after full charged battery. There are many complains at Volvo forums. Volvo knows the issue, but they decided not to recall it. The check engine light and messages pops up on and off by itself. The dtc codes are normally u0286 and/or b1087. I am already changed one battery. The problem is still there. It could cause accident because the message pops up during driving on highway and cause unnecessary worry and panic.

Distracting dash warnings “power steering assistance temporarily reduced”, auto parking warning come on while driving and engine pause during stops working intermittently. Start/stop doesn't work like its supposed to, only works intermittently, only works beginning of drive & then doesn't work rest of travel.

Lately my vehicle has been shutting off power when I hard right turn during parking everything shut off then I have to restart it again, but the scary part was what happened this morning I was driving on interstate and as I was charging lanes it almost powered off again but it picked up.

In September 2021 on 3 occasions, my car's steering locked up while driving. I could not unwind my wheel from a turn. Each time nearly resulted in a collision with a garage ticket booth, a median, drifting into an oncoming lane. Ii slammed on brakes each time to avoid and accident or collision. It was frightening. This happened at low speed (approx. 10 mph), I had no warning indicators, and the wheel released after I stepped off the brake. I took the car to the dealer who could not replicate it; they suggested I keep all lane keeping aids off. They have since been off. This month of July 2022, this began to happen again: 4 times in one week. The last time I could not correct out of turn in the road and nearly resulted in a head-on collision at about 32 mph and I ended up in the approaching traffic lane. My vehicle is having an oil consumption issue. I recently purchased a vehicle and the document stated that it was a oil change completed. Called the dealership to verify that a oil change was indeed completed. Oil light came on stating that there was no or low oil. Arrive to oil change location and there was no oil reported in vehicle. Oil change completed, and 1600 miles later I have no oil in my vehicle again. I noticed the engine running a little harder than normal, and the car is extremely difficult catching acceleration. I contacted Volvo cars llc, and they suggested I bring my vehicle to a dealership to have it evaluated at a cost.

Volvo xc-60 computer system / software updates malfunctioned. The computer(s) remain in the vehicle (to my knowledge). Without warning, the vehicle failed to start, supposedly because of a software update that failed to work properly. The car routinely has software updates. This is the second time in the 6 months since we leased the car that it has had problems with a software update. We have a home in ithaca NY, where it can snow for many months of the year. We are put at risk by a car that can fail without warning. When the car failed to start, it could only be moved by a flat-bed tow truck, as it was impossible to put the car into neutral and it would not roll. The Volvo dealer confirmed that the vehicle failed to start because of a software update that failed to work properly. As far as we know the car's computer(s) was (were) not replaced - it was a pure software download problem. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. There was a message that the car intended to perform a software update and could not be used for 1. 5 hours until the update concluded. But there was no warning that the car would fail to work after the software finished updating.

The issue is with the windshields separating from the bonding agent ( not sealing ) it is cause for a safety issue not only because it is loose and can move when pushed up , but water is entering the vehicle through the top part of the windshield and entering the electrical controls for the lights and sun roof causing a potential short or shock hazard, not to mention ruining the interior of the vehicle ,( headliner, mold. . Etc. . ). I and many other's ( see link below) feel it is necessary to have Volvo make the replacement of windshields in their vehicles . Https://beranek. Agrrmag. Today, my sensus in the center console, as well as my instrument panel that shows the map between the gauges, went black and switched my drive mode out of eco, shutting off my adaptive cruise control. Rebooted 2 times before becoming stable. I have a video, but your system doesn't allow me to upload the file type.

Rebooted 3 times before becoming stable. This is unsafe and very dangerous. They just did a software update while it was in the dealership recently fixing an unrelated issue for a month. Now I have to try and get a video as they always try to claim they can't duplicate issues. . . I always have to take videos and recordings now. . .

When stopped at a stop light, have to hold brake down in order to keep the car from driving as the rpms are revving up and down, causing the car to want to move and when in park revving so high that it went into red and caused the check engine light to come on and I had to turn off the vehicle. Also the gas tank filler tube cloggs up easily and has to be dropped in order for the tube / vents to be cleaned out or replaced.
