1 Rear Suspension Coil Springs problem of the 2011 Volvo XC70

Failure Date: 04/04/2019

This car has only 54k miles! and is driven by a senior citizen lady, bought new, no crashes etc. 1. Abs and dtsc warning appears on dash. Car traveling about 25 mph and stops in middle of intersection, engine still running, will not move despite flooring accelerator. It's as thought the abs has applied the brakes and wont let the car move. Tap brakes, move shift to manual mode after not moving for about 30 seconds car frees up and drives normally but abs/dtsc lights still on. Went straight to dealer, which was nearby. Dealer says rear abs sensor is bad will order part. 2. Also informs me that the front coil spring has broken???. What? it's 54k miles!. . . It hasn't hit anything and she has never driven faster than 65 mph.

Failure Date: 08/13/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2007 Volvo Xc70. While sitting in the idle vehicle, the contact stated that the vehicle felt low. Upon driving a half mile down the road, the body of the vehicle collapsed on top of the wheels. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear coil spring failed and all the coil springs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 118,945.

3 Rear Suspension Coil Springs problem of the 2007 Volvo XC70

Failure Date: 02/05/2013

My wife was driving alone in her 07 Volvo stationwagon on a routine errand down the I-83 interstate at 65 mph on a straight section when she heard a loud bang; like someone had shot at the car on the right side. Having been unnerved by the loud noise and not knowing what it was, she took the exit ramp slowly, and the car slid out a bit to the right like it was on ice, but there was no ice present. Upon inspection later, the right rear coil spring had snapped in two. We took it to the dealership, and after some haggling and a call to Volvo factory, they replaced the spring (no charge for the part, but we had to pay the labor). Additionally, they agreed to a loaner for the couple of days it was at the dealership. Volvo factory agreed to open a "good will review" file and alerted the dealership. I was 936 miles out of warrantee. They said there was no recall, but agreed to paying for the part. No one could answer whether the other coils might snap spontaneously. They looked "ok".

4 Rear Suspension Coil Springs problem of the 2004 Volvo XC70

Failure Date: 06/17/2010

2004 Volvo Xc70 wagon, 89,000 miles. Front left coil spring broke while car parked in driveway (fine previous evening, obvious clunking sound when turning out of driveway in morning). Loud noise when turning steering wheel, car not drivable. Mechanic found spring badly corroded, fractured near bottom of coils. Volvo dealership's parts department informed mechanic they were "stocking plenty of springs. " this vehicle had a similar break in the left rear spring 8 weeks previously. Car is used as commuter vehicle and has never been off-road (4 whl drive sold as "cross country") or used in commercial service or for carrying heavy loads.

5 Rear Suspension Coil Springs problem of the 2004 Volvo XC70

Failure Date: 12/05/2009

I had a coil spring break on the front of my 2004 Volvo Xc70. I had it replaced 3 weeks ago. Tonight, another coil spring in the rear passenger snapped (really loud!!! I can't imagine flying metal is safe). I'm just glad neither incident happened while we were driving. That makes 2 coil springs in less than a month.
