1 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2019 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

The vehicle suddenly accelerates itself. This is especially true in low speeds. There have been numerous times that I am driving slowly in a parking ramp and the vehicle will just shoot forward as though I am pressing the gas pedal, when I am not! I am grateful that no one was injured due to this - but this is dangerous and Honda needs to listen and do something.

2 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2016 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

The design defect on this Acura is that the vehicle suffers from "sudden acceleration," after depressing the accelerator the vehicle continues to accelerate for various seconds. The same issue happens when the vehicle slows down after pressing the brake when arriving to an intersection, after releasing the brake when getting ready to stop the vehicle will continue to accelerate, causing a tremendous hazard and risk of death for an accident to people in other vehicles, pedestrians, and occupants of the vehicle itself. I took the vehicle for repair at your Acura dealership in mission viejo, California (see enclosed back up documents), and the service specialist from Acura recommended me to pay for additional services over and beyond my still existing warranty (warranty is valid until 03/2020), like a software update and an transmission flush, stating it would repair the condition. Well, the condition was never fix and the risk of accident still remained. I took the vehicle on a second occasion to the same dealership, and this time, since they have already taken my money on the previous service, declined to do any more repairs arguing that condition (sudden acceleration) is not considered hazardous by Acura USA, and that it happens to other Acura vehicle with this type of transmission, and therefore they wouldn't do anything to fix it. On this second time I recorded the conversations with the service consultants and with the service manager, in case I had to escalate this issue further like I'm doing now or take further legal actions in this regard. I also had multiple phone conversation with the Acura client relationships, stating my issue and your representatives didn't offer any help, they only indicated I'd have to deal with dealership directly, even though he's a representative of the name, Acura USA. (see enclosed letter to you for more information).

5 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2017 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 02/01/2018

On several occasions as I reduce speed, the car suddenly accelerates when I release the break to start accelerating again. The acceleration happen when you are going at slow speed. The first time I took it to the dealership it had happened in 4 occasions and I had atributed the incident to lack of experience in driving a new car. Because it happened in front of my daughters school and in theory I could have actually killed a child I promptly deliver it to the dealership. During the test drive with the technician, the car changed gears from the comfort mode to sport mode on its own. Because it was a safety issue, they informed me that an engineer from Acura would come and inspect the unit. After a week with my car, they just did an update into the transmission software - and informed me they were unable to recreate the issue. Thirty three days later while dropping my dad at his dialysis at a turn - the car went form 3 miles to 25 miles, and it was fortunate that it was 5:45 in the morning since I could certainly would have cause an accident considering I almost ran a light. I called the dealership and on February 1, dropped again the vehicle at the dealership. 11 days later I called back to follow up and was informed by the service manager that Acura should have contacted me on Friday February 9 to let me know that they would be sending an engineer to check the vehicle again. Our concern is that this is a safety issue documented on two previous complaints in this forum, that constitute a serious risk for my family and community. At 11:00 am on February 12 I have yet to hear from Acura although they are aware of the issue.

6 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2005 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 03/24/2015

I, along with my wife, pulled out of the parking slot with seat belts securely fastened and started driving. After a few seconds the car went into sudden acceleration. I had no control on brakes or accelerator. I had to find a way to stop the car. I steer the car on to middle curb of the parking lot. First I hit the gate, which was flexible and did not stop the car. Next thing I hit was a light pole. The car stopped with both air bags deployed, lot of damage to car (completely totaled) and causing personal injury to me and my wife who was in the passenger seat. Due to the speed of the car, the concrete base was lifted from the ground and the pole fell in front away from the car. We both checked into the hospital immediately after the crash. This was caused by manufacturing defect in the car. The reason I say this is because: a) I just left the prayer hall, where I go frequently and am familiar with the surrounding where other cars are parked and moving, people are walking to and from their cars, and had no reason to accelerate; b) I have been driving accident free for past 39 years, my driving record speaks for itself; c) driving is required in the profession I am in, where I have to visit clients few times a week; d) I am familiar with the car because I have been driving this car for over 4 years. E) I am a family man and not a reckless driver. I care too much for my family, and especially my grandson, to take a chance like this; f) I am perfectly healthy and conscious about my surroundings. It has been six weeks and we are still experiencing pain from the injury. I believe something needs to be done to avoid such incidents in future. This crash could have been fatal.

Failure Date: 01/26/2014

Car experienced unintended acceleration in a shopping center parking lot. 4th time this has occurred (very intermittent). Car was stopped while in drive waiting for traffic in front of me when the engine starting revving. . . Had to keep my foot down on the brake to avoid hitting the fellow in front of me. Forced the gear shift back into neutral then revving subsided. Took car to dealership who thought problem might be related to intermittent disruption between electronic control master and power control master modules. . Dealer said they "relearned" the connection between the two modules.

12 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2002 Acura MDX

13 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2004 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 05/16/2010

I experienced a terrifying event of sudden acceleration. I was pulling into a church parking lot yesterday morning and had almost come to a full stop when suddenly the engine revved and the car took off (a witness said the horn beeped as it happened; I don't remember, I was so busy trying to control the car and the engine was loud, like a teen-ager in a drag race). I kept braking and turned the wheel sharply to avoid hitting the fence in front of me but couldn't get it to stop. It was like it was demon-possessed. I hit a glancing blow to a transformer and a tree and hit two backyard fences. A metal pole of the fence got caught in the right tire and I stopped before going into a swimming pool. The engine quieted down somewhat simultaneously. I'm not sure yet whether it happened because of something installed in the car originally as it has not yet been investigated by our insurance company but we haven't had any recent repair to the accelerator or had any serious problems with this car before this.

14 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2003 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 02/23/2005

As I was backing-up in parking lot, the car suddenly accelerated. After traveling ~ 20' at an accelerated pace, the rear of the car hit a concrete ballard. Upon impact the car jumped into a forward gear, accelerated forward and hit a parked car. If not for the parked car, our Acura Mdx would have plowed into a store front.
