2 Cruise Control problem of the 2020 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 01/11/2021

While driving at highway speeds with the adaptive cruise control engaged, the vehicle detects vehicles to the right (same direction of travel) or at times vehicles to the left (opposite direction of travel) and abruptly applied backing. No vehicles will actually be in lane of travel of the vehicle to cause action. On a 87 mile drive (one way to work) happens more than eight times on first drive and over ten time on second drive. Vehicle has under 1500 miles on it and was purchased brand new. Taken to Acura and told to turn off lane departure system unless in city traffic. System turned off and did not correct issue. The abrupt braking causes drivers behind to abruptly brake, increasing risk of crash, and also angers them because they think you are brake checking them. Weather was cloudy or clear.

3 Cruise Control problem of the 2017 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 09/03/2020

The vehicle consistently ignores the miles-per-hour set on the cruise controls - - exceeding the mph by over 5 miles per hour or even more. This is a safely hazard plus can easily lead to speeding tickets. I have noticed this happening many times on highways (normally with a speed limit of 55 - 65.

4 Cruise Control problem of the 2002 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 06/11/2020

This started a long time ago. My engine would rev up and I would have to push my breaks so hard to slow or stop. A mechanic finally found it was the cruise control sticking. The part was sold $800. I got it fixed but thought this was very dangerous. It also would not go back into gear after I would stop the engine when this would happen. I would go into the manual release tab to finally get going again.

5 Cruise Control problem of the 2019 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 03/07/2020

The vehicle is equipped with safety features which are designed to alert you if braking is required and to brake to avoid a collision the vehicle also has active cruise control which is designed to slow your vehicle when a vehicle enters your lane with in a pre set distance. Cruise control: while driving on the freeway using active cruise control my vehicle slowed down from 70 to 45 no vehicles entered my lane I was passed on my left by a vehicle doing 80 plus. This happened twice with in twenty minutes. I drove through costco at under 5mph no vehicles infront of me my safety system stopped my vehicle. No cars just one pedestrian on the passenger side. I have been stopped a red light when my brake warning indicator flased this should only happen when I am moving and need to brake to avoid hitting someone or something not when I am already stopped also happens when using the vehicles brake hold feature.

7 Cruise Control problem of the 2018 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 01/09/2019

The cruise control engages and the car takes off from a dead stand still when resume button is bumped. It is my understanding cruise control should not engage from a standstill or slow speed. I discovered this after the dealer serviced the car and the tech had turned on the cruise the resume button pertrudes out from the stearing wheel and as I was coasting through a turn on the dealers lot the car launched forward I took my foot off the gas peddle but it continued to excel. I took the car right back to the service department and was told I must have bumped the resume button while turning and thats what caused it to unexpectedly excel. I asked, it engages at a virtual 4-5 mph crawl? even when no previous speed has been entered since the car was started? the service writer stopped the car, took his foot off the brake and he demonstrated how I must have bumped the resume as I was turning. He bumped the resume and the car launched off on its own from a complete standstill. He said it was a normal Acura trait but shouldnt exceed 25-30 mph. He said he had a subara that does the same thing. He said customers frequently complain about it being a safety hazard and he suggested we just be sure the cruise master control is turned off every time we start the car. I tried this with all my other vehicles and none of them even engaged cruise under 25 mph. This is in my opinion a very serious unexpected excelling problem that should be addressed.

8 Cruise Control problem of the 2014 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 05/20/2015

Unintentional acceleration and failure of collision mitigation system 2014 Acura Mdx advanced. Accident occurred at a strip mall parking lot located 1 mile from my residence where I was grocery shopping. Weather 65 f sunny. Heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic. I was parked head in diagonally. I placed my right foot on the brake pedal, placed the SUV in reverse, lifted my right foot from the brake pedal, depressed the accelerator pedal and slowly backed out of the parking space, straightening the wheels in the process. I placed my right foot on the brake, shifted to drive, and placed my right foot on the accelerator pedal and without actually depressing the pedal the engin reved uncontrollably and the SUV surged forward 100 ft at increasing speed before colliding in a domino fashion with a row of 6 vehicles pushing one of the vehicles over one of the adjacent vehicles before veering off to the side and traveling an additional 200 feet before coming to a stop. The drivers side chest and knee bags deployed when I impacted with the first vehicle. I do not remember if I attempted to brake. There were no injuries. The damages to my SUV were extensive. My insurer declared it a total loss. I have photos taken at the scene of the accident showing skid marks and the damages to the vehicles before they were moved. My insurer had my vehicle examined by an automotive technician. He concluded that I simultaneously stepped on the brake and accelerator because of the pedal ware pattern. Also the diagnostic port did not show an error code. He did not examine the event data recorder (black box). I do not agree with his conclusions. I believe I did not step on the pedals simultaneously. In retrospect I believe that I accidentally engaged one of the cruise control buttons located on the steering wheel when I was backing up and straightening the wheels.

9 Cruise Control problem of the 2014 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 10/10/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Acura Mdx. The contact stated that upon using the cruise control feature, if a vehicle slowed down in speed and the system functioned but if a large sized truck was near the vehicle the sensor caused the vehicle to drastically reduce highway speeds to a low rate of speed less than 20 mph. The contact experienced the failure more than three times in which the vehicle suddenly reduced speeds. The contact was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 15v301000 (forward collision avoidance). The vehicle was to be taken to an authorized dealer for further inspection and diagnosis. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 18,000. Dyd.

10 Cruise Control problem of the 2014 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 05/12/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Acura Mdx. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph with the adaptive cruise control activated, the brakes independently engaged. The failure recurred on a separate occasion. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 1,030. Js.

11 Cruise Control problem of the 2014 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 05/12/2014

Traveling 65 mph on a freeway with adaptive cruise control (acc) engaged, vehicle suddenly brakes hard on its own for no apparent reason; dropping 10 mph in a heartbeat. The vehicle did not produce a collision warning message on the dash. The cars in front on me were well beyond the longest 4 bar range of the acc so it was not detecting and locked onto a car in front of me. There were no cars on either side, no car crossing in front of me and the road was flat with no obstacles. Fortunately, the car behind me was not tailgating as the sudden deceleration could have caused a rear end collision. Sudden deceleration has happened twice during the six weeks I've owned this vehicle. I've also noticed that the acc is inconsistent, often sluggish, in responding to the speed of traffic when it is detecting a car in front of me; creating additional hazard concerns for the driver.

12 Cruise Control problem of the 2014 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 03/16/2014

Our vehicle is an Acura Mdx 2014 with the advance package. One feature of the package is adaptive cruise control which aims to keep the vehicle moving at a steady rate and at a set distance from any vehicle in front of it. On several occasions, when vehicles in front of ours slows down or a vehicle merges from another lane in front of us (even transiently), instead of gradually braking and speeding up, the Acura performs sudden deceleration with hard braking even if the vehicle in front is doing the same speed or going only slightly slower. After the hard braking starts, if the vehicle in front speeds up, our vehicle does not recover and start to accelerate again. I have a pregnant wife who is the main driver of the car and I am concerned that this problem will cause her to be rear-ended.

13 Cruise Control problem of the 2001 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 12/08/2004

2001 Acura. While driving last evening in 35 mph zone. Pushed and released the "set speed" button on steering wheel to maintain safe, legal speed. Car immediately started to accelerate. I let it go to see if it would cease; it did not, so finally at 60 mph, I tapped the brake to disengage and slow down to correct speed. Tried to reproduce, once, did not recur. But scary event nonetheless.
