Acura MDX owners have reported 120 problems related to vehicle speed control (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Acura MDX based on all problems reported for the MDX.
1. The car accelerates by intself. The accelaration is like "hiccups". When reversing and changing to d gear, it takes longer than usual for the accelarion to take effect. Yes, car is available for inspections 2. It is dangerus because it gets the hiccups even at high speeds. If it is a serious egine problem, which seems like it is, could cause an accident. 3. The car was taken to the dealership for 3 recalls but it got worse after the recalls were fixed. Supposedly the recalls were supposed to fix the issues. We have not taken it back yet. 4. There is no lights or warnings when it does it.

When cruising or coming off a stop, my car is incapable of accelerating promptly if I am trying to get out of the way or even merge into oncoming traffic on a highway. There is a severe acceleration delay perhaps with the throttle body. I have seen online complaints but the dealership said there has to be an actual recall number to correct this. My car has been in several times to fix this. A computer reset did not work. My car is one year old.

Malfunction: road mitigation system failed (rdm), lane keeping assist system (lkas) failed, and cruse control failed, after investigating the issue this is happening with multiple vehicles. Safety: yes, these all failed at the same time, poses significant safety issues for the diver, passengers, and other drivers due to nature of failure. Conformation: at this time no inspection of the vehicle has transpired. No other waning lamps or messages, prior to suddenly showing up today 6/18/25.
My 2018 Acura Mdx experiences a persistent and unsafe delay in acceleration from a complete stop. When pressing the gas pedal, there is often a hesitation of approximately one second before the vehicle responds. This throttle lag creates a serious safety concern, especially when attempting to merge into traffic, turn across intersections, or respond quickly in emergency situations. The dealership has been unable to resolve the issue despite applying all available software updates. Based on online reports, this appears to be a widespread issue affecting multiple model years and drivetrains.

While driving at freeway speeds (70–85 mph), I experience a sudden and complete loss of acceleration when pressing the gas pedal fully. The vehicle stops responding to throttle input entirely for 1–2 seconds. To regain power, I must take my foot off the pedal for a moment and then press it again. This has happened multiple times and presents a severe safety hazard when merging, passing, or trying to avoid collisions. •frequency & reproducibility: this has occurred at least 3 times over the past year, under similar conditions. It is intermittent, but consistently happens during high-speed acceleration. •dealership response: I’ve reported the issue to the dealership, but they claim they cannot replicate the problem and do not consider it a concern. No resolution or inspection has been offered beyond a basic check. •why it’s dangerous: this issue could lead to a deadly accident if I’m unable to accelerate in time to avoid a crash. It creates a sudden and unexpected loss of control at highway speeds.

Car loosing power.
The contact owned a 2019 Acura Mdx. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle experienced a sudden jolt. The contact immediately depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle erroneously accelerated to a high rate of speed. The contact depressed the brake pedal, shifted to neutral, and to the park position but the vehicle continued to increase speed eventually crashing into several vehicles that were stopped at a red light. The vehicle then crashed into a moving vehicle where it came to a stop. The contact indicated that during the incident four vehicles were crashed into and the vehicle's collision avoidance system did not activate as intended. The contact sustained an injured back which later required medical treatment. A second motorist sustained an undisclosed eye injury. No further information was available. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed to the home. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was a total loss. The manufacturer and local dealer were not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 22,229.

Hello, so far 4 to 5 times my Mdx automatically shifted to neutral gear at traffic signals. Then vehicle stops and not moves, I wouldn't be able to change the gear, the vehicle just seems stuck. Couple of times the cars behind almost crashed with my family in the car. Only options is to power off the car and restart. I took to the dealer, they ran all the tests and nothing found in the debugging. Looking online, looks like many customers have experienced the problem with Acura vehicles [xxx] ). This is a huge safety concern as I feel we are sitting ducks for any fast moving vehicle. Can you please get Honda/Acura to rectify this problem for existing cars and not to play with customer lives information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Upon turning right, the car lost power, degraded acceleration as if someone is holding and pulling the car to move forward. The traffic behind me expected me to cathup with the speed on the road but due to loss of power and engine hesitation I got honked and was luck to avoid a crash from behind on a busy road. Acura dealership in dallas dont have parts since a very long time. They have pleant of new cars to sell but not repair.
I stopped at a stop sign and the car went into n without me changing anything. The car wouldnt go back to d or p mode even when I pressed the buttons. I had to turn off the car and turn it on again to make it function properlty. This happened twice within 5 mins.
The contact owns a 2019 Acura Mdx. The contact stated that while his wife was traveling on interstate 75 and driving 85 mph, the vehicle independently slowed down, failed to accelerate, and shut off. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
Cruise control does not hold speed during transition from downhill coast to uphill acceleration. If set at 70mph on an interstate and car goes down a hill, coasting may slow to 68. When uphill is immediately encountered, speed drops to 64-65mph before finally accelerating to 70. Many trucks get very close and some honk because of the slowdown. Some road rage has been received. Also, throttle lags 0. 5-1. 0 seconds when transitioning from complete stop. Rear end collision has almost occurred when other drivers proceed to move forward and this car doesn’t move.
All safety system alerts appeared while driving on the highway saying there were failures with all of the safety systems. Electronic steering suddenly stopped working and vehicle slowed down forcibly until its stop in the middle of the highway. I had to call roadside assistance to get the car towed to the dealership. All error messages came on, the vehicle electric power steering, vsa , hill start assist, trailer stability assist problem, collision mitigation & vehicle kept stopping itself while driving, road departure. Lane keeping assist all error messages came on.

This car only has 2500 miles on it. When it was just driven a few weeks in January, 2024, the car would start jerking while driving down the highway going a consistent 55-60 miles per hour. We took it back to the dealer in st. Louis and they told us they were unable to duplicate. We drove it a few more weeks and in February the jerking was more pronounced and more often so we took it back. Again, they said they could find nothing wrong with it. It ran pretty good until mid March when I drove it to florida for a 6 week break in my wife’s cancer treatment. The car jerked a lot and broke down completely 3 times. I was able to restart the first two times but the third time it took a while and I was stalled in heavy traffic on i75 north of gainesville. Luckily, a trucker pulled up behind me and put on his flashers to keep me from being hit. After sitting there several minutes, it did restart and I drove to ft. Myers where I took it to the Acura dealer there, scanlon Acura. They, too, ran diagnostics and said nothing showed up. I drove it to our condo and it died before I could turn into my driveway. I called triple a to come tow it back. This time they gave me a loaner, said they checked it out and the manager drove it over night to his home. They said it had water in the gas tank and we had to pay for the draining as that is not covered. When I picked the car up the maintenance sheet also stated a leaky valve but said there was no water in the gas tank. I had to request my money back and asked about the valve. Was told it was a mistake. On Saturday, 3/ 23/24, my wife was driving to an appointment down highway 41 and after about 35 min, the car started jerking badly so she pulled into a parking lot when it shifted into park on its own and died. She had to have it towed backed to scanlon Acura. They they called yesterday and said the computer says nothing is wrong. This car is a death trap and we have to return home for her treatment in a few weeks.
I was in a parking mode and was leaving the parking lot. I reversed my car lo leave, and the car went out of control and was not until it crashed on two other parked cars that came to a stop. Then, after reversing my car, when trying to put it into drive, it would not move. When I tried to turn it off, the engine (re) started again and it worked so I could clear the path for other cars and wait until the police came. I had major maintenance at Acura hopkins 2 and 3 years ago, I had a new steering pump and hoses changed 5 months ago and new front and rear brakes 3 months ago. Many people who are familiar with cars tell me that it was probably the rings. I don't know it may be the transmission? there was a police report as there were two other cars involved and both with severe damages. State farm considered my car totaled despite the large amount of money spent to bring this car to almost new condition.

Sunday 2/42004 the car just shut off on me brakes stop working could turn could stop.
I was yielding to make a left hand turn , in the middle of the intersection, and my car turned off and wouldn’t turn back on. In addition the car occasionally jerks as I’m driving almost like if it changes gear. Sometimes I can’t get the car in park position I have to press the button multiple times. The recall going on right now can cause a fire crash or injury and they cannot replace the parts until April 2024 and I don’t feel safe driving my car.
I've experienced stop and stall issues with my vehicle three times and the Acura dealership said they couldn't locate but kept my vehicle for a few days and said it was the battery. I have a new battery but same issue occurred two more times. There is definitely an electrical problem with this vehicle's system. The radio randomly stops working, no sound or buttons stop at any given time and also heat/air buttons switch by themselves. Shift paddles sometimes does not slow down vehicle, in most cases it accelerates.
When stopping for traffic or at a light and accelerating for take off the car has a delay. It does nothing. It’s a 2sec delay that will be deadly to someone.
The engien keep stalling, prolem accelerating jurky transmisión and this is the only car I have to go work I take the highway everyday I am cosern that something can happend to me.
The contact owns a 2019 Acura Mdx. The contact stated that occasionally while accelerating, at a stop, or while driving, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. While driving at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated to 80 mph. Additionally, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brakes activated independently. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon returning the vehicle, the warning lights were flashing or beeping without a light. The steering wheel was loose. The steering wheel also turned a third of the way, but the wheels failed to respond. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 23v751000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.
On 8/20/23 heading south on I-294 in chicago : in center lane with cruise control on and no cars close in front of me when the car suddenly started a hard braking without warning. No orange warning to brake came on but engine warning light of left of dashboard was on. Immediately turned off cruise control. Car would not accelerate and came to a stop on the highway. Tried to start without success, then restarted and the car came on but in neutral. It had been placed in park before shutting off. Car started and drove uneventfully back to indianapolis. Took to Acura dealer and diagnostics were run showing that "position range" switch or sensor had been activated. Told it was safe to drive. We do not agree and are selling the car. Dealer, or service dept was very lackadaisical about the incident. I will contact Acura corporate headquarters as well.
When putting the vehicle in "drive" it unexpectantly rapidly accelerated causing me to aggressively brake the vehicle. It's happened twice and could easily have crashed into surrounding property or pedestrians. I brought the vehicle to the dealership but considering it is an intermittent problem they couldn't duplicate the situation. Acura said they have no record of anything like this happening. There were no electronic lights or indicators that warned me of a malfunction. The first occurrence was several months ago, and the latest occurrence happened two days ago.
Great hesitation, in acceleration, clicking of gears and drive and while putting in reverse also clicking of the years when accelerating.
While braking into a parking spot, vehicle experienced sudden unintended acceleration. Brake did not engage, car rapidly surged forward over parking block, sidewalk and hitting building. Previously in day, car would not recognized key fob, would not unlock and would not start even though stepping on brake that would not depress. I had no control over vehicle, and this could have hit pedestrians on sidewalk or storefront. Thankfully no one hurt, and did not occur in traffic or on the road. The dealership was contacted immediately, and they declined to inspect vehicle, codes or edr statign that's not what they do. I have asked dealership 3 times. Insurance contacted immediately, and they to will not investigate, saying up to Honda and dealership. Honda stating they don't do investigations, and insurance should do that. Round and round we go. No one assisting. Auto body referred by dealership unable to investigate and do not have equipment to do so and stating dealership and Honda tech needs to do this investigation. Several messages displayed the day of incident prior to incident and electrical issues seem to have started immediately after recall or warranty work to reprogram auto stop function. First instance of electrical issue was on 4/1, when car would not open, or unlock even with new battery in key fob. This continued over next 3 weeks sporadically. 4/24 car would not start, displaying "must press down brake" to start, but brake would not depress. Finally worked. Same thing 4/25 in morning. In evening car would not unlock for some time, finally opened, then would not start displaying "key fob not detected". Finally started. Message remained displayed. 15 min ,after, when parking, car accelerated forward without warning. This is a short summary, and a detailed summary is available. Vehicle remains untouched at autonomy hoping to get investigation completed. Too scared to drive this vehicle now. .
At highway speeds, the transmission unexpectedly shifts to neutral with no warning. The only indication is unexpected decrease in speed and accompanying engine rev. My typical driver response is to take foot off accelerator, then put back on again. Engine overrevs then shifts in to gear. I'd estimate it's out of gear for ~ 5 seconds, but hard to say in the heat of the driving moment. This happens 1-2x most highway trips, but not occur at lower speeds (it does not shift very smoothly in lower gears at times, but it's not currently a safety issue). I've taken it to my local dealer (hendrick Acura, durham, nc) and contacted Acura customer care, and am trying to get a diagnostic scheduled (it's been a process). The behavior started to worsen over the past several months (e. G. The slip to neutral has lengthened in time) but shorter slips have been occurring for a longer time period.
It seems that, from the day we purchased the vehicle, there have been issues with the transmission regarding how it is programmed and how it responds to drive or input through the throttle. This causes the vehicle the occasionally lurch forward under acceleration, especially at low speeds in the parking lot. And times the throttle gets really confused and the transmission fails to deliver power to the vehicle for a second. This has happened to me two or three times. I was turning left when the vehicle lost power momentarily and oncoming traffic was headed straight for me and my vehicle. If the delay had lasted just a while longer, things would have looked very bad. Based on my research online, I am not the only driver experiencing this kind of problem with the transmission.
My car was purchased with 12,000 miles and supposedly worn tires. Because of that, I went to the dealership to get new tires and an alignment since the car was always pulling to the right. My car has been at the dealership four times for the same problem, and they still haven't fixed it. My car continues to constantly pull to the right, and when I use the cruise control, it stays above the other cars to the right, causing it to suddenly pull to the left, deactivating the speed control and losing control. The dealership's recommendation is to stop using the speed control. ".
The contact owns a 2018 Acura Mdx. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed, and the vehicle failed to respond. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was attempting to pull over to the side of the road and depressed the accelerator pedal, but the pedal went to the floorboard, and the vehicle jerked and suddenly stopped. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for an unknown recall for the fuel pump to be repaired and the contact informed the dealer of the failure the vehicle was experiencing. The vehicle was repaired under recall; however, the failure persisted. The local dealer was contacted two more times for the same failure; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
The contact owns a 2022 Acura Mdx. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact stated that the failure occurred at various speeds. The contact stated that the failure had been intermittent but had become a reoccurring failure. Additionally, the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle had not been repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that the windshield had tiny air bubbles inside the glass. The contact stated that during nighttime driving the oncoming headlights created a glare. There was also a glare created by the sunlight, creating an obstacle while driving in the daytime. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
I was driving down the highway at 70 mph and the vehicle is “jerking” like I am breaking then proceeded to fail to accelerate and keep up with my rpms.

First on off glitching when ever accessory mode is used while in motion, first brakelight had warning then warning about trailer stability assist. When I went in reverse, the whole dashboard including the navigation screen went black and the car felt like the engine stopped. This happened a few times. I don't think the engine actually stopped though because I did not have to restart the car. The brake light error message has occurred driving forward as well, but not accompanied by the blackout of the dash and nav panel. Steering becane stiffer all of this happened while in motion.
Problem started 1 month ago. As I approached the round about I am at very slow speed, and for no action on my part, my Mdx accelerates! fortunately it has only happened as my vehicle is coasting or I am applying the break slowly. This is happening more and more. It has over 20k miles on it.
