1 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2007 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

My wife went outside of our home to get into her Acura 2007 Mdx to go to work. When she started the vehicle up, it started shaking and blowing out white smoke from the exhaust pipes with an unusual noise. She turned the vehicle off and called our insurance company which sent a tow truck out to take it to the dealer. After the service representative accepted the vehicle and had his mechanic inspect it to see what caused the smoking. The mechanic informed the service representative that the air compressor malfunctioned and caused an electrical shortages. This was the reason for the air compressor why the air compressor were blowing freon into the engine and caused it to smoke when the engine started. We have never miss a service and followed the recommended required maintenance. I ask the service representative what would it cost to have my wife's SUV repaired? the price the service representative gave was an estimation of $1,900. 00 plus labor. The service representative told me there was nothing he could because the warranty had expired and there were no recalls on this issue. Just because there are no safety record on file doesn't mean that the dealer should not look into the hazard. What if this problem occurred while my wife was on her way to work, and all this freon and smoke were released inside her vehicle and caused her to have an accident? my wife and I have purchased 4 vehicles from Acura brand new off the showroom floor. It appears to me that every time the warranty run out our cars, we begin to have mechanical issues which lead me to believe one or two things; either the mechanics are taking short cuts in performing the maintenance or the car workmanship is not what Acura say it is. The way that I feel about my tl and my wife's Mdx that we will never buy another Acura vehicle.

2 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2010 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

Exhaust entering cabin while under acceleration or under load. The exhaust entered cabin especially when the hvac system was in "recirc" the dealer and Acura were unable to find the problem after multiple visits. I documented that carbon monoxide was building up inside to alarming levels using a real-time industrial gas detector levels exceeding 160ppm while pulling a ~3000 lbs boat on the interstate with a slight head wind. (being measured from front seat/ I have video recordings of this and other documentation showing the buildup after normal acceleration entering interstate etc. The actual problem was discovered when I personally was inspecting the vehicle and found both rear body plugs missing. They are at the rear of the vehicle one on each side that leads to the interior or the vehicle. Once pointed out to the dealer they were embarrassed and fixed immediately. The plugs were loose fitting so they glued them in. The issue now seems to be resolved. I have noticed several other internet postings with similar issues. It is a safety issue in my mind because of the CO if your driving normally against the wind and the hvac is in "recirc" the levels will build up >35ppm especially in high winds or higher altitudes and you can't smell it. . 3 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2007 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 04/15/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Acura Mdx. The contact smelled oil burning in the vehicle. Upon inspecting the vehicle, he noticed that the vehicle was leaking oil from the pc valve onto the exhaust pipe. The dealer advised the contact that the vehicle could be repaired at his expense. The manufacturer confirmed the dealers statement and told the contact that the warranty was void since he tampered with the vehicle and removed parts from it. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 47,000.

4 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2009 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 11/20/2009

My 2009 Mdx with 3500+ miles has been taken to dealer 3 times in the last month. Once I had to get it towed to dealership. First time I was told that they was issue with poor quality timing belt pulley. So timing belt got shredded. They had to replace the both. They took almost week to replace it. With in a day, 2009 Mdx developed issue. This time there was an issue with catalytic converter. They took another week to replace. Again with in two days, "check emission system" came up again. This time I was told they would have to replace another catalytic converter and also sub converters. I am really concerned about the quality this vehicle.

5 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2002 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 10/13/2009

On October 13, 2009, at about 12:45, I provided my 2002 Acura Mdx to jerry damson Acura, huntsville, alabama for the 82,500 mile service. At about 1:15 I received a call from the service department stating that two engine mounts were broken. The price would be about $500. Although I was concerned how engine mount failures could happen on a vehicle with this mileage, I agreed to have it repaired for obvious safety reasons. Later that day I discovered other complaints on the internet for broken engine mounts for this vehicle. When I arrived at jerry damson Acura to pick it up, I advised the service person that I felt Acura should pay for this. The Acura service manager, gil williams, was called-in to discuss this problem with me. He stated that they/Acura would not pay for this. I asked how a failure of this nature could happen at this mileage. After some discussion he stated that the catalytic converter is located near these particular engine mounts and contributes to increased temperature in the area, resulting in failure of these engine mounts. He further stated that he had previously discussed this problem with Acura and they advised him to sell it as a maintenance item. I stated this was an obvious design defect that Acura or jerry damson should pay for. He said they would not. I asked him to elevate this to the jerry damson general manager. He refused to do that. He provided me with the phone number for Acura client services, he would do nothing else. I reluctantly paid for this broken engine mounts repair at $483 in order to retrieve the vehicle. It is a logical deduction that the broken engine mount problem is a design defect since he admitted the catalytic converters proximity to the engine mounts contributes to this early failure. Its therefore clear that this repair cost should be borne by Acura/jerry damson.

6 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2003 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 10/15/2002

Noxious odor inside and outside vehicle due to catalytic converter overworking. Acura insists this is normal and has advised us to continue driving car while causing my family to become nauseous and sick from the smell. They insist that hydrogen sulfide is environmentally safe but research indicates that this chemical causes damage to the respiratory system. Acura has refused to correct this problem and has advised us to pursue litigous means. I do not understand why my car smell is so potent while other Mdx's do not smell.
