1 Engine problem of the 2005 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 06/02/2011

2005 Acura Mdx rear main seal failure around 70000 miles. Most of the maintenace is conducted by owner with genuine Acura parts purchased on-line at bernardi Acura, massachusetts. Notice oil stain in garage around 70000 miles, now at 76000 in dripping so I took it to dealer in fayetteville, nc for inspection and repair. Asked for help from manufacturer to mitigate cost but was denied base on dealer service history. Have read more complaints in forums. To me this is a defective part. To replace a $10. 00 seal cost over $1000. 00.

2 Engine problem of the 2005 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 07/23/2009

I have a 2005 Acura Mdx and felt the car noisy while driving after a while the vsa light came on and stayed on. Thank god I purchased an extended warranty because this happened 1 month after the manufacturers warranty expire. They had to replace the transmission at a cost of $3900.

3 Engine problem of the 2003 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 12/01/2008

State inspection failed due to defective motor mounts 86,000 miles on vehicle that otherwise runs like new, we're the original owners, find it unusual to need motor mounts replaced, never needed to replace in other vehicles, I think this is a manufacturers defect.

4 Engine problem of the 2003 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 09/23/2008

I have a very well kept 2003 Acura Mdx touring luxury SUV that retails at more than $45,000 when new. The engine is mounted on 3 engine mounts and I just discovered that 2 of the 3 engine mounts are broken. If the 3rd mount had broken, the engine could shift position resulting in serious consequences. This vehicle was used for normal highway and city driving (no off highway driving). After doing some research, it appears Acura under-designed this part making these engine mounts very prone to failure. Some people reported having to replace engine mounts every 30,000 miles. To make the problem worse, the cost of repair is about $1,000 which makes it likely for people to postpone repairs until a crash happens. I firmly believe that this problem should be part of a safety recall campaign.

5 Engine problem of the 2002 Acura MDX

6 Engine problem of the 2001 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 03/16/2007

-the contact stated that while driving the 2001 Acura Mdx,on a clear dry day at 50 mph the vehicle made a jerking motion and felt as if the vehicle went into park. The vehicle skidded on the road, it shifted into gear , and the rpms were high. The vehicle didn't lose power, but did lose acceleration. He was able to put the foot on the accelerator and proceed, but the vehicle would only go about 30-35 mph. The contact took the vehicle to the dealership, and they informed him that the transmission was ruined and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that this vehicle had 125,000 miles, and the replacement of the transmission totaled $4,100, the dealership replaced the transmission. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealership due to a noise from the engine. The dealership informed him that the engine mount sheared. The contact stated that this was going to cost him another $500. 00. There was recall o4v176000 concerning the powertrain: automatic transmission, but this vehicle was not includede in the recall. The current mileage was 126,000.

Motor mounts need replacement after only 40,000 miles.

8 Engine problem of the 2006 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 05/06/2006

Topic: uncommanded acceleration; lack of acceleration; incidents occurred over the course of 3 weeks (used 2006 Acura Mdx purchased on April 12, 2010). Shortly after purchase, vehicle exhibited "stumble" when accelerator was pushed. That is, the engine rpm decreased with increasing pedal pressure. Pressing down aggressively resulted in engine idle condition. This occurred 0. 5 miles from home. Problem did not continue the next morning. On may 3, 2010, while coasting through an intersection at approximately 35mph, vehicle suddenly accelerated without pedal input. Cruise control light was observed on (cruise control had not been engaged prior to incident). Light brake pressure stopped acceleration and vehicle returned to normal operation. On may 6, 2010, vehicle "stumble" re-occurred. Pulling through an intersection while pressing on accelerator, vehicle rpm dropped. More accelerator pressure resulted in more rpm drop. Pulled to side of road and stopped. With vehicle in neutral or park, engine responds normally to accelerator. Putting vehicle in any forward gear, problem persists. I was able to slowly accelerate with very gentle accelerator pressure, but rate of acceleration was very slow and potentially dangerous due to heavy rush hour traffic. I was able to slowly drive the vehicle approximately 3 miles back to the used car dealer where the vehicle was bought. At end of trip, vehicle was unable to climb a modest incline and I had to stop. Turned off engine hoping that problem would clear. Waited several minutes and tried to re-start. Took several attempts before engine would "catch" and run normally. Was able to slowly climb the incline back to the car lot. Problem persisted at used car lot. Vehicle was towed the next morning to Acura dealership in chapel hill, nc. Problem cleared and dealer was unable to observe symptoms. Dealer claims that there are no anomalous computer codes. I believe vehicle is unsafe to drive.
