Tl the contact owns a 2016 Acura Mdx. When the vehicle accelerated after slowing down, the transmission slipped and the vehicle stalled several times when making turns. In addition, the vehicle made an abnormal chirping sound from the engine compartment, which distracted the driver. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The dealer had not been notified; however, the contact planned to take the vehicle to finlady Acura (315 auto mall dr, henderson, nv 89014) for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and did not assist. The failure mileage was 34,000.

Transmission has jerks and slips. These problems were addressed to dealership 4 times after purchase. First two visits they changed transmission software. Each time transmission worked worse then before update. On 3 and 4th visit answer was - "this is Acura's design". On Jan 21 current year while trying to start from intersection turning to the right transmission lost any traction/torgue for 1-2 seconds after start moving. Engine rpm went up to 6-7 rpm without any traction to the wheels. This almost led to the accident but truck driver moving straight was able to break in and change his trajectory. On Jan 23d it happened again on stop sign when car refused to start for few seconds while engine rpm was in almost red zone. Both happened on country road. These were the coldest winter days (less than -20 f) and transmission acted worse. All other time it "jerks" and "slips" intermittently during driving without crucial consequences so far. Attached is service report from 2d visit to the service within first month of ownership.
Transmission slips, and hesitates to shift normally and then goes normal again. Vehicle is in motion when this occured ,it happened while crusing at 35 mph, and at 50 mph, street ,and highway. I have taken it into the dealer multiple times to find the issue and anyways end up with no answers, I have been able to find multiple people with the same make and model that have the same issues with their vehicle. I bought this car with 25,000 miles and it now has 125,000 problem has not gotten better or worse has been the same. The brake warning also pops up randomly when no other cars are near.
I have Acura Mdx 2005 model the vsa lights and airbagslights keep coming up intermittently and there is a transmission slips too. I wondered why it was not recalled when others were recalled . The vehicle still moves but noticing a slip in the transmission power.

Transmission occasionally bumps when backing, turning, and changing from one direction to another. There have been times, at different speeds, when there would be a sound as is the vehicle is crossing stop bumps. This has happened on smooth roads while accelerating, maintaining a speed, and decelerating. The transmission stared slipping in 5th gear, and is now beginning to slip in 4th gear.
Transmission slips from between shift 1-2 and 2-3. Car also at times lunges forward while coming to a stop.
I bought a brand new Acura Mdx from bill vince showroom in bridgewater, NJ. I was extremely happy with the car¿s performance until a couple of years ago. When the car hit 75,000 miles, the service manager at the dealership informed me that ¿the car needed a new transmission in the near future. ¿ the service manager did not put in a new transmission at that time. Now, the car needs a new transmission as it is slipping gears and sounds terrible when the car is traveling between 25 and 40 miles per hour. It needs a new transmission. I contacted Acura customer service. They are ready to give me 50% off on a new transmission.

Some gear slippage for a few days prior when first get going in the morning. The day it finally went, it did it suddenly while going about 35 mph. Felt like it kicked a gear or two making the car jerk violently almost causing an accident. I was only a block or so away from home, all the way home it would almost rev to redline while going about 10 mph. The vehicle only has reverse now and I'm going to have to have it towed to a shop locally for a very expensive fix. If I would've had some one closer following me that day and with my kids in the far back I'm afraid to think of what might have happened except a lawsuit!.
The contact owns a 2002 Acura Mdx. The contact stated that the transmission began slipping. The contact was able to locate a recall for the failure (NHTSA campaign id number: 04v176000- power train: automatic transmission) but was advised by the dealer that his vehicle was outside of the mileage limitation of the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage and current mileage was 151,000.
When the car nears 45 mph, the transmission starts slipping. The car starts jerking and almost stops. Fortunately, I was not making a left turn or merging into traffic when it first occurred. I've been told that others have had complete lockups at 55 mph. I'm wondering if any accidents have occurred as a result of this problem. Fortunately, I did not become a fatality. I was very nervous about driving to the repair shop. The transmission is being replaced.

Transmission slipping on 2003 Acura Mdx starting at 73,000. Talked to dealership about it but they said that since the check engine light didn't come on or the transmission light didn't come on there wasn't a problem. Kept driving it and it got worse. Around 78,000 miles had to have water pump, timing belt and engine mounts done (not at dealership); had mechanic check transmission - found it needed to be replaced.
01' Acura transmission slipping, sputtering and locking up. 113,000 miles. Locked up once on interstate with me and my son in the car, and luckily we weren't in the way of anyone or we could have been hit. Found several, several complaints on the internet with people having the same issue. Very dangerous!!.
Am a second owner of 2001 Acura Mdx with 84,000 miles, owned since approx 35000 miles. While driving home the automatic transmission began to slip, causing higher than normal engine speed while up shifting. Down shifting while slowing to a stop caused sudden and severe engine braking and very rough shifting. This could have easily resulted in an accident. No prior issues noticed, and vehicle had major scheduled service in the past. Took to local independent service and was informed transmission was a total loss requiring replacement. Contacted Acura client services, and took to dealer who will only cover 25% of repair. My cost would be nearly $4000. This transmission had a service recall in 2004, but repair doesn't appear to be a good one. Transmission design appears to be defective.
Driving down i78 on thanksgiving and all of the sudden the car stopped responding. Engine was revving but car wasn't accelerating commensurate with the engine. The transmission was slipping. I navigated my way towards the right across a couple of lanes of traffic and made my way to the exit. Got off the interstate and the check engine light came on and the car completely stopped responding. I pulled over and could not move at all - the transmission was gone. Called aaa and had the car towed. I starting researching this and discovered that this was a well known issue for Acura Mdx's of the 2003 vintage. I eventually had the car towed to clinton Acura and of course they told me I needed a new transmission for $4000. I complained and asked if there was anything they could do and they said no. I told them to wait and that I was going to call Acura customer care. I did so and asked them to help defray the cost of the new transmission since it was apparent that they had a deficiency. They took the complaint and request but suggested I needed to make the same request of the dealership. They said the dealer would consult with their local Acura field rep to make a decision. I did as they suggested and about 3 hours later they called me back and said my request was denied. Essentially the vehicle was out of warranty so it was my responsibility. I told them I was very disappointed but I had them do the work. I also called back Acura customer care and told them what happened. Further, I told them I would never purchase another Acura product.
My 2003 Acura Mdx showed no signs of a transmission issue until one day the transmission slipped into neutral without warning. By that I mean no engine lights came on. I pulled over shut the car off and restarted the engine which than went back into gear. This happened occasionally for about a week. I took it to a dealer who checked it out and said there were no issues. Upon leaving the dealership it happened again but this time the engine light came on. I was told by the dealer that the transmission had failed.
Recently experiencing transmission is slipping with my 2002 Mdx, especially going uphill and during acceleration, it hesitates and then violently bangs into gear. Also intermittently, reverse gear does not work as well. There was a transmission recall on this model/year and our car did get serviced for it, the dealer did not replace transmission back in 2004 once we were informed of the recall but an oil jet kit was installed according to the directive of the recall instructions. We've always maintenance our car with the dealer in a timely fashion as recommended by factory maintenance care guideline and recently did a full service which included a transmission flush 2 months ago at 120,000miles. After full diagnostic/assessment of why our transmission is slipping it turns out our transmission fluid (which just got flushed 2months ago) was heating up and filling up with discoloration. This is the exact description of what was recalled in 2004. Our car is currently at the dealer and they have quoted us $4800 to get a new transmission installed (factory remanufactured). I truly believe this failure is related to the 2004 recall. Some folks who have experienced similar situation has been fortunate to have taken their matter to the right dealer, according to some discussion forums on this matter, the dealer agreed to pay for a new transmission (after getting approval from Acura corporate office). In my situation, it has been unfortunate. Please investigate and give us some consistency/continuity on the handling of this matter. Thank you.
Hard shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear in transmission. At a later time the transmission slipped in these two gears causing no acceleration up shifting and sudden severe (lock up) down shifts.
Noticed transmission slippage in 4/06 on my '01 Acura Mdx. Dealer not able to duplicate problem. Yesterday, 2/22/07 with 71000 miles, the transmission, will without warning, appear to suddenly down shift and engine will spike in rpm's as if thrown into neutral. This occurs while driving at 40-40 mpg and causing sudden lost of control due to the forward thrust of the down shift and loss of throttle control. Engine light comes on along with a flashing and d5 indicator light. Very dangerous transmission problem that needs to be addressed.
Regular driving of Acura Mdx. Car transmission slipping between 20-40 mph. Dealer inspected problem and attributed problem to the 3rd gear. Dealer reports recall is only involving 2nd gear therefore I have to pay for transmission repair rebuild.
: the contact stated the transmission was slipping. The dealership was unable to duplicate the problem. A NHTSA recall, # 04v176000 was performed on the vehicle concerning, the power train: automatic transmission however, the recall did not remedy the problem. The dealership did not offer a second repair under the recall.
Transmission failure: Apr 15, 2004: my 2001 Acura Mdx recall on the transmission campaign #04v176000. July 20, 2004: my Acura has 65,809 miles - lewis Acura in shelburne vt inspected transmission - and instead of replacing it they installed a "jet kit" to lube the gears and keep the transmission from heating up too much. I believe the transmission should have been replaced. July 16, 2006: transmission is slipping and I have read many reports on line of other people who are having the same problem with their 2001 Acura Mdx transmissions. These people too only received the "jet kit" and their transmissions failed. I have had cars for a lot longer and the transmission has not failed like this. There needs to be a better look into how Acura handled this problem and really fix the problem rather than putting a band-aid (jet kit) on it.
From third gear into fourth gear, the transmission slips, it disengages like if it's in neutral for just a few seconds, and then goes into the next gear with a jerk. Now it seems like that it's always jerking. About a year or two ago, I had a much less noticeable loss of power incident with the vehicle with the check engine light coming on. The dealer cleared the warning light and advised that there was no problems. On 06/16/06 I brought the vehicle to the dealer to replace the transmission fluid, but that did not resolve the problem. They advised I would need a new transmission.
Close call trying to merge onto busy los angeles freeway in front of a freight truck when the transmission slipped into neutral for several seconds, until I let go of the accelerator and tried again. Had to slam on brakes and pull into emergency lane to avoid collision with truck.
My vehicle is an Acura Mdx 2001 1) driving on road ~35 mph transmission slipped into park and the car come to a halt, almost rear-ended by car behind us. Held up traffic for several minutes. 2) transmission slips between 3rd and 4th gear into neutral or park when going ~30-40 mph 3) took it to Acura dealership and contacted Acura customer service. Acura customer service declined my claim although the car only has 58k miles on it. Acuramdx. Org referred me to this site where hundreds of customers have the same problem and for most Acura corp. Replaces the transmission. This is a defective product that should be recalled and it is putting the life of hundreds of owners and the public in danger.
My Mdx has 85k miles on it, and the tranny started the infamous going into neutral at 30-40 mph on an intermittent basis. . . I've done all the various oil sending unit and egr valve fixes but started having the above problem about 7k ago, but when I took it to the dealer they gave the old hmmm, if we can't repeat it, we really can't replace it. . . . Then, the engine light came on. I made an appt with the dealer (pleasanton Acura), they gave me a $69 a day rental and said they would check it out. They did, and confirmed the engine code was tied to the defective transmission. I only had the standard warranty (50k, 4 yr) . I received a call back the same day saying Acura has agreed to pay for the transmission, but I would have to pay for the labor. . . $1,100. I think Acura should have to announce and support a total recall. I never thought I would spend $1,100 on a transmission for a 2002 Acura Mdx with an out the door price of ~$47,000 - unbelievable! I posted the above on the Acuramdx. Org website after doing a google search on Mdx transmissions and finding hundreds of complaints from car owners across the united states, all having the same transmission problems on 2002 Mdx. Apparently, Acura extended the transmission warranty on their 2002 tl's with the same transmission problem but for some reason have avoided addressing the Mdx with a formal recall or extended warranty even though they know and the public all know the transmission was a defective design and really poses a safety risk for hundreds of Mdx owners and others that might be affected when the Mdx transmission fails to allow the vehicle to accelerate when merging onto a highway with a semi-truck that doesn't know you're having a transmission failure which causes your transmission to slip and lose engine drive power. This is one blatant safety issue that Acura should do the right thing and extend the warranty and replace these defective Mdx 2002 transmissions.
2002 Acura Mdx has had the transmission replaced twice and it needs another transmission now. The transmission temperature light illuminated and the transmission would slip before taking off. The transmission was replaced due to an internal failure of the clutch.
: the contact stated the transmission is failing on the vehicle. There is an NHTSA recall, #04v176000 concerning the power train: automatic transmission; however the recall did not correct the problem. The vehicle's transmission was not failing at the time of the recall. The dealership determined the recall repair should consist of installing an oil jet kit. The recall was performed on August 12, 2004. The mileage on the vehicle at this time was 64,111. In August 2005, the contact noticed the transmission slipping upon acceleration into second gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealership. The dealership determined there was not a problem with the vehicle's transmission. The problem became progressively worse. In January 2006, the dealership confirmed the transmission wa sreplaced at contact's expense. A safety concern existed as acknowledged by Honda when the recall repairs were made. The repairs have not prevented transmission failure. Therefore, creating a safety hazard.
The transmission slips upon acceleration, when shifting, it snaps. The vehicle was taken to the dealer stated the failure mode is not consistent and not related to the recall. The recall date is April 13, 2004. The dealer's diagnosis showed failure of the 3rd, 4th and reverse gears. The dealer repaired the vehicle under the provisions of the vehicle's extended warranty.
Consumer stated transmission was slipping. However, consumer had this problem for the last 2 years. Consumer took the vehicle to dealer several times, bu tproblem recurred.
