I bought the vehicle in February 2024 from a certified acuara dealer. On December 26th the vehcile suddenly went into neutral mode and would not change into any other gear. The car was shutdown and restarted about 5 minutes later with the dashboard full of warning lamps at start up. I attempted to move the car from the roadway but the gear shift control would not work in any gear. Transmission warning lamp came on. The car was towed back to my home address. This car was Acura certied used. It has been maintaind by a Honda service center. Acura, Honda and the Acura dealer locally all have stated there are no issues with the car or warranties for the issues. The car has 74582 miles. Based on online forums this seems to be an issue with many Acura Mdx owners. Acura and Honda America are not acepting their product is defective. Lastly, we nearly avoided being in a severe accident due to the sudden stop on the roadway.

Hi, I bought a Mdx 2016 from autonation Acura last year. I had a problem with the car this week. When I was driving(moving), merging onto a freeway, as the traffic was more, it was slow merge, suddenly I was not able to accelerate as the transmission moved to "neutral" from "drive" automatically. I dont think this is normal behavior and I did not touch the gear buttons or steering wheel shift paddles. This could be a problem with car and its dangerous issue. I was lucky that the traffic was slow moving and I did manage to push to drive again and accelerate. What if this is on a fast moving freeway. Thanks, pradeep.

Owner of 2003 Mdx with 140,000 miles on it. Was working perfectly till it decelerate all the sudden while driving in dallas tollway. It felt as if the gear was on neutral and gas pedal was being forced. This would cause the motor to rev up but the transmission was failing and the gear wasn't responding. Vehicle came to complete stop, where the driver power off the engine and powered back on to see the difference and the vehicle started moving again for a minute and then back to no power. After taken to a transmission specialist, it was diagnosed as transmission failure.

Tl-the contact owns a 2003 Acura Mdx. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph and attempting to accelerate further, the vehicle would not shift into gear. There was an increase in engine rpms, but the vehicle stalled instead of accelerating. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and was awaiting a diagnostic test. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 155,000. Sm.
Purchased a used 03 Acura Mdx from a dealer on 4/22/11. I was driving the vehicle on a toll road (TX 121) and was traveling at around 65mph. Car started decelerating and would not go into gear. Almost had couple of accidents as there was no power to the drivetrain. Cars traveling behind me at 65mph+ were braking hard to avoid me. Vehicle towed to a transmission shop and they advised that it was transmission failure. Called Acura customer care and contacted them also via twitter. They pretended that they did not know of issues with transmission despite my research which points to numerous defects in their transmission. Acura indicated initial intent to consider compensate for the cost of transmission repair. After submitting all repair and towing details/invoices, Acura representative - sergio ramos - indicates that he will not consider any reimbursement. Acura manufactured and sold a vehicle that is known for faulty transmissions that have endangered my safety. I have tried working with Acura to amicably solve this issue to no avail. Acura Mdx is a potential hazard to public safety and potential deadly vehicle which Acura fails to acknowledge and fix.
The contact owns a 2003 Acura Mdx. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light and accelerating the vehicle would not shift into gear. The contact also stated that while driving 35 mph and attempting to slow the vehicle down the engine started to rev extremely high. The vehicle would not slow down and almost crashed into another vehicle; however, it began driving normal. The contact called the manufacturer regarding this issue but have not heard back from them at this time. The contact is concerned of the safety risk with his year make and model. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 105,000.
2002 Acura Mdx with 70,000 miles. Transmission failure which has been reported hundred if not thousands of times to Acura/Honda for the 2001-2003 year transmissions. Transmission is skipping and will not go into gear from 2nd gear to 3rd gear. This is at about 25-30 mph and mostly occurs on slight uphill grades. As I look on edmunds. Com and google there are hundreds of reports of this problem. At 22,000 miles my Acura dealer in 2004 placed a lubricant injection fix for this problem . Now at 70,000 miles with minimal use, regular maintenance, and dealer only inspections the transmission is failing. The patch kit did not work. I expect a $40,000 car to last more than 70,000 miles before a major problem. Acura/Honda should issue a full recall to replace the defective transmissions.

The contact owns a 2002 Acura Mdx. The contact stated that his vehicle would not shift into gear. On 12/12/08, Acura headquarters refused to pay or help pay for the major work on the transmission cost of approximately $4,000+. The dealer confirmed that the recall work was done on June 2, 2004; however, they didn?t state what was done. They will not provide any proof in writing. The carfax report also does not list that there was a recall on the transmission or any recall work was performed. Two Acura dealers had the vehicle in their possession (corporate car) when the recall was announced and cannot provide proof that the work was done. The vehicle has currently experienced total transmission failure. Nhtsa campaign id number 04v176000 (power train:automatic transmission) was referenced. Since the contact is the second owner of the vehicle, the dealer stated that a new oil jet kit was previously installed; therefore the contact would be responsible for the repair costs. He would like to speak with an investigator concerning the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.
