Vehicle was parked in residential driveway. Driver removed key, exited vehicle and remotely applied the door locks. Vehicle immediately began coasting down and ultimately off the driveway, down a steep grade into the yard until it struck a tree approximately 50 feet away. Resulting significant damage to front of vehicle was appraised at $5900. Car could not be removed from its resting place against tree except by tow truck. Tow driver indicated that vehicle was still in drive, not park when he extracted it from crash position. Tow driver and repair facility indicated that it should not have been possible to remove key from ignition without vehicle being in park, yet that was the specific cause of the crash.

Well I bout this car about a year ago at about 112k miles . . And was a proud owner of a 2002 Acura Mdx. . . Was great for a while until I started noticing slow acceleration while pressing on the gas. . . Thought nothing of it at first. . . . Took it for a service to Acura dealership . . . Told the service dept about my issue and they are the once who recommended the 120k mi service made me forget about the reason I brought it in the first place . . . Now 3 mo later malfunction light came on at 128k mi and they tell me my transmission is going bad . . . . They knew this when I took it in the first time. . But of course instead of telling me then they let me spend $2k on service and now telling me its going to cost me $5k for a new transmission . . . Thanks! I am pretty ticked coming to know that this issue has been ongoing for thousands of people and they are not doing a thing about it !.
The contact owns a 2005 Acura Mdx. The contact stated the vehicle required excessive force in order to shift gears. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the gear shift cable was lubricated; however, the failure recurred a few months later. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the gear shift cable was covered with rust and the failure was a design flaw. The vehicle was not repaired twice. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided little financial assistance with the repairs. The failure mileage was 65,000. Updated 11/01/lj

Bought 02 Mdx and have had no issues. Began noticing a stutter when accelerating. Never thought much of it since vehicle performance was never compromised. Recently check engine light came on and had code read. Informed it was a gear ratio mismatch. Call Acura dealer and was informed I would need to replace the non-servicable trany@ ~$2000! researching, found reams of complaints for the same issue.
1. While attempting to accelerate at a busy 4-way intersection, my Acura Mdx refused to go into gear or accelerate. This caused me to obstruct traffic in the intersection, and could have easily caused a multi-car accident. 2. The car has intermittently refused to go into first gear for several months. Manually shifting it into gear would temporarily solve the problem. 23. We had the car towed to ron tonkin Acura of portland. The service adviser informed us that the transmission needed to be replaced, and he had contacted Acura to request a "goodwill" repair. 24 hours later, he called to inform us that Acura refused his request due to the vehicle mileage. (120,000). Apparently Acura's position is that the transmission should only last for 120k miles before needing replacement.
The contact owns a 2002 Acura Mdx. The contact stated that the vehicle would shift gears independently. When shifted into reverse, the vehicle would abnormally accelerate forward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission was defective and would need to be replaced. The mechanic also stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign id number: 04v176000 (power train: automatic transmission). The manufacturer was not contacted and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 89,000.
I have a 2002 Acura Mdx. I was driving on the highway when suddenly my car jerked violently and the d5 began to flash. The transmission was locked at low gear and the check engine light went on. My car nearly ran over by a tractor truck. I went to the dealership and was told that the transmission and engine mounts are broken, which are systemic problems for 2001-2002 Acura Mdx models. However, Acura would not be responsible for this manufacturing defect.
I have a 2002 Acura Mdx. I bought the vehicle brand new from the dealership and have had numerous components on it replaced, however the one item which has not been resolved is a shudder which I get in the vehicle when driving between 30 - 40 mph. It appears to be a transmission issue, but the dealership has not dealt with the issue. The vehicle now has 100k miles on it, but the issue first arose at ~35k miles and was taken to the dealership numerous times while still under warranty with no resolution to the problem.
I have a 2003 Acura Mdx with 108k miles as of Dec 29, 2010. Two years ago around 80k miles, while my wife was driving with our kid, suddenly the engine lost power on highway 95. She had to rev up to 6000 rpm to keep the speed at 30 mph. Acura dealer checked the transmission and said they found metallic particles in the transmission fluid, and the fluid was charred. They also said gear was slighly damaged, but told me to replace transmission fluid very frequently (more than recommendation). No one told me 2003 Mdx has faulty transmission system. After 1 year at around 90k miles I changed the transmission fluid again. Now, three days ago, same transmission problem. Even at 25 mph, the rpm goes suddently to 5000 rpm at same acceleration pressure level. I checked the transmision fluid immediately. The transmission fluid level is perfectly fine. But fluid is black and charred particles, possibly metallic. Not supposed to happen for $40k luxury SUV at 80k miles and 108k miles. Dropped my car at local aucra dealer hoping Acura can replace transmission at their own cost. I already spent $1000 first time two years ago. Then I spend over $600 for 90k miles regular maintenance that included transmission fluid service. I am not spending again on the same stupid faulty transmission that Acura should have notified all its customers in the first place. If they dont fix it at their own cost, I will never buy or recommend Acura to anyone. Very very disappointed with Acura.
The contact owns a 2001 Acura Mdx. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign id number: 04v176000 (power train:automatic transmission). Shortly after repairs, the vehicle began to stall sporadically with the illumination of the check engine warning light. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer and they advised him that the transmission would need to be replaced a second time. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance stating that the vehicle was repaired once under the recall. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 137,000.
Transmission problems on Acura Mdx.
I have a 2001 Acura Mdx and I experienced some safety issue on highway a few weeks ago. The transmission had skip/slip problem while I was driving uphill on I-680. All of a sudden, the car transmission couldn't switch gear and caused me almost crashed into another car. I did some research on the internet and found that all Acura Mdx 2001-2003 have transmission problem even they did recall. But, they didn't make the transmission functioning well after normal use. I contacted Acura on 12/2/2010 and they told me that they are not liable to this situation. They don't care about public safety. Please invest this problems seriously. I hope that you can order Acura to be responsible for this transmission defect and eventually save people's lives from potential accidents on the highway.
I currently own a 2006 Acura Mdx. The vehicle currently has 86,000 miles and has been serviced exclusively by Acura. All recommended services have been performed by Acura. The car was just returned to me after having its 3rd transmission replaced. This time the car broke down during an acceleration onto a major highway almost causing a traffic incident. The transmission has been identified as a failure by Acura and has been replaced by them each time under warranty.

The contact owns a 2002 Acura Mdx. The contact stated that when she attempted to accelerate, the vehicle would not move and other times, the rpms would increase but the vehicle would still accelerate abnormally slow. The contact also experienced problems when shifting gears. The vehicle was previously repaired by an authorized dealer in 2004 under NHTSA campaign id number: 04v176000 (power train: automatic transmission) and when the vehicle was returned to the contact, the dealer advised that the transmission would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that because the vehicle was previously repaired under the recall, they could offer no further assistance. The failure mileage was 107,962 and the current mileage was approximately 108,000.
Car would not move upon pushing gas pedal but engine would revive then without warning the car would launch forward at accelerated speed. This lurching continued unpredictably upon further driving the car. Dealer said that the transmission needed to be replaced.
8/18/10 - while driving car begins acting like we are trying to accelerate while in neutral. We are able to get to a gas station, where we notice transmission fluid on the ground. We have it towed to a local Honda dealership in dublin. They replace the transmission hose. 8/28/10 - driving on the interstate, car begins acting up again - same problem. We pull over immediately and have it towed to a different dealership in columbus. We are told we need to get a new transmission. Both times there were no warning signs of any problems. Once it started acting up, there was nothing that could be done except pull it away from traffic and have it towed.

Since my purchase of a brand new 2005 Acura Mdx from the dealer, I have performed all of the scheduled maintenance and over the last year the car has started to shudder or vibrate when it reaches @40mph. The car has @57k miles.
Have been hearing a noise in the drive train for quite sometime. Also hear a thumping noise when 4 wheel drive is engaged and turn sharply. Reading different blogs this seems to be a very common problem with the Acura Mdx, but Acura does not have a recall.
My dealer serviced 2001 Acura Mdx has failing engine mounts, and failing transmission at 82,000 highway miles. The dealer (hinshaw Acura, seattle) sold it to me, and 100 miles later the check engine and transmission light came on. This must be a defect, and needs to be corrected. I will not pay $6000 for a new transmission at 82k miles from a dealer serviced luxury car.
I bought 2006 Mdx may 2010 with 107,000 km, now coming to 110,000 after putting 3k I am starting to get vibration/shudder/grinding between 40-65kmh while accelerating, lugging power when I turn right or left on slow 20kmh. I guess this vehicle still under power train warranty to fix this issues or do I have any other option to resolve this issues.
The contact owns a 2001 Acura Mdx. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for a routine oil change; however, three weeks after the oil was changed, there was an oil leak in the transmission. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the transmission housing could possibly be cracked and recommended replacement of the transmission. The vehicle had not been repaired when the complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2002 Acura Mdx. The contact stated while driving 15 mph, the vehicle would independently slip into second gear causing the vehicle to hesitate. The contact located a NHTSA campaign id number: 04v176000 (power train: automatic transmission) but was advised by the manufacturer that the vehicle was repaired under the recall by the previous owner. The manufacturer offered to cover fifty percent of the repairs. The contact did not believe the vehicle was repaired correctly when repaired under the recall. The failure and current mileages were 82,000.
I am having transmission problem with my 2001 Acura Mdx. They issued a safety recall. But, I have never been notified even I sent my car for service at Acura dealership. The way Acura handled this safety recall was not acceptable. I was notified by aamco that I should have been told. Can you help me this issue? how can I claim the damage from Acura?.
2002 Acura Mdx: for about 2 month's there seemed to be loss of power during driving. I assumed maybe I was wearing shoes with higher heels and passed it off as not pressing the gas pedal as hard as I thought. 2 weeks ago while driving the vehicle made a loud sound and loss forward motion power, the check engine light came on. We stopped and had the vehicle loaded on a car trailer to the nearest Honda dealer (closer than an Acura dealer). Now we are informed the tranny is needing replaced at 86,600 miles. Listed info on this vehicle by VIN is a 2004 recall of the 2nd gear which was fixed by the prior owner at about 42,000 miles and a search of the internet reveals many people reporting the similar tranny related problems. At this time we are waiting to hear if Acura will help with the repairs estimated at over $4000 but others in online postings have stated they have had no luck with Acura helping- we will see. This is a tremendous safety concern and disservice to consumers. We were lucky there were no other vehicles around at the point that ours went out.
2006 Acura Mdx can be stopped and keys removed without shifting to park. We noticed this in an incident in a shopping mall parking lot when car was parked and mistakenly left in drive. Keys were removed and cars started rolling as if it were in neutral. Since the incident we have verified that keys can be removed when it is not in park. The car will roll freely when it is in drive or reverse. From another report on your site on 3/24/2009 we are not the only ones with this issue. While there was no loss for us this appears that it is an issue that needs to be addressed.
2006 Acura Mdx with 34000 miles, start to have intermittent transmission "shudder" around 40mph, bring to thomas Acura dealer to check for two times and was told to change the converter because of "normal"stress of the transmission. In addition, dealer suggest to change transmission oil but I just did it 6 months ago.
There has been numerous reports regarding the transmission 2001-2006 Acura Mdx . Many have stated that they have replaced transmission at least 2times . Then Acura wants to charge 4-5k to replace . There are several complaints listed on edmunds. Com forum over 400 . I have also been affected by having a faulty transmission as well . S ome owners with very low mileage are affected. . Acura isn't owning up to the problem. How many people must result in a death to report this as a safety recall .
Vibration and chatter noise while accelerating between 15to 50 miles per hr. . The vehicle is a 2004 Acura Mdx with about 100,00 miles on it now noise is very bad and seems to be getting more often and louder we just bought this vehicle in Feb 2010 if would have known this had this problem we wouldn't have bought it something needs to be done by the manufacture to take care of this, there seems to be alot of Mdx units with this problem.
The contact owns a 2002 Acura Mdx. While driving 65 mph and changing lanes the transmission down shifted and almost shut the vehicle off. The check engine light illuminated and the d5 light started flashing on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not safe to drive and will be towed to the dealer. There was only routine maintenance performed on the vehicle prior to the failure. The failure mileage was 99,000.
Truck started hesitating on the freeway at 70 mph. Was almost hit from behind when truck made sudden jerk then hesitated.
