Not sure what equipment it is, but I have trouble accelerating in my Mdx. I thought it was normal until I drove my sister's rl. I couldn't believe the difference. Whenever I am driving, especially when accelerating I have to floor the car to get it to move it seems. Its especially problematic when I am getting on a highway and trying to merge into traffic. I have to actually put my seat further so my entire foot can now be on the gas to get it to accelerate or make it seem like it is. Took it in to a dealership (thank god for extended warranty) and don't know what they did, but it helped only for a short time. The problem was back in less than weeks and its so hard to get to a dealership because they are not in my town and I have to get someone to take it for me. I have been reading others having the same problem and now see its the torque. Is there a permanent fix for this.

Autotransmission hesitate to shift from 2nd to 3rd gear and not all the time this happens. It occurs all of a sudden when? you never know. All Acura Mdx 01,02 should be pulled out of streets. Manufacturer should be accountable for that. It is a design problem not only it is hazardous for owners but also for other people.

My 2002 Acura Mdx has been failing due to a malfunction in there transmission. They will not admit there wrong. Every one with this type of SUV has experience this problem.
Less than 100 yards from where my wife started our 2001 Acura Mdx while making a left turn and accelerating the vehicle made a loud clunk and slid in the slush to the right. The vehicle was still running but it would not move. Would not allow us to shift into reverse or park. In neutral the vehicle would not move either. There has been a transmission recall but Acura told me I would need to take it to an Acura dealership to research the problem. We live 5-6 driving hours from the nearest Acura dealership. It is not logical to try and get it there. Our local Honda dealership is currently installing a rebuilt transmission should be done today. Are Honda and Acura not one and the same corporation? I'm looking for some assistance with this. It was a safety recall and quite an expensive repair. Thank god my wife wasn't going any faster. We are the original owners of the vehicle. Regarding a 2003 Acura Mdx with 108,000 miles, the transmission and two motor mounts failed. Information on the edmunds website confirm these repetitive failures and potential transmission lockup at high speeds. I have all maintenance records to show the car was taken care of. New motor mounts were $500. The dealer paid for most of the transmission replacement but it still costs us $460 out of pocket.
The check engine light came on 2002 Acura Mdx 112000k bought used w no warranty . 5days later the car shifts down gear when u lift off the gas allthe time when changing gear on hill its seems to be jamming . . Took to several auto place to hook to machine . It all shows the same code torque converter . /transmission .
The contact owns a 2004 Acura Mdx. While traveling at 15 mph, there was an abnormal grinding coming from the transmission. In addition, when accelerating at 15-40 mph, the grinding would stop. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where he was informed that the transmission would need to be replaced. There were no prior warnings of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. 2002 Acura Mdx required a transmission replacement following a rapid deceleration of vehicle on highway. Luckily avoided collision by other vehicles. Codes on diagnostic indicated trans required replacement at 136,000 miles. To keep vehicle safe, I have paid 4,000 ++ dollars to replace. Thankfully accident did not follow with the rapid deceleration.
Transmission issue dealer charged me $4400 and Acura gave me 25% discount to do the repair. This is a known problem and still Acura is not taking full responsibility to fix the issue without any money, most of the owners got 90% discount and now Acura is just giving 25% discount .
I have 2003 Acura Mdx which seems to have transmission problem while driving the vehicle its automatically shift to neutral stopping the car in mid traffic it has happen on numerous occasion, no repairs lights to indicate there is a problem. I had 2 take this vehicle to the dealer 3 times before they found the problem and that was only after mechanic tried 2 drive it home when it happened 2 him. This problem occurred periodically at any given time. My vehicle had just been service for its 90,000 maintenance at $560 I told them then I noticed this problem assured me vehicle was fine. Next week took it back they told me the mat was causing the acceleration to stick removed mats drove home next day same problem while driving car just stop in middle of traffic. Took vehicle back that's when mechanic tried to home with it happened to him he brought back into shop she's right it is dangerous. Now they want $4700 to fix it. . There are still no warning signals that this vehicle needs service computers still says its fine. I also just replaced alternator a few months ago could not sit in park positions with lights on or key hanging in ignition car would just stop and would need a hot shot.
Driver is able to remove keys to car while car is in drive and engine is off.
2001 Acura Mdx transmission locked up at high speed. If this had been on anything other than a dry road we could have lost control of the vehicle.
My two sons (17 and 18) were driving my Acura Mdx 2002 on a highway 45 miles from home when the revs starts going out of control when the vehicle was driven over 40 mph. They had to be towed back by aaa and I have had to have the transmission changed at 121k.

The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed the failure was not a safety concern. The failure continued to occur and the vehicle was taken back to the dealership where the transmission was then replaced. The contact was told that the replacement transmission was new but upon speaking with the manufacturer, he was informed that the transmission was re-manufactured. Acura has known for some time now that Mdx model, years 2001-2003, have defective transmissions. There have been numerous complaints about this same issue with a lot of Acura owners.
On 4/2/2009 the front end of my 2002 Acura Mdx seized while driving 35 mph locking up the front end causing the vehicle to skid 5-7 feet to a halt. It turns out the transmission that was suppose to be fixed per the recall under campaign number 04v176000 was the issue. It was a gear failure that resulted in transmission lockup. As there were no vehicles behind me when this happened an accident did not occur; however, this was an issue that was suppose to be addressed and it appears it wasn't. Acura states the issue was fixed in 2004 and after further investigation, it appears there are dozens of similar testimonials of this exact occurrence on online forums. Acura denied the existence of an issue and I feel this is a public safety concern that requires further action.
I recently purchased a 2006 certified used Acura Mdx base model. I was exiting the vehicle and accidentally left the gear in park (automatic transmission). I removed the key without noticing it was in drive and when I got out of the vehicle it started rolling backwards. I noticed and jumped in and hit the brake, but was surprised to realize it was in gear and allowed me to remove the key. So I tried again and same thing happened whether I was in drive or reverse, I am able to remove the key and the car will roll like it is in neutral. I cannot reinsert the key without moving the shifter back to park. I believe this is an issue with the vehicles interlock after doing some research on similar incidents with Jeep and pontiac. This is very dangerous and I would really like to see a recall be done to fix this problem.

2003 Acura Mdx 68,000 miles transmission won't go into drive normally, have to drive it like a standard transmission, start in 1-2 then proceed into regular drive many past problems with this car, a/c problems, electrical, trim etc. Dealer states oops you need a new transmission --40,000. Dollar car and you only get 68,000 miles. Dealer states well you can drive it like that for maybe a day or two maybe a week but it needs to be replaced it will lock up on you soon. We can fix it for 3600. 00 in their dreams I will probably paint it yellow and put it up on blocks :) no warning when this happened just pulled up to a red light and it wouldn't move after that.
Transmission on our 2002 Acura Mdx is going out. Our transmission on our 2001 Mdx went out last year. We also have a 2002 Honda accord and the transmission is going out on that also.
I am writing to NHTSA to report a transmission lockup incidence on the highway of my 2001 Acura Mdx SUV. On 1/23/2009, while I was driving at the highway at 60 mph, the car has abruptly stopped to low 30 mph and almost caused a catastrophic accident to my family. The car didn't have any warning light on the dashboard console prior to the failure. The car has 148,000 miles and it's in a good mechanical standing (with regular interval maintenance). Since then, I have done some research and found that this vehicle is known to produce such symptom. It's clear that the vehicle transmission has design issue at its beginning, and at high mileage, it might exacerbate more severely. Should NHTSA regulate Acura to concern more for the safety of its customers? action that Acura can help could be as issues new errata bulletins or courteous accident preventive measurement to make its older(high mileage) car safe. I have tried to contact to Acura but didn't think it has any use. For one thing that Acura factory won't make its customer safe is to collect actual older high mileage failure transmission and investigate for preventive safety measurement. Acura showed no interest despite my effort in talking to them. I have driven cars with failure transmission, but have not experience one that locks up at high speed in highway. This type of failure symptom is totally not acceptable. Surprisingly, I was able to find report of many Mdx transmission lockup cases on web. Should there be law to prevent high mileage unsafe Mdx go ride on highway unless some safety inspection has been performed. And, this is for the safety of others. I am currently having the transmission replaced at my own expense.
Recall NHTSA campaign id number 04v176000, relating to motor vehicle safety, was issued for owner's vehicle. Recall was for defective Acura Mdx transmission. Acura failed to notify owner of transmission recall, even though owner has lived at same address for nearly ten years. Acura's records confirm that Acura failed to notify owner of transmission recall. Owner discovered transmission recall on NHTSA website in 2008. Owner brought vehicle to authorized Acura dealer in October of 2008 for repair of defective recalled transmission. Acura dealer determined that owner's transmission was defective and required replacement. Acura dealer estimated cost to replace owner's transmission at $5,500. 00. Acura refused to provide any free of charge replacement service or repair to recalled defective transmission. Owner's vehicle has remained on premises of the authorized Acura dealer since October of 2008.
2002 Mdx purchased as a certified pre-owned with 37k miles. At 55k miles reported to dealer a rumbling sound coming from under vehicle. Dealer test drove the car and found nothing. At 65k miles complained about the same thing, they found nothing and suggested transmission fluid change and vtm fluid change. I performed both services. Now at 82k miles check engine light and vtm4 light come on, I take it to the dealer and they found the transmission to be bad. Transmission will be replace on Monday the 22nd of Sep under warranty. Will trade car after they fix it because I don't trust it anymore, judging from all the problems everyone seems to have with 2002. Acura should pay for everyone's problems regarding transmission/ motor mounts for model year Mdx 01-02.

The contact owns a 2001 Acura Mdx. While driving approximately 20 mph going up a hill the transmission would lunge forward. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic and he advised her that he could not duplicated the failure. She stated that a local mechanic looked at the vehicle at least three times and was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact owns a 2001 Acura Mdx. While driving 20 to 30 mph and attempting to shifts gears they failed to shift. There was a thrust and then the gear shifted very hard into the next gear. This failure occured intermittently. The dealer stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. There is also a recall for the transmission. The failure mileage was 135,000.
My 2005 Acura Mdx has encountered problems where the car suddenly stops when the brake is applied and fails to accelerate smoothly (the car lurches during acceleration). This usually occurs at slower speeds (<30mph). This has occurred on numerous occasions. Acura service has been unable to diagnose the problem despite our pleas to find the problem. Sometimes the problem is ameliorated when the ignition is turned off and restarted, similar to a computer reboot. The most recent incident, today, did not rectify itself when the car was restarted. This situation is dangerous as the car is susceptible to rear-end and other collision when the car "locks up" during acceleration or braking.
We were on a vacation in arizona, had the 90k service done 2 days before traveling. Everything was fine until the 3rd day of our trip. We were headed to tombstone, az. For a day trip about 90 miles each way from tucson where we were staying, about 40 miles outside of town on I-10 the transmission starts losing torque and the transmission temp warning light comes on, I pull over and call aaa and get towed to an Acura dealer in tucson. I get a call from the dealer a short time later saying I need a new transmission to the tune of 4,000. 00. I have maintained this vehicle to manufacturer's specs by a certified Honda/Acura repair shop. I find it hard to believe that the transmission would just fail with no warning. Luckily we have family in tucson that we could stay with, while the transmission was ordered and replaced. Needless to say our vacation was ruined.
The transmission to my 2002 Acura Mdx started to malfunction about a week ago. It starts to slip from 1st to second gear. I called an Acura dealership and they told me that the transmission had been serviced and covered the recall. I believe that nothing was done and Acura is trying to pass the cost to me. My 2001 Acura Mdx transmission and computer board needs to be replaced at 65,000 miles as well as two engine mounts. The vehicle has a recall report on the transmission and I thought they fixed it. The dealer will not explain to me what work was done for the repair. I wanted to know if they followed Honda's procedure to see if it was damaged.

I took my car into the nalley Acura dealership where I purchased it for servicing. The service personnel told me after checking the vehicle that I needed a new transmission because the second gear was worn out. My wife found on the internet after this fact that there was a recall on the second gear breakage in the transmission for the 2001-2002 Mdx. I contacted the manufacturer about my vehicle being repaired under this recall, and they will not agree to pay full cost of $4000 for the new transmission, but stated nothing of the recall. The manufacturer offered to pay half the cost. As stated below they are responsible for full repairs as my vehicle has over 15,000 miles and other reasons as stated below. I have tried working with the manufacturer on this situation for over a month with still no resolution. I would appreciate assistance from you all concerning my vehicle being repaired and the manufacturer paying in full. Thank you. On some Mini vans, sport utility and passenger vehicles, certain operating conditions can result in heat build-up between the countershaft and secondary shaft second gears in the automatic transmission, eventually leading to gear tooth chipping or gear breakage. Consequence: gear failure could result in transmission lockup, which could result in a crash. Remedy: on vehicles with 15,000 miles or less, the dealer will update the transmission with a simple revision to the oil cooler return line to increase lubrication to the second gear. On vehicles with more than 15,000 miles, the dealer will inspect the transmission to identify gears that have already experienced discoloration due to overheating. If discoloration exists, the transmission will be replaced if discoloration is not present, the dealer will perform the revision to the oil cooler return line. The recall began on April 21, 2004, for pilot, odyssey, and Mdx owners.
Started having issues with my 2001 Acura Mdx about a year ago, I took it to my local Acura dealer and explained to them the problems I was noticing with the transmission. They checked it out and said everything was fine, well apparently it wasn't because now I need a whole new transmission. This has been a recurring problem with these vehicles and alot of owners have been compensated in one fashion or another according to different threads I have read online. I called Acura today and pleaded my case but they essentially told me to "suck it up" (easy for them to say, a $4,500 repair) they did tell me that the case manager would review the case and get back to me but I shouldn't expect any compensation from Acura.
Transmission was not shifting correctly for about a day before. I attempted to enter traffic and the transmission stopped working. I was lucky not to be able to get in traffic, otherwise there probably been an accident.
