Warnings Problems of Acura MDX

I was driving to work yesterday morning- busiest time of day on probably the busiest road in our area. My car started freaking out randomly. It popped up numerous errors. The steering wheel locked up. The brakes weren’t working well. I had a car behind me. Thankfully they were paying attention because they were very close to rear ending me. But they dodged me. I finally jerked the wheel and got it pulled over to the side of the road until someone could come get me and take me to work. There could have been a different outcome. After being hit head on in February of this year, this incident was not good for my ptsd!!!! my anxiety has been through the roof since this incident with a car that I bought six months ago! as soon as I can trade this car off and get something else, I will be. We still don’t know what it’s wrong with it. We are going to have it towed somewhere on Monday. This was a major safety risk for me and for the others on the road!!! if my kids had been in the car, I would’ve been even more upset over the situation.

The front lane assist camera has failed internally and now the lane assist, forward collision and adaptive cruise control no longer work. This has been a known issue and has happened to other Acura Mdxs. The warning lights are now coming on saying the vehicle had a brake system error. It also states that all systems related to this camera are inoperable.

All of a sudden the brakes are automatically applied with collision avoidance amber coming on dash heads up display while I am on freeway approximate speed 30-40 mph with no apparent vehicle in front. This has also happened at lower speeds in local driving roads. Braking is pretty severe and dangerous could be rear ended by other vehicles . . This is a collision mitigating system falsely coming on with no vehicle in front very dangerous. It has happened about 3 times intermittently. Taking in vehicle to local Acura dealer on 24 th June 2025 for check up.

Lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning all stopped working and received error codes. Dealership stated camera was faulty and needed to be replaced at my cost. Continued issues with electrical systems where the car alarm will go off intermittently, and vehicle will not lock unless manually locking. Dealership stated Smart control unit needs to also be replaced at my cost. Part number for control unit #38320 was issued by Honda motor company service bulletin 21-055 for their Honda ridgeline. Acura dealer will not honor since part number does not specify Acura. Part issued in service bulletin is 38320-t6z-a11 (Honda ridgeline) part needed to be replaced by Acura is 38320-trx-a11. Other service bulletins related to original issues: 20-015, 19-005, 23-008, and 24-022 and safety recall report 23v-751. Dealership is still placing responsibility of repair of defective parts on car owner.

Vehicle make/model/year: 2019 Acura Mdx component affected: forward collision avoidance / lane departure / adas (front camera system) summary of issue: I am filing this complaint regarding a recurring and dangerous issue involving the front windshield-mounted camera on our 2019 Acura Mdx. After purchasing this vehicle and driving approximately 5500 miles in las vegas, multiple critical safety warnings began appearing on the dashboard, including: •“collision mitigation system problem” •“road departure mitigation system problem” •“lane keeping assist problem” •“adaptive cruise control problem” these warnings occur continuosly. The warning lights won’t turn off, resulting in the complete shutdown of essential advanced driver assistance systems (adas). Safety concerns: this camera-related failure disables major safety features designed to prevent accidents. The driver is left without automatic emergency braking, lane keeping, or adaptive cruise control. This is especially dangerous at highway speeds. Acura has not issued a recall, despite the widespread nature of this problem and documented cases in other hot-weather regions. Service experience: we purchased the vehicle used from a Cadillac dealership. The issue began approximately 3 months after purchase. A mechanic confirmed that the front camera system is likely malfunctioning due to heat exposure—a known problem with this model. Why I’m reporting: I believe this is a safety defect that should prompt investigation. Acura appears to have issued technical service bulletins (tsbs) but has not taken action to proactively notify owners or issue a recall. This defect compromises driver and passenger safety and puts others at risk.

The last 3 times we had very insignificant snow accumulation, my vehicle dashboard lit up with 6 different warnings, some audible. When you look up the info on them it says the car cannot steer, break, will roll on a hill etc. One warning advises to remove all flammables from the car. I was very nervous and almost towed the car but since I was a mile from home I drove it and brought it to the dealer at 0730 next day. They said nothing was wrong. Snow or dirt probably got behind sensor. It has happened two more times in the next 10 days. I keep taking off work and nothing is wrong. The issue is when this happens you cannot change the vehicle to snow mode to drive. This is a safety feature as well as the flashing "brake" warning and audible alarm. I have a [xxx] and [xxx] driver and they do not want to operate this vehicle. Both times it happened again, I took it to the car wash and cleaned every visible camera and sensor to no avail. I am taking it back to the dealer again this Friday but if nothing is wrong with any of these systems then there is something wrong with the cameras because how can someone operate awd and snow mode when there are these false warnings and how do you know if they aren't false. I don't want to assume each time it's not but 3 times in 10 days and missing work, etc. Plus I am very nervous driving it like this. I reported it to Acura- they said there were no recalls. Would not provide info if they have prior complaints. On google, I have found numerous complaints about this. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. 2019 Acura Mdx a-spec started up the SUV and the following appears on the dash: acc problem collision mitigation problem lake keep assist problem auto high beam problem battery has been replaced and issue still exists. Cruise control does not work at all. "break problem" light remains lit.

Problems may occur intermittently, including during engine startup and while driving, with warning messages appearing on the dashboard? auto high-beam problem, road departure mitigation sysem problem,, collsion mitigation system problem, lane keeping assist problem and adaptive cruise control problem. All of advanced driver assistance systems can't be used.

Forward collision mitigation braking randomly activates and slams on the brakes despite no cars/obstacles/items in front of it. I have luckily not been rear-ended, but I've had several close calls when driving in traffic (car noses dipping behind me). The dealership has so far been unable to replicate this issue and stated that unless they can replicate there is nothing they can/will do to fix the issue.

The auto engine idle stop on my 2016 Acura Mdx has left me in precarious situations at stop signs and/or traffic lights at least twice before the recall notification I received in the mail a couple of weeks ago. The engine turned off as designed but then would not turn back on like it should without a delay. The worst incident was when my teenage daughters were in the car with me! after receiving the recall notice recently and taking the vehicle into the dealership within days of the notification, my “software update fix” by the dealership (napleton Acura in west palm beach) completely disabled my auto engine idle stop! after calling the service rep I dealt with later that day and telling him about it, I was told the software update made the “turn-off” feature more specific and mine didn’t meet the parameters! my engine was at normal operating temperature, my air conditioner was not on and I stopped at at least 12 lights on the way home with no engine stop. That was a week ago and still no engine idle stop has taken place! I’m a pilot and don’t appreciate being talked down to by a supposed “racing champion” named zeke that feels the need to advertise his prior win on his service uniform! not only that, but now my safety related “object approaching” notification for front driving and “rear warning” for close objects during parking/reversing are now non-existent! I paid extra for these safety related options and I’m not happy that they’ve been disabled because of the “software update!” how do I become part of the class action lawsuit against Acura/Honda?.

2018 purchased a little more than a month ago as a certified used Acura. Twice now we have been overridden by the automatic forward collision detecting something in front when nothing was there. Once on the freeway went from 70mph to 15 quickly and almost got rear ended. Just now on city street car stopped in the middle of intersection while turning left and overrides driver pressing gas pedal in both cases. Makes us scared to drive SUV further and we have turned off that feature to see if it still happens.

My car routinely sends a warning alert that there is an approaching object. It happens more frequently, when the temperature is hot, and it happens mostly when I am stopped at a traffic light. Occasionally, the alerts continue as I'm moving, which is really distracting, but even sitting at a traffic light is distracting and creating a safety issue. I listed yesterday's date, but this happens nearly every day that I drive this vehicle.

During driving, collision mitigation braking system (cmbs) will activate and "brake" light will blink, indicating that you should apply brakes. This happened multiple times. Finally the cmbs warning light came on permanently. I took my car to Acura dealership for repairs. They informed me that it was a software issue and update of the software should resolve this problem.

Forward looking camera failed at 62k miles, it won't communicate with the computer according to dealership diagnosis on 11-18-2022. Replacement cameras are on backorder, with no availability date. Vehicle is available for inspection. The issue directly affects forward collision, lane departure and cruise control. It no longer warns me if approaching something too quickly. It no longer tells me if I drift into another lane or corrects it. Cruise control stopped working as well. Distracting lights and beeping when driving, says windshield needs to be cleaned on instrument cluster. Issue began in mid 2022. According to my research, failing cameras seem to be an issue. Replacement camera is approx $1500, plus the labor to install and align.

Observation 1: lane-keeping assistance is unreliable and the results of its operation are highly variable. In optimum conditions (daylight, wide lanes which are clearly marked; good contract between lane markings & pavement; no more than very gentle, wide-radius curves), this feature will do one of three things when the vehicle starts to drift from the middle of the lane: (1) the feature will gently steer the vehicle back to the desired position, (2) the feature will exhibit a warning by vibrating the steering wheel and allow the vehicle to change lanes or (3) fail and do nothing -- without any warning whatsoever. One never knows how the car will react but it certainly cannot be trusted. Observation 2: when driving in light traffic or no traffic conditions the vehicle will occasionally brake aggressively. This was observed to occur on multiple occasions. Two situational examples which have been observed several times: (1) four lane roadway inside city limits; speed: 40mph; I was gently braking to stop behind a vehicle stopped at a traffic light; car applied brakes rapidly nearly causing a rear-end crash as the vehicle behind me did not anticipate the Acura's action. (judging from the hand signal I received I believe the driver of the vehicle behind me though I was administering a "brake test" -- a common precursor to "road rage. ") (2) driving on a two lane country road at 50-55mph; no other traffic within hundreds of feet in any direction; vehicle brakes rapidly for no apparent reason; my attempt to accelerate and over-ride the "safety feature" was unsuccessful -- eventually the Acura stopped this action and I was able to resume desired speed. Important to note: at no time during these incidents did braking occur to avoid a crash or minimize damage. These were uncommanded operations that actually increased the probability of a crash. These events occurred between 11/21 and 03/22.
