1 Wiring problem of the 2019 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 07/16/2020

While driving at highway speed, there was single "pop" sound that seemed to come from inside the dashboard between the on demand multifunction display (odmd) and the instrument panel. The navi screen then became solid black. After a very short time and while still at highway speed, the navi screen briefly showed the view from the backup camera. After a few seconds both the navi screen and the odmd screen became solid black and remained that way. Then, within seconds, light colored, grayish smoke began flowing out into the vehicle from the cd slot on the odmd. Immediately, there was an odor in the car like that from burning plastic or electrical insulation. As soon as possible the car was pulled off the highway and the engine was turned off. The smoke continued to come out of the cd slot until the engine was turned off, then the smoke stopped coming out. After several minutes the engine was restarted and the car was driven to a safer location. There was no smoke coming from the cd slot after the car was restarted and while driving the car to the dealership for service the next day. An odor like that from an electrical fire remained noticeable in the vehicle. Prior to the event, the driver observed no vehicle warning indications, and both the navi and the odmd appeared to be functioning normally. The cd player was not being used. The dealership service manager advised me that they consulted with Acura engineering personnel, inspected and tested wiring inside the dashboard and have isolated the cause of the problem to "a short in the radio. " the dealer says that the odmd and the hard disk drive have been sent to alpine to determine the cause of failure at alpine's request. I have asked the dealership to confirm that the repairs to the vehicle will ensure that this kind of event will not recur.

2 Wiring problem of the 2007 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 06/25/2015

Several times, the electrical system shuts off while driving. I was lucky to be in the neighborhood and not on a highway. The dealer stated there is a problem with the bluetooth and we have had it replaced. This is the second time this has occured. The first time it happened, the bluetooth was under Acura warranty. It was explained to me that the bluetooth is drawing energy constantly and the dealer suggested we disconnect it to avoid the same issue happening again. But that is the reason I had bought the car in 2007. It had integrated bluetooth. The times the car off while driving luckily was at a traffic light and in our neighborhood. I just hope it does not happen while we are on the highway. Acura also stated that maybe the wiring to the battery was stretched and I had to pay to replace it. I have never had to replace that wire. I believe the bluetooth and its controls are a defective design but Acura does not want to admit it.

3 Wiring problem of the 2009 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 04/20/2015

"nox sensor wiring harness chewed by mouse" per Acura dealership. There is no evidence of rodent damage or presence elsewhere in the vehicle. According to the Acura dealership, there was a problem with the prior models prior to 2009, but my particular car doesn't have the problem. The wiring has been covered by Honda rodent deterrent tape as showing in the pictures. I have contacted Acura/Honda dealerships, their extended warranty customer service and also the irrespective, Acura/Honda manufacturer customer service. The same thing happened to my other car (Honda odyssey 2009) within a span of one week with exactly similar presentation. When I requested information from the above sources, I was told that this was confidential information and is not available for customers and that is it is a rare event and not related to manufacturing defects and also there was no definitive trend in Acura/Honda(same company) nox sensor wiring harness chewed by rodents and have refused to cover it under extended warranty program to which I have subscribed/purchased. I have another entry regarding the other vehicle.

4 Wiring problem of the 2004 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 03/08/2011

I have a 2004 Acura Mdx. There are about 77,000 miles on it. Vsa, vtm-4, abs, and airbag lights keep flashing. So I took it to my Acura dealearship and they told me that after diagnostic that the rear differential failed. I believe there is something wrong with the wiring of all Mdx in or around 2004. There has been numerous repoertings of rear differential failures in 2003 and 2004 Mdxs. Acura should take a look into this and maybe do a recall. This is very dangerous because the transmission makes a loud noise and slows down when you are driving almost as if the transmission was about to go out.

Failure Date: 10/05/2009

The contact owns a 2007 Acura Mdx. The contact stated that when adjusting the power seat on the driver side, the air bag warning light would illuminate on the instrument panel. The dealer diagnosed that the vehicle would need a wiring harness replacement. The manufacturer denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 90,000. Updated 11/04/11.
