Air Bag Problems of Acura RDX - part 1

Since we bought the vehicle in 2019, the passenger-side seat sensor didn't always go off when occupied. We asked the dealership to check it out in 2020 or 2021, however, due to the problem being inconsistent it couldn't be fixed. The inconsistency of the seat sensor has continued though the years, but lately, it has become more frequent. I am the usual occupant on the passenger side and I weigh 113 lbs. I recently spoke with the dealer service department after I saw the recall; however, the recall does not apply to our VIN.

The driver side airbag. And yes, it can be inspected. I was involved in a low impact accident, where I struck a minor curb. The airbag deployed in my face, causing a loss of consciousness and ongoing concussion. No warning signs at all. Not yet, the vehicle is being looked at on Monday. The vehicle was inspected by the police.

Purchased used 2019 Rdx from Acura dealer in June 2025. Within the first 30 days of owning the Rdx we noticed the airbag sensor for the front passenger seat would not recognize my 90 lb daughter seating in the seat and the air bag sensor would indicate the seat was empty, which would result in the airbag not deploying if we were in an accident. I took video of this happening and took my Rdx into dealership for repair as we were still within the 30 day period for issues. The Acura dealership insisted they could not replicate the problem so it was fine. I again referred to the video and said we have seen proof of the issue. After much back and forth and the service manager telling me his large dog sometimes doesn't set off the sensor he agreed to call american Honda to send out an engineer to test. The engineer after running tests said seat is calibrated correctly no issue to fix, even if we wanted to pay to fix it ourselves they wouldn't fix the seat sensor because there is no issue to correct. I don't understand how a car that advertises a safety feature for anyone that weighs over 65lbs can expect me to continue to drive this vehicle when it has a proven faulty sensor. Obviously how they test the sensor is faulty as well. This is a huge safety issue for the 2019 Rdx and a disappointing and shocking lack of response from Acura. We are now working to return the car to the dealership and I am sure we will have to fight to not pay extra costs that will occur with them buying it back.

I have been trying to get my vehicle repaired for over a year in response to recall number 24v-064 with no success. The vehicle manufacturer is not providing the required parts to the dealership to address this recall from early 2024. I think additional action needs to be taken against the manufacturer to drive improved behaviour to address safety recall issues in a timely manner.

I was involved in an accident and upon impact the airbags didn’t deploy although there was a chemical smell that occurred and the check airbag light comes on intermittently. Also driver seatbelt locked up and does not retract out.

The contact owns a 2022 Acura Rdx. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 mph, a deer unexpectedly crashed into the middle of the front end of the vehicle. The contact stated that after the impact, the front driver's side knee bolster air bag gradually deployed and exploded, causing a 5-inch opened wound on the contact's right leg. The contact stated that her leg was bleeding significantly. The vehicle called emergency services. The ambulance lifted the contact out of the vehicle and transported the contact to the hospital, where the contact was informed that she had sustained a traumatic wound to the leg. Antibiotics were applied to the wound. The doctor attempted to suture the wound but was unable to. The contact was referred to a hospital wound center, and the contact has been undergoing weekly treatment. A police report was filed. The police towed the vehicle to a tow lot, where it was later picked up by the insurance company. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where an estimate of the damage was being made. The dealer informed the contact that only the knee bolster air bag would be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.

My wife weighs about 125 pounds. When she sits in the front passenger seat of this car, often (but not always) an indicator will light up on the dashboard, saying "passenger air bag off. " even if she shifts around in the seat or bounces up and down, the indicator light will stay on. I have taken the car to my local Acura dealer twice, asking that this problem be diagnosed and fixed. The first time their service technician reported "no issues at this time. Unable to duplicate concern at this time. " the second time (today), the technician reported that he had "checked system for codes, no codes in system. Light will go on and off if passenger moves around in seat. " I remain quite concerned that this un-repaired problem is a significant safety issue, as the indicator light appears to be saying that the airbag won't deploy in a collision.

I had minor accident on [xxx] in my 2018 Acura Rdx. The front crash sensor was damaged, so the car cannot be returned to me without a new one because the air bags and other safety equipment will not deploy in front crash. The repair shop ordered the part (no. 77930-tx4-a11) from Acura on 5/28, along with other parts needed. Acura's delivery date for this part has changed from 6/24, to 7/2, to 7/11, and 7/18. However, my Acura dealer indicates they've had this part on order since April, and Acura has provided no estimated delivery date. I filed a claim directly with Acura a week ago (case no. Xxxx), demanding that they provide me with a comparable vehicle until they can provide this part, and no one has even returned my calls. American Honda is in violation of federal law, which requires companies that sell automobiles in the us to provide parts for them for 10 years from the date of manufacture, and to compensate consumers for failure to do so. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph and attempting to avoid a second vehicle the husband lost control of the steering and crashed into a tree. During the crash the front end of the vehicle was severely damaged but the front driver's side air bag did not deploy. The front passenger side curtain air bag did deploy although no passenger was seated in the vehicle. The vehicle was destroyed and towed away. A police report was taken at the scene. The driver sustained a right hand abrasion that did not required medical treatment. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified. The failure mileage was 91,000.

Rear ended other vehicle going about 40 plus miles per hour, then another vehicle rear ended me. Upon impact ( which I have pictures of) my driver side seatbelt released completely unbuckled & dangling , my dash lit up & said airbags deployed. But no airbags deployed. In turn upon impact my sternum hit my steering wheel. It busted the radiator so now my car will not even turn on. It is at a collision center awaiting adjuster inspection. Since the radiator busted the other vehicle & myself couldn’t tell if it was steam or smoke coming from the engine. So I turned the car off, it has never turned back on since.

Low beams do not work, they are deficient, cannot see in the dark, dangerous.

My 2019 Acura was involved in a front end collision which resulted in the car being deemed a total loss. Not one of the airbags deployed at any point during the collision, despite hitting head on. The collision resulted in me having severe neck and shoulder pain and stiffness as well as my foot and arm. There was no warning indicators on the dash prior to the collision. The car did however contact emergency services and was able to give the coordinates of the crash. I have searched for recalls on the 2019 Acura and none of which identify the airbags being faulty.

Approximately on 2/10/2024 shortly after I added my 2021 Acura to my auto policy my insurance CO. Geico notified me about the open recall. Nobody else has notified me on the open recall. I just purchased the vehicle on 1/6/24 from autonation Acura in torrance California. The recall notice says "there is no remedy availablei" I purchased this beautiful cpo vehicle and I put $20,000 cash ( debit card) as a down payment and I had to pay additional costs for the extended 9 yr. Warranty. I financed the rest. The vehicle price was $31. 000 with 20. 000 miles on it. The total costs $44. 000. I haven't even made my first payment yet which is due February 20, 2024. My interest rate is high 8. 99 is the rate and I have excellent credit. I've only put 20 miles or less on the car since I bought it. My auto insurance company now recommended that I do not drive it. My auto insurance could possibly go up in cost as well. I have not drove the car since I learned of the recall. I want my money back and I want to return the vehicle.

Remedy is available for the recall, but Honda will not fix the recall on my 2 vehicle’s that I own with this open recall. They are saying 2025 maybe. Unacceptable.

Air bag sensors turning on and off. Malfunction.

The "airbag is turned off" warning light for the front passenger seat is lit (on) while an adult is sitting in the front passenger with the seat belt latched. This has happened numerous times since I purchased this vehicle. . I have reported this to the Acura dealer where I purchased the vehicle and they said since they are unable to repeat the issue they can't do anything about it. In addition, when this issue is occurring the warning light on the dash and the audible bell regarding the seat belt being unlatched while the vehicle is in motion does not come on.

This is my second complaint to NHTSA. I purchased my certified pre owned Acura on 01/06/2024 after I added my Acura to my car insurance. They notified me and told me that there is an open recall associated with my VIN number. That recall is for a (seat weight sensor) recall # 24v-064000 recall date 02/01/24 -- remedy not available. I filed a complaint with NHTSA id# 11572570. After I filed my first complaint I found another unrepaired recall for my VIN number recall date 02/12/2021 NHTSA # 21v93900 for the power train drive shaft I'm not sure exactly what happened with this specific recall. I also wanted to add to my complaint that since my vehicle is a certified pre owend. I never received a complete inspection report indicating all the components inspected prior to selling me the vehicle. Now that I'm searching through all my paperwork. I also am hesitant with the interest rate. I put $20000 down on the vehicle. And I have excellent credit and my interest rate is 8. 99% I also had to pay for the warranty.

Upon entering the cross driveway at a mall parking lot, car suddenly veered right, accelerating & unresponsive to stepping on brakes pedal, steering wheel locked, gear buttons did not respond, seat belts tightened, but air bags did not deploy. Speed was slowed when car ran over a large rock and crashed into the wall of small store front. I, the driver, have not been in any accidents, had not taken any medication of any sort.

My wife, 78 years old, is petite. She weighs 75 lbs, height 4'10. " the front passenger seat sensors don't register her as sitting in the seat with the result that the passenger air bag is not engaged (the dashboard light indicates the air bag is off). My vehicle, 2021 Acura Rdx, passenger seat has 2 seat sensors while the mdx model has 4 seat sensors that would register her weight and the air bag system would be engaged. We have not had an accident. The mdx seat is not compatible with the Rdx. Acura says that nothing can be done to rectify the problem. I consider this problem a safety defect.

2022 accura Rdx VIN: 5j8tc2h775nl004893 1. Component failure: passenger side air bag did not employ in side collision (t-boned). 2. Risk: passenger was not protected during impact by air bag. 3. Brought to dealer for inspection and pictures to be sent to Honda hq. 4. Insurance adjuster upon inspection was surprised no air employment occurred. 5. No warning, messages,codes or symptoms prior to issue (mileage less than 150).

(1) passenger airbag periodically turns off when seat is occupied. This surfaces major safety concerns. (2) technology package - apple car play turns black and disconnects often. As someone working from their car, this needs to stay connected in order to avoid safety concerns of needing to look down at my phone.

My 2014 Rdx does not show to have an open recall based on my VIN but I am receiving an airbag warning and the make and model of my vehicle is included in the recall. I called the dealer where I purchased the vehicle and they said they don't have to honor the recall to replace the airbags. When I look up the warning message, my safety could be in jeopardy and this is my only vehicle. Please confirm who to contact or what options I have to pursue this complaint since the dealership confirms they did not perform a replacement of the airbags before I purchased this vehicle and I have never received a notice to replace the airbags in my 2014 Rdx.

I purchased a new 2020 Acura Rdx in January of 2020. Very soon my wife and I noticed that from time to time when she was seated in the front passenger seat, the "air bag off" light would remain illuminated. I would then turn the car off and generally, upon restarting the cat, the light would extinguish as designed, indicating that the airbag was armed and ready to protect my wife in the event of a crash. Sometimes restarting the car would not resolve this issue and repeated restarting would be required. I took my vehicle into the dealership and after inspection I was told that the system was working as designed. I have photos and videos of the issue occurring but the dealership could not duplicate the problem. I have taken the vehicle back at least three times with the same result. I have contacted Acura corporation who basically told me to go back to the dealership. They demonstrate no interest in my issue. I have since found several others with the same issue who have posted their issue on the web. I have also noted that when the light remains on, the vehicle will not warn the passenger that their seatbelt is not fastened.

After restarting the vehicle, the failure would be self-corrected. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who replaced the passenger’s side air bag sensor, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was concerned that in a crash the passenger’s side air bag would not deploy as needed. The failure mileage was 8,000.
