1 Differential Unit problem of the 2000 Acura TL

Failure Date: 09/04/2020

Car has 50k miles. Starting smoking and has burning oil smell. It has been diagnosed as the differential, ultimately the transmission. Cannot find recall as it is more then 15 years. But there was one in 2004. How do I get that recall covered? please help. I love this car.

2 Differential Unit problem of the 1996 Acura TL

Failure Date: 08/02/2014

I was headed up a hill when I pulled over to the side of the road to let an emergency vehicle pass. When I attempted to reenter traffic, there was a loud bang, some grinding noise, and a jolt as the vehicle began to roll backwards. I was startled when I immediately placed the vehicle in park but it continued to roll down hill. Then I engaged the parking brake, (I never use the parking brake due to an unfortunate happening in the past with a different vehicle). I attempted to put the vehicle in drive, thinking the transmission needed only to reset itself when a loud grinding noise began to emanate from the underside of the vehicle, along with smoke coming from my hood. At that point, I left the vehicle there and had it towed to a shop where I was informed that the differential had somehow become disengaged from the transmission.

5 Differential Unit problem of the 1999 Acura TL

Failure Date: 06/13/2005

Transmission surge, increase in speed when stepping on accelerator. Slammed into gear, mostly when the engine was cold, and at a stand still, and then surged into gear. Took vehicle to dealership and it was under recall. The dealer refused to fix it. Consumer will contact the manufacturer. The differential gear wobbled. Which caused the axle seal to break. The transmission fluid leak out from the axle casing. The dealer simply revealed a broken gasket seal, a defective axle and not the real cause of the problem (differential wobbling).
