Last weekend I was driving in the highway all sudden my car lose power and the transmission became not engaged with engine and almost got into a major accident. The car was performed perfectly before that. I kept the car in top condition never had any issues. So the car was towed home and I tried to diagnose the issue and found out that the tramission filter was bad and the loose filter components got stuck in the after filter hose bolt. According to the owners manual transmission filter does not have any maintenance scheduled to change the filter. My car has about 170,000 miles. When the filter gets old and become brittle and breaks apart and block the fluid passage causes my tramission to fail. Please see attached for the pictures with filter material stuck in the filter bolt.

While shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear, the 3rd gear does not fully engage, it pops back into neutral. I then had to shift back to 2nd and back into 3rd gear (which was successful). This happens multiple times a week. This is very dangerous as you are put into neutral in the middle of traffic. Acura has issues a TSB for the previous generation Tl, but not this generation even though many customers have had the same issue. Acura refuses to do anything about it until they can replicate it themselves. This is nearly impossible as it is an intermittent issue that does not happen every single time. There are no issues with any other gears.

Was driving my vehicle which I just purchased on may 26th 2012, and my car began to have shifting problems in 2nd and third gear racing rpms and would not stay engaged in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gear and violently downshifted into second gear at freeway speeds causing me even restrained by the seat beat to fly into the steering wheel and windsheild bumping my head and hurting my back due to whip lash. This occurrence happened several times. Then the d5 would start flashing and check engine light became lite. After calling Acura customer care, brian informed me of the recall that had to do with this matter and was supposedly fixed. My car is unsafe to drive because of the rapid change of speed at the cars desire. I could injure not just myself but others around me.

This is my third transmission on my 2002 Acura 3. 2 Tl-s. Everytime, I had a problem with my transmission, Acura always give me hard time to admit the problem. And now, my transmission starts giving me the same issue as before again. When slowing down the car, from 65 mph to 45 mph or 45 mph to 25 mph, the gear will not engage properly. The car will be in neutral state and wait until the car realize what gear it should be before it put into gear. Scarsdale Acura, valley stream Acura, smithtown Acura, and paragon Acura do not admit the problem and inform me that there is nothing wrong with the transmission, since the check engine light is not lighted and the d5 light is not blinking. Westchester Acura admits the problem and they changed my transmission twice, but their service is horrible, so I do not want to bring my car back to them for my current problem. I have tried calling Acura, and I was told that there is nothing they can do, since they cannot see the actually and they cannot control what the dealer can do. I am at the point that I could get help and do not know what to do; in the mean time, I am at risk of my life by driving the cat with the defective transmission.

Complete transmission failure resulting in disengagement of drive train. Acura help line requested VIN number for car, so I exited vehicle to get the number from the window. Car was in park, however car rolled backwards down hill into path of oncoming vehicle. I was able to run after it and jump in to apply brake just before collision would have occurred. This is similar to the issue under pe02081. Acura is replacing the transmission, and claim that this issue as highlighted in pe02081 has been resolved and that my vehicle is not covered in the extended warranty program. My concern is that Acura know about this potential problem, they have not contacted any owner to alert them of a problem, there is no indication such as engine warning light on the vehicle to indicate transmission overheating they are waiting to get some one killed. . . Thank heavens it wasn't me.

The contact owns a 2005 Acura Tl. While driving 40 mph and shifting into third gear, the vehicle popped out of gear and approximately 15% of the time it would not shift at all. The dealer changed the transmission fluid which remedied the issue for a month. He was also told that there was no service bulletin related to the issue. The manufacturer also refused to assist him. The current mileage was approximately 27,000 and the failure mileage was approximately 3,000. Updated 07/15/08
the gear box did not engage properly into 3rd gear. The consumer believed there was a defect with the synchro which was a defect in the transmission. Updated 07/15/08.

Transmission disengages when accelerating. Also, transmission falls out of gear causing unexpected loss of power. Dealership adjusted base idle of the engine the first time I took it in for this problem. Transmission total failure at 24000 miles. Replaced transmission and had the same problem three weeks later. Power loss when turning left in the middle of the intersection, barely avoided collision. I do not take my children in this car for fear of power failure.
The transmission had been exhibing some shifting problems a few days leading up to the failure. When it failed, it would not shift up to 3rd gear. I tried to turn the car around to head to the dealer and was momentarily unable to shift into drive or reverse because it would not engage. After about 5 tries I was able to shift into reverse and then back into drive and limped the car to the nearest parking lot where I waited for a tow truck. Had this happened on a highway it might have been much more serious. I have heard of people with a cl or Tl (same transmission) that have had their transmission fail when doing 60+ mph and it shifts down into 2nd without warning. Very dangerous!.
Every now and then gear does not engage, sometimes on the highway vehicle loses power. Problem intermittent. Consumer feels this is very dangerous. Dealer has been contacted.
