1 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2006 Audi A4

Failure Date: 01/19/2014

I experienced unintended acceleration of my car when I started accelerating after the light turned green. I had no indication as to what was causing the car to accelerate. After putting the car in neutral, slamming on the breaks and using the emergency break the car finally stopped after going about a quarter of a mile. Once I got the car to stop, I kept the car turned on and called 911 who dispatched the fire department. I got out of my car because I was scared and didn't know what else to do. . I didn't know if it was ok to turn the car off. Because the accelerator was floored by the car mat the car automatically locked. The fireman had to break the window to get into the car and the fireman found the car mat lodged under the accelerator and had to rip it out from under the pedal. I had never had any indication prior to this incident that my car mat could move and get lodged. Per the fireman, this happens a lot with these types of car mats. I didn't get further explanation from him, but after talking to many people and scouring the internet I found that numerous other people have had the accelerator get stuck because of the car mat in their Audi's. In some cases it was the Audi dealership telling them the cause was the car mat. Audi refuses to recognize any flaw with the design and refused to reimburse me for my expenses associated with the incident. Luckily this occurred on a Sunday around 11:30am so there were very few cars on the road. Toyota recalled their cars with mats that slipped, why should Audi not have to fix this problem?.

2 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2010 Audi A4

Failure Date: 02/05/2013

During an attempt to accelerate the gas pedal was pushed to the floor (Audi A4 '10) and remained stuck to the floor even after the foot was removed. The car has a manual transmission and was shifted into neutral at this time. The tachometer indicated the engine was redlining in neutral while the foot was still off the accelerator pedal. This engine speed lasted for approximately 5 seconds then the accelerator appeared to become unstuck and car operation returned to normal. An aftermarket floor mat was in place at the time of the incident. However, the mat was "zip tied" back to the driver's seat mount so it would not shift forward and possibly interfere in clutch, brake or accelerator operation. After this incident, the same day, the driver checked to make sure the floor mat was properly placed and still zip tied and it was. The floor mat was zip tied to begin with because there was one other episode of unintended acceleration approximately 1 year ago that the driver though may have been due to slippage of the floor mat. Obviously this initial event a year ago could have been due to causes other than the floor mat.

3 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2010 Audi A4

Failure Date: 11/15/2012

Problem one the car was burning through a quart of expensive oil every 300 miles. Took it in,dropped the engine, changed all pistons, removed crankshaft oil seal, faulty high mount brake light, pressure regulating valve all replaced. Car was accelerating with and without hesitation, but dealer duplicated the occurance and said they fixed. One month later, car smelled like gas and was taking off on it's own brought back dealer could not duplicate. Very bad smell of gas and rapid acceleration -dealer removed engine again replaced all valves, diagnosis purge valve stuck. Suspected injector seal. Replaced 4 injector seals, smell persisted. Replaced intake valve, remove and replace purge valve assembly. Pistons have all been replaced, engine has been completely removed twice, and the transmission is still jumping and the car accelerates by itself. Audi refuses to recignize the problem , I have only 1200 miles left on warranty. I have only had this car 7 months and am afraid to drive but Audi offers no options-I asked for extended warranty on the engine and they said no. I have the car in my posession with the acceleration issue and periodically smells of gas. I drive 3 children to and from .

4 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2006 Audi A4

Failure Date: 10/17/2012

On two separate occasions while driving home from work on October 17, 2012, the 2006 Audi A4 that I was driving went into uncontrolled acceleration. The first instance occurred about 5:30 pm while I was accelerating from a dead stop, after a stop light turned green, to a speed of 55 mph (which was the maximum speed allowed). As I lifted my foot off of the accelerator as the vehicle approached the 55 mph speed limit, the vehicle continued to accelerate - even though I had retracted my foot from the accelerator pedal. To get the vehicle under control I quickly and firmly tapped the brake. The vehicle then slowed down. About 15 minutes later, I was required to come to a complete stop as cars in front of me made a right hand turn. After the (3) vehicles made their turn, I then quickly accelerated the car up to the 45 mph speed limit. As my car reached the 45 mph limit I lifted my foot off of the accelerator pedal. But. The engine continued to accelerate. I then changed the gear shift from "drive" to "neutral". The engine continued to increase in speed (the engine was "screaming" at maximum rpm) but I was able to slow the car down with the brake pedal. The engine continued to "scream" at maximum rpm's until I turned the key to the vehicle to the "off" position. Based on the above, my wife will not longer drive our Audi A4.

5 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2005 Audi A4

Failure Date: 07/25/2011

Unintended acceleration: vehicle continued to accelerate after entering highway. Driver put the car in neutral (manual transmission). Tachometer continued to increase until it red-lined. Driver pulled off the highway and turned the engine off. The throttle released with a popping noise. Driver observed the throttle and the mat did not appear to be pushing on the throttle but the mat was not secured in place. Took the car to the dealer (where it was bought and serviced regularly). They ran diagnostic scan, no faults in system. Owners wrote and called Audi customer care and were informed car is working as designed. Weather was hot and dry (July).

6 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2002 Audi A4

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

The contact owns a 2002 Audi A4. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated which caused the vehicle to go through an intersection. The contact engaged the brakes to stop and shut the vehicle off. The contact restarted the vehicle and the rpms increased rapidly so the contact had the vehicle towed to an authorized dealer. This failure was the second occurrence. The dealer performed a diagnostic test but could not find the cause for the failure. The dealer suggested that the floor mat had become caught on the accelerator pedal but the contact stated that it had not happened. The failure mileage was 56,600. Updated 01/18/11 updated 01/31/11.

7 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2003 Audi A4

Failure Date: 11/25/2010

While driving from GA to nc the car accelerated suddenly from a traffic light. I could feel the accelerator move away from my foot and I had pressed the clutch and break to avoid an accident. I noticed the tachometer was above 5000 rpm and I turn off the car and coasted into a gas station. I checked the floormats and the accelerator and everything seemed fine. I restarted the car and cautiously continued my trip. Everything seemed okay until I was close to my destination. Then I experienced the same uncontrolled acceleration. Again, the only way to stop the car was to turn off the engine. I took the car to an Audi dealer in nc and they told me there were no faults and therefore no problem. They suspected the floormats.

8 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2005 Audi A4

Failure Date: 10/07/2010

2005. 5 (midyear) Audi A4 2. 0t while driving on the highway, the car began to accelerate out of control for approximately 15-25 seconds despite the fact that the accelerator was not being depressed. This occurred even though no pressure was being applied to the gas pedal. The car quickly picked up speed, reaching speeds of 90+ mph on a crowded urban highway during rush hour. A collision was barely avoided. There was no mechanical obstruction to the gas pedal (I. E there was no mat or debris in the way). Furthermore, there was limited brake function at this time. After 15-25 seconds the car stopped accelerating on its own. The issues: 1. Uncontrolled acceleration to redline with no control over the accelerator 2. Braking function failed to override the accelerator function (as explained by my dealer. If you brake while accelerations, the brakes win, which did not occur in this case. ) I had the vehicle inspected by mu Audi service department who said that nothing was wrong with the car.

9 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2003 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/16/2010

Sudden acceleration. I was coming back from the store, and twice I stepped on the gas and the pedal went to the floor on its own! I hit the brake and kept the car from running away while I pulled the pedal up with my other foot. When I got back home, I put it in neutral, gave it a little gas, and it went into full acceleration. I could feel the gas pedal pull away from my foot and go to the floor. I had to turn the key off to stop it. It was not "floor mats" or driver error. The next day, the problem was gone. I drove to the Audi dealer. They replaced the gas pedal assembly and the problem appears to be fixed.

10 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2003 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/03/2010

Sudden, unintended acceleration of 2003 Audi A4 while in 4th gear. Rpms spiked and remained at 7 after foot was removed from accelerator. Experienced loss of control of steering. Was eventually able to slow and stop car via brakes. After completely shutting car off and removing key, car was restarted and engine revved up to 7 rpms with zero acceleration. Occurred on queensborough bridge - police were called to assist.

11 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 1999 Audi A4

Failure Date: 01/19/2007

My husband and I own a 1999 Audi A4. On 01/19/07 I was driving down the I-15 freeway at 75 mph when suddenly my car began to accelerate without me pushing the gas pedal. I braked, and the car slowed a little, but I still felt tension, like it was trying to push forward. When I took my foot off the brake, the car continued to accelerate even though my feet were not touching any of the pedals. I tried putting my foot under the gas pedal and pulling it up in case it had frozen in a depressed position, but it was not frozen. The pedal freely moved up and down. When I put the car in neutral, the engine raced to 7500 rpm without my foot on the gas pedal (my feet were completely off all pedals). I quickly turned the ignition off drifted to the shoulder of the road. I took the car in to be looked at a shop that specializes in Audi/vw cars. They told me that they haven't been able to replicate the problem, but they are aware that there are a history of complaints with Audi cars for unintended acceleration. They believe the problem is in the throttle body, which can freeze in cold temperatures. According the mechanic, most reported cases involve cold temperatures and driving long distances. I was driving for about 40 minutes and the temperature was about 5 degrees fahrenheit. He stated that there was an earlier recall on the a6 model that had the same throttle body as ours, but when we called the dealer they told us that ours had no recall. They will take a look at it this week. I am very concerned about the safety of our vehicle. I have come across an entry on a discussion board where someone reported the exact same incident while driving a 2007 A4. Luckily I was in a rural area when the car accelerated and was able to pull off to the shoulder without any accidents or injuries. I am afraid this could happen again and cause a more serious, maybe fatal accident. Note: purchase date was estimated. Exact information is in the car at the shop.

While traveling 15-20 mph vehicle suddenly accelerated. Consumer lost control of vehicle, and hit a small tree to bring vehicle to a stop. Vehicle was looked at by dealer/mechanic, but they were not able to duplicate the problem, and determined there was nothing wrong with it. Consumer was afraid that this vehicle might do the same thing again, and did not want to drive this vehicle.

13 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 1999 Audi A4

Failure Date: 05/08/2003

The vehicle experienced sudden acceleration when the gear was shifted from park to drive.

14 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2002 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/21/2003

Multiple cases of uncontrolled acceleration in 2002 Audi A4. 2 cases last year I had to put the car in neutral and turn off the ignition. All the others have been momentary lasting less than a second. All cases were after I accelerated, the pedal would not come back. The car has been in numerous times for this problem to the dealer who can never find anything wrong. They have documented the problem though. My last time in I discussed the possibility of using the lemon law. I finally had an accident last Friday evening pulling off from a light when the people in front of me suddenly braked and my car kept going.

15 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 1999 Audi A4

Failure Date: 12/18/1998

While backing into a driveway the vehicle suddenly accelerated while brakes were continuously being applied but did not respond, resulting in vehicle hitting a truck. Cause unknown.

16 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 1999 Audi A4

Failure Date: 12/18/1998

I was backing up in driveway in front of another vehicle which was parked in front of a house. My car gave a slight lurch and the motor revved up. I immediately looked because I thought I must have my foot on the accelerator. My foot was on the brake. However, the car suddenly accelerated backward into the truck, driving it 15 feet into the porch steps. The pickup truck was totalled and the steps completely demolished. We immediately contacted tischer, our insurance company and attempted to contact someone at Audi. It was a full 2 weeks before someone from Audi called us back. Finally, an Audi rep met us to inspect the car. Audi determined that it was "operator error" and absolutely refused to do anything. We're having our insurance company repair the Audi, and we will then trade it in on our second choice car--a BMW. I simply could not drive the Audi again, and thank god that no one was injured. I believe that Audi's are very dangerous and should be taken off the road until this "sudden acceleration" problem has been solved. If it were "operator error" as they claim--why does only happen in Audi's??? please do everything you can to have this problem corrected before more people are maimed, injured and killed.
