I leased a 2023 Audi A4 with 0 miles. At ~10,000 miles my car automatically shut down electronically I have photo evidence of this. This happened again recently at ~45,000 miles, I almost got into a severe car accident and possibly died. This happened on the highway driving in the left lane. I tried to remedy this situation before and was ignored by aud's service center. I am scared I can die on the road and am taking in the car for repeat service tomorrow.

I have been an Audi A4 owner for more than 10 years. During that time, I have had 2 incidents where I could have easily been killed as well as injured or killed passengers in oncoming vehicles. The latest was this morning on March 23, 2022. The other was nearly 10 years ago. My personal investigation has led me to a conclusion that I have not yet seen anywhere else. In both cases, I am trying to get into a heavy flow of traffic. I know that I will have to "gun it" to get up to speed. For that reason, I have one foot on the accelerator and one on the brake. When traffic opens to where I think it is safe to proceed, I press the accelerator while my foot is still on the brake. In the situation this morning, I intended to execute a sharp right turn into the closest lane of a road with 2-lanes going in that direction. I pressed the accelerator hard while turning the steering wheel. Instead of turning right, the car shot across both lanes of traffic, wiped out a traffic sign and entered the lanes of oncoming traffic. I had zero control. It was only dumb luck that I avoided traffic in both directions (both of which were travelling at roughly 60 mph). Even though I knew about this risk from my earlier incident, I didn't think about it at the time. I realize that my actions send conflicting signals to the car (go/don't go), but the last thing the car should do is propel itself forward with no control on the part of the driver. I don't know if this is limited to Audi or the A4, but I wanted to make my experience public to possibly avoid a serious or fatal accident by someone else. It is very avoidable with proper knowledge and attention. I'd be interested in knowing if you have been notified of any other incidents of this type.

My vehicle will disengage forward or drive at times (transmission) unknowingly and as you apply the gas it sometimes will engage and go forward or reverse in a high speed. Stopped at a light or stop sign becomes dangerous as you are not in control of your speed. Or you may be moved into traffic and lose forward or reverse power.

The contact leased a 2021 Audi A4. The contact stated that the dealer had provided her with the vehicle rental while her vehicle was being repaired. The contact stated that while driving at 4 mph and turning into a parking pace on the 4th floor of a parking garage, the vehicle inadvertently accelerated on its own at 100 mph. The contact depressed the brake pedal several times but it failed to respond. The vehicle crashed into the fence of steel and broke a portion of the wall. The air bags deployed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact sustained two concussions and a heart attack. The contact sought medical assistance the next day and had been seeking medical assistance. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and it was totaled. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1,347.

On January 28, 2019 I was driving to my medical appointment at 35 miles per hour when my car froze up then bucked and now no longer the transmission will no longer engage. Upon research Audi has known of this transmission having serious faults and that it will break down without warning. Audi has refused to do any recall on these transmissions, even after a class action that was settled, Audi will not do any recall.

Driving home from work, all of a sudden my vehicle was revving while it was idle and at low speed, making it very difficult and dangerous to steer the car and keep it under control. Upon inspection, it was found that the timing chain tensioner had failed and had caused serious engine damage, causing the pistons to fire prematurely. Previously the tensioner was replaced in 2014 by Audi when the car had ~50k miles and was reported as a "weak tensioner". My car currently has 92k miles. I believe that no replacement tensioner should only last 40k miles and cause catastrophic engine failure and put consumers at risk of not being able to control their cars.

03 Audi A4 6 speed auto cvt transmission, this vehicle has known issues with shifting from 1st to 2nd gear too soon. While driving this vehicle from a complete stop on an on ramp on rt 80 I hit the gas and it would shift from first to second and back to first then lurch forward while rolling. While this is going on I am trying to merge on the highway which put my car into the right lane doing about 2 mph with traffic (which would be a safe distance if this issue didn't happen) having to come to an abrupt stop not to hit my car. This is an known issue with these transmissions and there is no recall on them since new. I have experienced this issue numerous time as many others with this vehicle does. There are numerous forums with consumers complaining of the same issue. This needs to be addressed before someone gets hurt.
As I was driving the gas pedal went to the floor full throttle. I almost had an accident. I final got the car over to the road at a stop by putting the car in neutral. The engine revved up as high as it could go. So I cut the car off then cut it back on and it continued to have the same problem. It took 3 times of cutting the car off and waiting a few minutes before the car returned to normal.
Was driving on freeway for a few hours during which car was running fine, and car suddenly lost power just after I got off freeway and approached a mountain road incline. There was no warning light, or prior symptoms to engine failure, it just stopped. With help, I was able to get car out of the middle of the road and to safety. Tried to troubleshoot, used engine error code reader, and no fault codes found. Performed basics checked for potential fuel vapor lock due to altitude; checked oil, coolant and fuel levels- and all levels were ok. Battery was functioning - as radio, lights worked. Car has been consistently serviced and maintenance was current. Car was towed to nearest dealer, diagnosis by dealer fuel pump failure due to clogged fuel filter. My issue is that Audi does not indicate service maintenance for fuel filter. There is not any maintenance recommendations or guidance in either the owner's manual or published list of recommended services to replace or check filer. There also were not any warning lights, fault codes or indications to watch for. I feel that it is negligent of the manufacturer to not indicate any service interval to change fuel filter in order to prevent fuel pump failure, and to ensure the safe operating conditions of the vehicle. The car lost power on a winding mountain road and put me at danger without warning. I am curious if this fuel pump incident could be associated with known fuel pump issues, NHTSA #pe08027. Key side notes, while I am the second registered owner, this car was purchased by my father who was the original owner, but for insurance and registration purposes the vehicle was transferred over to me, but I have all original records of the vehicle and can verify all maintenance services have been performed.

In October 2006, purchased a new 2006 Audi A4 from carousel Audi in golden valley, mn. The car was well maintained and has less than 62,000 miles today. In late summer of 2013, I began noticing that the car jerked heavily when putting it into reverse from a parked position. The car has an automatic transmission and I then began noticing the car not accelerating properly and laboring when nearing 50 mph on the highway. The motor would rev up and make an unusual sound and it was too dangerous to drive on the highway. I brought the car to the Audi dealer and they advised me that the transmission and computer module were not communicating properly and that it needs a new module at a cost of about $3800. They refused to pay for any of the repairs. When I asked both them and Audi north America about a class action lawsuit regarding similar problems with 61,000 other Audi owners across the u. S. , they refused to discuss the matter. I believe that Audi has knowingly made and sold a defective vehicle that is dangerous and poses great risk to its owner and other drivers on the road. I believe that Audi should be forced to stand behind their product and recall vehicles with this well documented defect and pay for my repair as well as for other owners who have similar problems.

Was changing lanes and when trying to accelerate the car would barely move then in an instant went extremely fast. I hit the brakes but the car was rev'd so high and going so fast that I just skidded into traffic. Before the incident we noticed it would do it but the lag wasn't so bad. . . Wasn't until we drove it on the freeway in stop and go traffic that it really became a problem. Very scary to have a car full of kids and not be able to control the acceleration.

The contact owns a 2003 Audi A4. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently. The contact engaged the vehicle into neutral to stop the vehicle however, the engine rpms continued to race as the engine roared loudly. The contact exited the vehicle and later returned to restart the engine but the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the floor mat had become lodged under the accelerator pedal, causing the failure. After leaving the dealer the failure recurred. The vehicle was returned to the dealer and the contact was awaiting diagnosis of the failure. The VIN was unavailable. The failure and current mileage was 60,000.
After reaching an appropriate speed on a highway, I eased off the gas pedal but the car continued to accelerate. I removed my foot from the gas pedal entirely but the pedal stayed down. I shifted the car into neutral, turned on my hazards and pulled over to the breakdown lane. I got out of my car and checked the still depressed pedal to see if anything was obstructing it and there was nothing. I pulled the pedal up and the engine stopped revving.
There are two issues which occur without warning, usually when the car is cold or while driving on the freeway. The first issue occurs when traveling in a straight line and is a "slip" in the steering wheel when crossing the 12 o'clock position where it feels like it's holding fine and then suddenly "slips" and then grabs again when you turn the wheel off center. This happens with no change in road conditions, acceleration, or vehicle speed. When this occurs it is unsettling and has caused drivers to inadvertently drift into the adjacent lane. The second issue is a "notchy" feel which happens at any speed, any steering mode and any wheel position. Like the first steering issue, this also feels unsafe as the driver often over or under corrects steering input. I have taken the vehicle to Audi dealers numerous times, they even changed the power steering system in Jan 2013 however the problem returned after approximately 45 days. I took the car back to the Audi dealership in June at which point they acknowledged that Audi is aware of the problem and they are working on a fix, however neither the dealer nor Audi has called with a real fix for this issue yet.

The contact owns a 2007 Audi A4. The contact was driving 70 mph when the accelerator pedal was released and the vehicle accelerated without warning. The contact also stated that every warning light illuminated intermittently during the failure. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired and the VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 72,000 and the current mileage was 81,000.
The vehicle according to the Audi dealer has a bad automatic tcm transmission control module that causes the car to slip gears or not shift down when coming slowing down and then needing to accelerate. The vehicle will stay locked in 3rd gear and when pulling out on to the freeway or a busy street it makes it difficult to get up to speed. When parked on a slanted driveway or street the vehicle may not engage a gear once it has been selected and the car will roll down hill.
Driving on highway at 60mph, removed foot from gas pedal, but gas pedal did not come up and car did not slow down. Pressed on brakes, but was not able to stop car with just brakes. Had to use handbrake as well to stop car. Took to dealer and waiting on diagnosis.
I have two Audi A4's, one a 2007 sedan and one a 2008 station wagon. Both exhibit the problem. Both have done it a number of times, mostly the sedan. When you need to scoot across opposing traffic making a left, sporadically, the car initially responds like you'd expect to the gas pedal, but half a second later bogs out with basically no acceleration, so you're rolling leisurely across oncoming traffic, and then about a second later it wakes up and resumes accelerating. I'm serious. Both cars do it, largely turning left. I've told the dealership about it several times and they always say they checked the computer and couldn't find anything wrong. The Audis are the only cars I've had with this problem.
The contact owns a 2006 Audi A4. The contact stated that while lightly placing his foot on the accelerator pedal to proceed from a traffic light, the vehicle abnormally accelerated without driver intent. He placed the gear selector into neutral and the vehicle came to a stop, barely avoiding a crash with a vehicle ahead of him. The vehicle was in possession of the dealer for one week; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 20,015.
The contact owns 2003 Audi A4. While approaching a traffic light at 20 mph the vehicle accelerated without intention. As a consequence she rear-ended another vehicle. The front-end of the vehicle was damaged. The vehicle was in the process of being towed to an authorized dealer. The failure and current mileages were 49,000.
The accelerator pedal of my 2007 Audi A4 convertible has stuck twice. Both times, I stepped on the brake and it released immediately, so I never reported it or asked the dealer to look at it. No resulting injuries, but obviously a concern -- perhaps Toyota isn't the only make with this problem.
: the contact stated while driving 35 mph uphill on a street, upon making a right turn, the vehicle accelerated to 40 mph without warning. The contact applied brake pressure which stopped the acceleration. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who was unable to duplicate the problem. The manufacturer was alerted.
No failure, accidents or injuries. The problem is a lag in acceleration at throttle tip in. The lag can cause dangerous situations when pulling in front of traffic and the car fails to accelerate in a timely manner. It has caused us to become hesitant when driving the vehicle and we lack confidence when pulling into an intersection from a stop. It is considered normal operation by the manufacturer. We have taken it to two different dealers who both agreed there was a lag and both told us there is no resolution to the problem. We feel the lag is bad enough to constitute a safety issue.
Vehicle is experiencing a major engine problem. While driving on the expressway, the engine began to accelerate. The throttle body froze causing the vehicle to continue to accelerate at 85 mph. Owner took the vehicle back to the dealer. However, the problem was unable to reproduce itself. Provide further details.

This incident happened in indianapolis indiana around 11:40am the temperature outside was two degrees fahrenheit. I was driving my 98 Audi A4 2. 8 quattro north on a two lane city street with a speed limit of 35mph. I had been driving for twenty minutes and smelled a very powerful gas smell since I started driving. My foot was on the gas and all of the sudden the acceleration of my car increased to 45mph. I tried breaking to slow the car down and the break pedal resisted my effort. I was able to slow to 40mph but no lower. When I took my foot off the break the car accelerated greatly. Despite breaking, the speed kept increasing. I felt I had no control over my car. I was traveling for over a mile at speeds reaching 60mph on a 35mph speed limit. I approached a red light, luckily it turned green the minute I went under it. Had it not, I would have run the red light at a busy intersection. My car reached speeds too dangerous for the road I was on. I moved into the center lane into oncoming traffic, fearing I would hit the traffic in front of me. While driving over a mile unable to control my speed I was looking for somewhere to pull off and get out of traffic. When I did pull into the center lane I was able to turn into a parking lot at 50mph. I pushed the breaks with all my might; it did not stop the car, so I put it in park and turned the ignition off. Had I not found that parking lot, I would've run into a snow embankment or hit a building. There was no chance my car was stopping and I had no control of the speed or breaking. I am very lucky that parking lot was empty. I realize that my speeds were very dangerous on this road. Speeds of this nature could've resulted in damaged property and injuries or death to myself and/or others. This was a very frightening and upsetting experience that could've resulted in major damages, injuries, or even death. My safety was compromised.

Vehicle lurched or accelerated upon final parking near a stop with foot off accelerator pedal and on brake pedal. Car accelerated for more than half a mile at 80 mph. Consumer was able to control vehicle and put it in neutral. Dealer indicated vehicle operated as designed by the manufacturer, there was nothing wrong with vehicle.
My Audi A4 avant 2. 8 quattro 1998 accelerates on its own in cold temperatures ( below 15 degrees f ) and two dealerships failed to find the problem so far. It happens when the engine has warmed up partially, but has not reached it's operating temperature yet.
In extreme cold weather throttle may unexpectedly fail to return to idle when the accelerator pedal is released, making it very difficult to stop the car.
Unexplained accelleration for 1/2 mile serious safety while no one was injured or physically harmed, they could have been seriously injured. In fact my wife who was driving the car was able to avoid a loaded school bus before she was able to find a spot to pull off the road and disable the vehicle. Car was towed to Audi dealer. Dealer unable to determine what caused accelleration. Actually the representative implied that it was impossible for this to happen without a computer code. This is a brand new vehicle approximately 1 week old. Primary driver is joan ashman who is afraid to drive this vehicle again. Since service has not found anything there is nothing else they can do. Deal management has not addressed the issue with us. I have called an left a message for general manager to call. I have contacted Audi custer relations and filled a report. They have indicated that it may take some time to investiget to resolve our saftey concern with this particular vehicle.
