1 Speed Control Cable problem of the 1998 Audi A4

Failure Date: 01/03/2010

1998 Audi A4 2. 8 - driving along highway, in 7 degree temp, car started accelerating ( feels like it is driving itself) even after foot was removed from pedal and full force had to be applied to brake to stop the car at which point it went into high rev and engine was immediately turned off. Mechanic could find nothing wrong. This car also had 2 similar incident (once when new) and once a number of years ago. After much back and forth with Audi, they took the car in, and said they could find nothing wrong. As a precaution I had the cruise control disconnected and the throttle body cable replaced so felt the car was safe. (all at my expense).

2 Speed Control Cable problem of the 1999 Audi A4

Failure Date: 01/17/2007

January 17, 2007, 8 degrees - dry road conditions I accelerated up a steep hill on my way to work when at the top of the hill I took my foot off the accelerator and the vehicle's rpms raced to 7,000. I popped the car into neutral and punched the gas pedal and the car reduced speed and rpms this is very dangerous. This is my second complaint - it happened last winter with wet road conditions but very very cold. I took the car to the dealer last year and they claim there is nothing wrong. I had the accelerator cable replaced. There is a recall on the Audi a-6 and the dealer claims my car does not qualify. On certain passenger vehicles equipped with 2. 8l, v6 5-valve engines, and automatic transmissions, while driving during extremely low ambient temperatures the throttle may freeze in an open position due to ice accumulating in the throttle body. If this occurs, the vehicle may fail to reduce speed when the driver lifts his/her foot from the gas pedal. This loss of vehicle control could result in a crash without warning. Something must be done to make Audi realize this is very dangerous and applies to the a-4 not just the a-6.

3 Speed Control Cable problem of the 1996 Audi A4

Failure Date: 01/12/2004

At 10 degree below zero throttle cable stuck, and vehicle suddenly accelerated. Consumer had to pull out of the road, and turned the ignition switch off. Dealer notified. Independent mechanic indicated that throttle body was the problem.

4 Speed Control Cable problem of the 1997 Audi A4

Failure Date: 01/10/2004

Apparently related to case: ea04017 I was driving a 1997 Audi A4 2. 8l v6 quattro at the time of the incident: I was driving 55-mph on the taconic state parkway in new york, around noon (ambient temperature ~30f above zero). I had been driving for over an hour when I noticed that the car was accelerating to nearly 70-mph down hills but my foot was not on the accelerator. My cruise control was on at the time and set to 55-mph, so I turned it off but the problem kept occurring. I tried braking as I went down hills and that slowed me down enough to keep the car under 55-mph. I found a rest area, slowed the car down with my brakes and came to a safe stop (fortunately there was no one in the rest area). When I came to a stop, the engine rpms were at about 3500 but it usually idles at 1000. I shifted into park and the rpms shot up to 7000 before I turned the key off and the engine shut off. I tried pumping the accelerator pedal with the car off and tried turning the car back on, but the rpms shot up again quickly so, again, I turned of the ignition (I tried this 3 times before getting out of the car). Then I got out of the car, waited about 15 minutes, got back in the car and tried starting it again. It started up fine and idled at the normal 1000 level. I drove another 30 minutes to my destination without the cruise control on. The failure did not occur again, and has not happened since (I have not used the cruise control since, either). I had a mechanic check for failure codes with an obdii scan tool, but no error codes came up. He also could not see any problems with the throttle cable, so I have been driving it cautiously ever since. Thanks for your help! let's get to the bottom of this problem.

5 Speed Control Cable problem of the 1999 Audi A4

Failure Date: 09/11/2001

When accelerator rod breaks,, rather than slowing down--it throws the car into full throttle.
